I love how the Elder Scrolls series had a race of hive-minded steampunk elves that were so aggressively anti-theistic that they built a synthetic god to act as an existential negative integer to all creation just to test the hypothesis that it could be cancelled out. But upon powering this synthetic god on, the inherent illogic and irrationality of apotheosis spread through the hive-mind like an atomic blast wave, and these elves who based their entire worldview in logic and rationality could no longer justify their own existence, and so they cancelled themselves out of the universal equation, in part proving their hypothesis in the process.
I am vibrating, please buckle up and get comfy because Iâm gonna not shut up about the dwarves for a hot minute because I LOVE this shit.
Aetherium was introduced in Skyrim specifically, if I remember correctly. Itâs basically a crystal that attunes especially well to sonic waves, which makes it a core component in tonal architecture, a form of magic thatâs basically alchemical transmutation thatâs based in sound. So this magic is extremely important because the whole thing about the elder scrolls universe is that itâs a sort of cosmic song. Everything has frequencies to it, and the dwarves learned that they can not only hear them, but manipulate them on a small scale. Aetherium most likely acts like a resonator on a guitar, amplifying the magic. Which means it most likely was present at the construction site of the Numidium.
Now the kicker with the brass god of NO and IS NOT is itâs original power source: the Heart of Lorkhan.
Basic rundown: Anu (Stasis, Time) and Padomay (Change, Space) created avatars of themselves named Auriel (elven ancestor-god of time) and Lorkhan (trickster demiurge). Lorkhan tricked Auriel and the other elven ancestor-spirits into creating the world (becoming Aedra, spirits who contributed to the creation of the world, and lost a large amount of their power; not to be confused with Daedra, spirits who chose not to contribute in the creation of the world, and thus held onto their power), thus binding themselves to it in the process. This was not known to the ancestor-spirits, and they killed Lorkhan for it, ripped out his heart, and Auriel tied to an arrow and shot it out into the sea where Red Mountain then rose out of. But Lorkhan could not die because he was tied up in the creation of the planet just like them, and so long as the planet still existed, he would exist in some way. This technically makes Lorkhan an outcast and dead Aedra, the only one to be either, the only one to be both. There is a theory that does suggest he is a Daedric Prince, and Nirn is his Sphere (Molag Bal with Coldharbour, Mehrunes Dagon with the Deadlands, Sheogorath with the Shivering Isles, etcâŚ), but this is posed by Mankar Camoran, the leader of the cult that whipped out the Septim Dynasty and began the Oblivion Crisis as seen in TES IV: Oblivion, so take it with a grain of salt. Dude was a scary wacko.
Itâs to be noted that Lorkhanâs name literally translates from Altmeridoon (high elven language) as âDoom Drumâ. Itâs also to be noted that âDoomâ to the elves and their ancestor gods is being trapped/born in flesh and blood bodies, and thus subject to the concept of mortality. Lorkhan as the Doom Drum means he is the tempo of this cosmic song, driving it forward, bringing it out of an eternal chorus and into the verses, and the inevitable end. Most elves see him as Satan-adjacent, while most men see him as a chief creator god. Both are technically true.
The dwarves found the Heart of Lorkhan in Red Mountain while tapping into the geothermal energy there. Now with them being elves, youâd think they would try and destroy it, but the dwarves were devout anti-theists. They believed the gods (infernal and divine) existed, yes, because in this fantasy universe there is hard evidence that they do (aurielâs bow and shield, the amulet of kings, ebony, heart stones, etcâŚ). They just decried their godhood. To the dwarves, the gods were just outerplanar beings subject to outerplanar laws that made them seem especially powerful in comparison to the denizens of the planet. And theyâre 100% correct. Their problem is that this knowledge made them catastrophically arrogant.
There was a sect of tonal architects, led by a dwarf named Kagrenac, who hypothesized that since tonal magic could alter existing frequencies, it could conceivably also negate them with equal, opposite frequencies (think in mathematical terms of 1 + -1 = 0).
So, when youâre an aggressively anti-theistic elf thatâs happy to gloat over how smart and right you to all your religious cousins, and you have the heart of a dead god that created the entire world⌠you build a fucking Eva Unit with intent to kill the gods just to prove that you can.
Where and how this fucked them up into fundamental nonexistence was that tonal magic was used for mass telepathy, making them a pseudo hive mind. The second Kagrenac struck the Heart with his tools, the Nimidiumâs quasi-conscious flooded the mindscape with the knowledge of apotheosis.
Apotheosis in TES Lore is fucking crazy because itâs literally a character in the game becoming aware that they are a character in the game, and it has three outcomes: zero sum, CHIM, and Amaranth.
Zero sum occurs when a character cannot rationalize that reality as they know it- themself included- is a simulation. They do not exist, thus the newfound godly power is used reflexively to erase themselves from the simulation.
CHIM is when a character becomes aware of the simulation, but is able to hold onto their sense of self. Since they know that they are code and that the world around them is also code, reality within the bounds of the simulation becomes an extension of their being to be used and manipulated at will.
Amaranth is a possible natural progression of CHIM in which a character who has been made aware of the simulation becomes aware of who built the simulation, this builder being referred to as the Godhead (which is you, the player). The character who achieved CHIM- if they so desire- then creates their own simulations and becomes a Godhead, playing their own games. Vivec, the warrior-poet God-King of the dark elves, is the only known individual to have achieved Amaranth, and only in out of source text created by Michael Kirkbride (former artist and lore writer for Bethesda. You can thank him for Morrowind being the coolest kind of acid trip).
Kagrenac struck the Heart, the Numidium spread apotheosis through the tonal magic telepathy like a mindplague, the entire race of the dwarves (at least the ones that were in the plane of Mundus at the time) zero summed.
But since the Numidium was only a quasi-conscious echo of the dead god Lorkhan, it could not zero sum. Every time it gets powered on without a Shezzarine (mortal avatar of Lorkhan) present to control it, it goes fucking berserk. Itâs following out preinstalled instructions to cancel out reality that were only meant for alpha testing. Itâs fundamentally tied to the Heart, and thus to Lorkhan, so it cannot be destroyed by mortal or godly means, only dismantled as a stopgap. The Numidium has been reassembled and disassembled multiple times, has disputed itself out of existence and disappeared, and then reappeared after disputing its nonexistence, and has turned time nonlinear on multiple occasions in history. Itâs a buggy bit of code thatâs glitching the cornfed flying fuck out of reality whenever itâs activated.
The âspace elvesâ you mention are actually the dark elves of the out of canon 9th Era (also penned by Michael Kirkbride), who fled to one of the moons after the Numidium was reassembled and powered on (again) and turned the planet of Nirn both physically and metaphysically uninhabitable. It was finally, FINALLY destroyed by one of these dark elves, Jubal-lun-Sul, who realized that it wanted to die, and convinced it to kill itself. And since dying and being unmade were contextually different enough things, it stayed dead.
Donât even get me started on the Akulakhan and Dagoth Ur. Shit ALWAYS gets weirder and more convoluted when Dagoth Ur is involved.

so uh. itâs a giant if, but IF i wrote it, would any skyrim fans be interested in reading a fic about the adventures of my silly little half-dremora? important points to consider:
- no one in the story is the LDB as this is my doomed universe
- itâs mostly ocs at least for Part 1 but maybe iâll eventually add followers to the main cast
- it is not transcriptions of ingame quests (excepting the beginning which follows the main quest) but instead the random adventures that their path takes them on as they fight to do whatever good they can in a world thatâs ending
and hereâs the tomodachi version of the main character herself, Eilonwy Many-Names because why not
(We apologized to the parents and they found it hilarious so itâs all good! I felt so bad bcs the park was empty and I didnât notice them walking by!)

donât think iâve ever explained it before so here are my skyrim universes:
The original universe comes from about 2021, when I didnât have a great understanding of the lore and wanted to stay mostly vanilla with my characters. The âmain threeâ (or at least original 3 characters) were Zazita (Khajiit Dragonborn and Thieves Guild character), Leana (Altmer vampire and College of Winterhold + Dark Brotherhood + Dawngaurd character), and Natnela (Dunmer Companion character). Then I added Ghost Meira (Bosmer), who was the spirit of the second-ever Dragonborn after Miraak who helped clean up the dragons after Alduinâs initial defeat before heading home to Valenwood and founding a clan where all her female descendants would be named after her, which was how I got to Meira, a descendant of Ghost Meira and also a Dragonborn, at the same time as Zazita. She was supposed to be a side story, just adventuring around with Marcurio, but they quickly became my preferred duo and wrapped themselves up in the main story. It was all pretty standard: a bunch of adventurersâ paths all lead them to meeting each other and forming a party, then they discover that Zazita and Meira can save the world, so they save the world. Following that, Meira was my Dragonborn DLC character who would eventually pick up Miraak and Marcurio and hersâ final companion. There was a bunch of flimsy explanations for how there were so many Dragonborns in one place, but I honestly forgot about Zazita because she was the most boring character and began to focus on everyoneâs original plot lines more. There werenât any main human characters because at that point I considered them to be too boring, but I created a bunch of minor antagonists (including Saoirse, Basil, Lynhild and Thyren) and minor College mages for fun (Risia and Perelaine) who were all human. All this did in the long run was make the world feel extremely cluttered and lead to me forgetting about my major characters.
There was also a sequel to the original universe, where I decided to completely disregard the fact that the Skyrim Dragonborn is canonically the Last Dragonborn and have some fun inventing a new one. it took place like 200? years after Skyrim. The cast of the sequel included Cassio (Imperial Dragonborn), Tolyth (Dunmer thief), and Marelie (Breton, also a thief) as the new protagonists (also Inigo for some reason????) and Leana, Serana, Meira, and Miraak as returning characters. The plot focused on Leana trying to help Cassio unlock his power as Dragonborn and try to make things like the good old days before all the people she cared about died while some power-hungry pirates (who had originally kidnapped Cassio and Tolyth) tried to hunt them down??? i wrote a LOT about the sequel and none of it makes any sense
both of those are technically still the Original Universe, though
The Doomed Universe started around 2024, when I had gotten very bored of my Origina Universe characters. The reason itâs called the Doomed Universe is because I was never able to come up with an actual Dragonborn character who I liked. All the ocs in the universe are explicitly NOT the LDB, and since itâs been years and the inspiration still hasnât come to me, I donât think there ever will be a Dragonborn to save that universe. The main feature of the Doomed Universe is Eilonwy Many-Names, a 216-year-old Nord/Half-Dremora spellsword. sheâs changed a lot from the original picrew concept I made of her:
the original was a chaos gremlin and the current eilonwy is a tortured hero, but her quest has always been the same: figure out a way to save the world, or at least make it a better place, in an effort to receive adoration in place of love that she never received due to her half-daedric nature. sheâs one of my favorite ocs to whack with metal bats because the angst she provides is just sooooooo good. her modern lore is more or less that sheâs been generically adventuring around for a loooong time, joined the thieves guild at multiple points, and enlisted in the Great War to fight for the Empire when that happened. afterward, she took to wandering Tamriel and helping rebuild where it was needed and came back to Skyrim after hearing about the civil war where sheâs doing some more generic adventuring. the main reason i refuse to make her the LDB is because itâs exactly what she would dream of: being this great hero who can save the world and be loved(?). i havenât written anything about the Doomed Universe, but if I did it would closely follow Eilonwyâs adventures.
There are two other major characters for the Doomed Universe that are less fleshed out. The first is Lleviah Dayhari, a Dunmer noble of House Sadras (but itâs not like a big deal or anything) and Dwemer Engineer, trying to unravel the secrets of Dwemer technology so that she can reintroduce it across Tamriel. Lleviah came to Skyrim to study its Dwemer ruins where she met Eilonwy, where Eilonwy fell fast and hard in love with her but it was unrequited as Lleviah fell in love with Ondolemar (Eilonwy hates Ondolemar, because heâs Thalmor). However, when Eilonwy gets kidnapped and tortured by Thalmor, Lleviah is the one to convince Ondolemar to save her and begin to sway him away from the Thalmor. Beyond that, Lleviah doesnât have much plot involvement, because I never exactly thought through what happens after the Thalmor escape.
the final major(?) character of the Doomed Universe is mostly just there for fun. Solveig Star-Finder is a Nord wayfinder and sole survivor of a shipwreck that left her stranded in Skyrim. she has the skills as a spellsword to survive, but sheâs sort of lost and doesnât really know what to do anymore, so is just following the stars and helping what people she can in the meantime. she eventually meets and teams up with Eilonwy and thatâs about as far as I got with her. i just really like the concept of Solveig and I hope she reveals more plotline to me in the future.
while the Doomed Universe would follow Eilonwy, I think the main story would focus on them trying to find meaning and fighting for whatever good is left in a world thatâs ending. where the original universe was mostly transcriptions of in-game quest, this one would probably be loosely-connected adventures as Eilonwy and co. rove skyrim trying to help people along the way.
thinking about the time in high school when i got called out of class for an interview because the two guys interviewing me âheard that i might believe in bigfootâ and just wanted me to explain how/why i thought bigfoot might exist. i think they also asked if i believed in dragons
iâm not sure if that interview went into the school newsletter that i never read or if they just never did anything with it because as far as i know it never aired on the school news. i just wonder how they managed to single me out. like yeah i did believe in cryptids but i wasnât like super vocal about it so the fact that they came to get me specifically was really bizarre. did they interview anyone else? did they ask around the school like âhey do you know anyone who believes in bigfoot?â and somehow reached one of my friends? it was such a weirdly specific thing to know about me
I'm sure someone has covered this idea and a lot better than I'm about to, but Skyrim is really a perfect game for a time like this because it is set in a world that has run out of time and run out of hope. The settings of the previous two installments of the elder scrolls series have both been struck by tradgedy. Morrowind has been devastated by the eruption of the red mountain. The empire that the hero of kvatch helped save was shaken by a war that they ultimately lost. Now Skyrim faces war, and political unrest, and a world ending threat. But it is not only the province that is coming undone, every faction in Skyrim seem to be on the verge of collapse. The thieves guild is in dire straits. The dark brotherhood has lost sight of its principles and its faith. The oldest and greatest warriors of the land, the companions, are plagued by a curse and hunted like animals. The college of winterhold is empty, without prestige, and falling into the sea. Everywhere you look, you see that all things that used to be will soon be no longer. Nothing seems to thrive in this time and place, yet somehow, when the world is at its lowest, the Dragonborn comes and the world begins to heal. The war resolves and new leaders come to power, there is whispers of the thalmor one day facing retribution. The thieves guild regains the graces of nocturnal. The dark brotherhood hears the voice of the night mother once again. The companions break free of their curse. Alduin is gone, and the world is suddenly, no longer ending.

so trying to help a litter of orphaned skunk kits on our driveway was not the ideal situation to find out that iâm much more sensitive to skunk spray than the rest of my family is
1. Bitch Island, currently home to Evil Me because no one else has gotten into two fights and unfriended two other people
2. Love Island, where I manipulate miis into falling in love if thereâs a particular ship I want. since thereâs nothing on it except flowers, i can put them close enough together without them getting distracted to trigger one of the crush cutscenes
3. The torture labyrinth that I call JĂśrmungandr because it wraps around the entire island
4. random garbage everywhere because i give my miis everything they ask for and canât be bothered to decorate
5. colossal obsidian sphere (previously had a throne and a radiant floating circle next to it but i removed them for a cleaner screenshot)
