"Aye! That's my boy! Men get a row boat ready for him." He replies proudly.
The crew goes to the side of the ship, undoing the rope holding up the small boat. It splashes into the water. As they drop a flare gun into the small oak boat, along with two jugs of water.
"Enough for about two months if ya ration. Hunting those mermaids are no easy tasks. Take the harpoon in your hands with you as well... Are you sure your up to this son?"
"I won't come back until I've fucking killed one." I say wrapping my head-scarf around my forehead. My blonde spikes peeking behind the red cloth. With determination, I set sail towards where the merman disappeared. Leaving the captain, crew, and ol' Mereye.
The blue sea softly hits the small row boat. The two jugs of water and flare gun roll from one side to the other side of the oak boat.
The clouds move with the wind. The sun shining down on me. The heat already getting to me. I sit the harpoon down, letting the waters drift me around.Ol' Mereye is probably already a yard away. They will most likely stop at the nearest village for awhile until they see my flare gun. I look around, maybe to someplace the merman could stop and rest, like a coral reef or something.
Out in the distance are rocks peaking out of the water, big enough to be a cave. If I was a merman I would go in there to shield myself from the sun. With my destination set, I grab the oar hidden under my seat, rowing myself closer to the rock.My body moves side to side with the waves, my red bandana touching my lower back.
Mereyes waves hit me, even though the boat is far- in the sea it can cause a chain reaction in the waves, eventually hitting me. Because the mass of the boat was so large, in turn, so we're the waves. The first wave Mereye sent my way wasn't large but as it kept coming it turned to the point, the boat was on its side. I may be a pirate but there is nothing I can do against the sea herself.
She got so angry to the point my small row boat was upside down, and I was underwater. Water entered my lungs, as my throat gagged for air. Shooting out of the water, my leather boots kicking underwater as I choke up sea. I flipping my boat back the right way, climbing my soaking body back into the small oak.
"FUCK!!!" my voice echos into the shining sky.
Sea gulls flying away from my loud scream. My flare gun, water jugs, oar, and harpoon are all in the deep sea by now. I only have myself and the boat.
Water drips from my blonde spikes onto my nose. My shirt, pants, and boots wetter then a ladies thighs. Sitting with my arms resting on my thighs, I drift away from the rock which I was rowing too. Not even giving a fuck as I have no oar to steer with.
Hours of constant diffing in the blazing sun, the sky fades from blue to purple. The clouds spearing more. I touch my fingers to my nose, hissing at the sunburn I got.
I passed coral and rock ps alot but I didn't even bother looking for that merman, for one thing he is probably long gone, and for another I have nothing to kill him with. But a part of me has been telling me he isn't long gone, and he knows I have nothing to kill him with so he is sticking around. My gut screams at me for food or water. Normally I would use the harpoon to catch some kind of fish, dock on a rock, create a fire, cook my fish and go to sleep. But now I will have to skip it all and just sleep.
I lay down, resting my head on the wood, sloshing all I hear."Hey boy...~!" A male voice sounds from the water.Without getting up, I peek my head over the edge and see the merman.
He is laying o his back, his tail on the surface openly mocking me, the scales are a green-teal color, all going the same direction, the end of his tail translucent green, glitter imbedded into it like his somehow dry unruly hair. His emerald eyes twinkle like a newborn seals would. His arms slightly scarred, fishnet red marks lining his torso. Gills on his neck. In his arms is one of my water jugs. "Want this?" He waves it in the air like a trophy.
I lay back down, ignoring the merman.
I hear a clunk and feel something heavy against my thigh. I look down to see my gray jug sloshing around with the boat.I lean my head up only to hear splashing and a missing merman.
"THIS DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING MERMAN! DON'T THINK IT FUCKING DOES!" I yell out to the ocean, and in turn I hear a voice yelling back, but I see no one.
"IT'S IZUKU! AND NO PROBLEM, PIRATE~!"
Izuku? That's a stupid fuckin name, I think to myself. Unscrewing the cap I take a big gulp of water, my throat pleased at the lack of salt.
Screwing the cap back on, I lay down. The purple sky now a dark gray, the stars twinkle out with the moon being in full cuss. The captain told me the history behind "cuss":
full moon or "cuss" of the moon was called that because it illuminated their nocturnal raids, making it too easy for coast guards and target ships to spot them. Just some things you pick up in the pirate life.
"Hey... Why do you hate me?" A soft and delicate voice awakes me from my thoughts.
"Hm?" I respond just as soft, it's the merman. He returned so soon?!
"I- I was just thinking, I gave you the water jug as a peace offering. But I know your still going to try to kill me... Why? What did I do? Exist? Just being born, has lead me to the fate of death? I haven't hurt a soul in my life yet humans do this to me, and call me a monster." He asks sounding genuinely confused most likely pointing to the scars I saw in the golden hour skylight.
I don't open my eyes, my back turned to the merman I so easily trust not to stab me in the back right now.
"Because... Your different. That's just they way it is." My pupils staring at the back of my eyelids.
"C-cant I change it? Is there anything I can do to change myself? To... Fit in!?" He sounds more desperate, almost begging to me like I could change a thing.
"Kill yourself, and hope you'll be born a human in your next life." I say honestly.
"And what if I did? What if I died?" He asks in a shakey voice, on the verge of crying.
"No one would care, we would all be just... The same. Rather you lived... Or died."
He doesn't respond, I only know he left because of the droplets his tail splashed on my face.
I peak open my eyes, white foam drifts on the surface of the water, reflecting the stars in the sky. Making the illusion of an endless sky.
I close my eyes, as the sound of water hitting oak rocks me to sleep. My body telling me the merman is watching over me. Body trusting the merman fully but my brain does not..
