Making friends as an adult is hard

Not like you can just send an invitation card

But I guess I can’t just go through life alone

Although it’s very much in my comfort zone

So I took a chance and put myself out there

And found some friends to dine with in the open air

We talked and laughed over drinks and food

And made plans to travel during Covid’s interlude

We’ve all come here during a strange time

And are all seeking new partners in crime

Maybe making friends isn’t that difficult

Ten years have passed since those days

When we would see each other in the hallways

Staying up to do homework all night 

Even though there seemed no end in sight

But all of a sudden we’re taken back

Like a moment snapped in a Kodak

To simpler times and sleep-deprived rhymes

Hearing that song that I played on repeat 

That got me through those ruled lined sheets 

The smell of the beginning of summer 

That signaled senior year was almost over 

Those memories come flooding in as if I were just there at seventeen …
