Note about 물고기 vs. 생선
nikkis-room said:
Hey, loving your Korean content! Just make sure with 물고기 that you know that’s often describing fish you would eat. If you’re talking about just the animal, 생선 can be used as well. 물고기 is literally ‘water meat’ + I just double checked this and the usage is actually often the reverse, making the phrase ‘water meat’ even more comical --- Hi, yes! 물고기 is quite literally “water meat” and makes it easy to remember which one is used for in the water vs. for eating! 물고기 refers to fish in the water / the animal and 생선 refers to fish that has been caught for food. So for example you would see fish market as “생선 시장“ instead of “물고기 시장” (which would be weird). When you talk about catching a fish though, you would use 물고기 (ex. ”물고기를 잡다“) 물 - water 고기 - meat 물고기 - fish (the animal) 생선 - fish (for eating) 시장 - market 잡다 - to catch ; to hold, grab Thanks for the post reply @nikkis-room ! I’m a bit farther ahead in Korean than basic words so sometimes it’s easy to forget to mention things that some people wouldn’t have learned yet! I appreciate you bringing it up! And I’m glad you’re enjoying the content 😊

If you’re signed in on Memrise this will take you to the flashcard version where you can just flip through and review & this will take you to where you can start the study lesson where you can practice typing out answers, etc. I made sure to include sound, as I always try to with the lessons I create on there, so you can hear the pronunciation for each one easily! 자전거 bike, bicycle 개 dog 기차 train 아내 wife 컵 cup 설탕 sugar 아침 morning ; breakfast 입 mouth 식당 restaurant 방 room ; bang (sound effect) 말 word, language, speech, talk ; horse 고양이 cat 날개 wing(s) 배 stomach ; pear ; boat 시간 time, hour 눈 eyes ; snow 세계 the world 퍼센트 percent 책 book, volume 달 month ; the moon I think later on I’ll go back through the beginner lessons to include basic sentences that use these words but for now I’ll just be adding the vocab.
