about me

my name is leah, I’m 18 and currently a sophomore in college. I study sociology with a minor in legal studies (although I’m considering switching to graphic design) and after I graduate, I plan on going to law school!

I go to school in texas, although I’m originally from california. so if anyone else is an out of state student or will be, let’s connect! it’s rarely talked about how difficult it is!

I’m also really into astrology! my big three (sun, moon, and rising signs) are taurus, cancer, and cancer. I definitely want to make a post on astrology and creating/interpreting your birth chart so *fingers crossed*

about my school

my school is an hbcu: a historically black college or university. it was originally a plantation and is one of the only three public institutions of higher education that is listed in the texas state constitution. please don’t use this to stalk me I just like sharing the history of my school it’s also in the middle of nowhere, kinda, and you’ll read a lot about my experiences with trying to find something to do, lol.

it’s a really big party school as well (don’t be misled, we’re all very studious and they don’t call us “productive panthers” for nothing!) so a big focus of mine is learning how to avoid distractions and prioritizing school over fun when necessary. but I’m also a really big advocate for having fun. a healthy balance of work and play is necessary to have a healthy and happy life!

I’m not really much of a studyspo person. I don’t take pretty notes! my notes tend to be neat (most of the time) though, so I may post my study arrangement every now and again!

hello to everyone coming across this post! i wanted to make a college masterpost specifically tailored to students looking into attending HBCUs!

for those who are unaware:

an HBCU is a Historically Black College or University. they were created before black people were allowed to attend white educational institutions to give black students a chance to succeed at the same rates as their white counterparts.

gpa & sat/act requirements tend to be low because HBCUs aim to give all students a chance. many black and brown youth come from disproportionately underfunded schools in underserved communities. HBCUs aim to give those students who may not have a super high gpa a chance at a college education that many PWIs (predominantly white institutions) will not offer them.

hbcu lifestyle: over 100 scholarships to choose from for different majors, need-based, merit-based, community service, etc.

hbcu connect: this site has a ton of resources (including a scholarship directory) for hbcu students and students of color in general, definitely check it out.

common black college app: this application is like the common app… but better. through this app, you can apply to any number of the 54 participating HBCUs (pictured below) for $35. total. I used this and it saved me so much money in applying.

hbcu group tours: I went on an hbcu tour my junior year of high school and it changed my perspective on everything. I met other students that I still talk to today, I learned a lot about hbcu culture and history, and it helped me decide to commit to my hbcu! 💛💜

i finally visited one of the new cafes in my town! it’s very pretty but also very small, but i like the way they don’t use plastic waste and are environmentally friendly ^^’ anyways, i’ve missed nearly a whole week of school due to sickness so i have a lot to catch up on!
