Oathbringer also cannonizes DID Shallan and really explores that which kind of skyrockets her character depth! How could I forget this is the book that makes Veil into a real charecter in her own right and introduces Radiant as well. This has been so high in my Cosmere Rankings for a reason lmao.

I think part of what makes Oathbringer such a strong book is that 'The Blackthorn' has cast a mighty and long shadow over EVERY interaction Dalinar has outside of Adolin and Renarin. We are aware that Dalinar was a significantly different person before we see him in Way of Kings, but we only see that in echo, in the way people treat him, either like a washed up failure, or like an animal who could still snap at any time, we see him in the restraints Dalinar puts on himself so that he does not 'become' The Blackthorn again, we see brief flashes where Dalinar lets go and bulldozes through whatever's infront of him- but we never see The Blackthorn directly.

Oathbringer shines a spotlight on the dirty, bloody history behind the charecter we've come to know, shows us The Blackthorn, and he lives up to the legends.

It's also the Shakallodin book, which is just icing on the cake.

I think the exact point Saedeus decides to betray Dalinar is when he's dragged to the ground and surrounded and Dalinar charges through an entire army to rescue him. When he's standing over Saedeus breaking apart soldier after soldier like he was born for this bloodshed, Saedeus is on the ground going "Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. This senile old man is *still* The Blackthorn deep down. I have to get rid of him before he realizes that."
