[ about sturgis ] Â - Â [ open connections (coming soon) ]Â
-(Manny Montana, Cis Male, 40) did you see that person over there? that’s STURGIS PODMORE. they’re a HALFBLOOD and work as an UNSPEAKABLE at THE DEPARTMENT OF MYSTERIES. honestly, they’re WARY. i can tolerate them though as they can also be PRACTICAL. they remind me of drinking alone at 2am at a hidden away dive bar & a hidden charming smile you hide when you’re trying to act tough. anyway, i heard they’re POLITICALLY APATHETIC. watch your back around them.
What is your character’s involvement with their faction?
Sturgis is for all intents and purposes Politically Apathetic. Meaning he does not ascribe to one faction or another, he has ideals and thoughts and opinions that fit and do not fit with different factions. He likes to remain a free agent in a way. If someone within a certain faction comes to him for help, and it is something he believes in and agrees with he will likely help them. Primis maybe not so much, he wants to believe that they aren’t just disguised Death Eaters but he’s got scars from two wars under his skin that he can’t let go of so easily. But the other factions, if it’s something he agrees with he will do what he can to help, dole out advice, or what have you. Recently he’s been working a lot with TPF, but that is more because he likes Robards and thinks he’s well intentioned and has good ideas, rather than because he’s deciding to align with them. He understands where Charity Burbage was coming from in insisting that the Ministry to a feather from Muggle’s hats and instated the party system. But it won’t bring anything better, no peace, or happiness. But it is what it is now, and … he’ll do what he thinks is best, and help the people he thinks have good intentions.
Does your character like where they are now?
He’s been worse off. Being an Unspeakable leads  you to a rather secluded lifestyle, it’s hard to make connections with others because of it. But he won’t complain. He has no necessary goals to be somewhere else, he has no necessary interests in becoming more powerful, or being the head of a department. Is he happy? … He probably would not say that was the case, no. Honestly. He’s glad that there is no fighting going on, but the fighting seems to have become more subtle and under the surface.  Sturgis figures this is what you call peace, but it doesn’t feel like it. Or maybe he just suffers from PTSD from two wars and can’t let the fighting go. Either way, it could be worse.

When: 1am Sometime in September
Where: A Muggle Pub outside of the Ministry of Magic
Who: Open!
The hour was late, to say the least, but Sturgis always got off work late. Late enough that he should want to go home and sleep but instead he walked from the Ministry sliding through the front doors of an out of the way muggle pub on the streets of London not too far away. One of those shitty little places that seemed to be always empty no matter where it was located. Probably because the drinks were terrible but it got you to the same place.
Drunk. That was really all Sturgis needed.
Besides, over the past year or so of finding this place he'd built up a rapport with the man behind the bar. He gave Sturgis as many drinks as he needed and they didn't speak anymore. It was a great relationship.
At least it was a good place to wind down and sit quietly with his thoughts without the welcoming chatter, and friendly faces you'd be more likely to find at the Three Broomsticks, or some place of that sort. But the place sat close enough to the Ministry that he knew it wasn't a completely unknown. So, when the door opened and he glanced over spotting someone who was definitely not a Muggle, he couldn't be too surprised.
He gave a bit of a nod of acknowledgement, because he wasn't completely unsocial, but turned forward taking a decisive and pointed drink from the whisky in front of him. Leaving it to the other person whether they wished to approach. Or, perhaps they wanted a night alone as well. Wishful thinking.
