Steve, rumor has it you're giving Billy more than a place to stay.
"You're not wrong. I'm also giving food and recreation. We have a pool and the man likes to play lifeguard when I'm swimming. He just sits there and watches me do my laps. Not weird or creepy at all."
@grimmusings
Eddie, rumor has it you stole the cheerleader from the football player.
"And what is the problem with that? The damsel need to be rescued from her tower and all I did was open the door for her. She was the one who stepped through it."

Steveâs breath stutters softly the second Eddieâs hand slips inside his jeans, the reaction immediate enough that thereâs no hiding it. His eyes close briefly as his forehead drops against Eddieâs again, one hand tightening slightly where it rests against his side before he exhales through his nose, shaky around the edges.
âJesus, EdsâŚâ he murmurs, voice rougher now, the nickname slipping out automatically. Thereâs warmth in it though, no hesitation, no pulling away. If anything, Steve leans closer, chasing the feeling instead of retreating from it. His fingers curl more firmly into the fabric at Eddieâs back while the other hand slides up along his waist slowly, grounding himself in the closeness between them.
When Eddie looks up at him like that, nervous and hopeful all at once, something in Steveâs expression softens immediately. He lifts a hand to Eddieâs jaw, thumb brushing lightly against his cheek before he kisses him againâslow, reassuring, lingering just long enough to take some of the uncertainty out of the moment. âYou donât gotta look so scared,â Steve says quietly against his mouth, a faint smile tugging there despite the heat building between them. âI want you touching me.â

Steve hears the water shut off, and something in him tightens before he can stop it. The sudden quiet shifts the whole room, makes every sound sharperâthe rustle of fabric, the dull clang of metal, the steady rhythm of his own breathing thatâs just a little too uneven. He doesnât look toward the showers right away. Instead, he buttons his jeans, drags a hand back through his damp hair like heâs got all the time in the world. Like he didnât just stand there listening.
Thatâs what finally does it. Steve turns just as Billy comes through the doorway, towel slung low, like nothing that just happened meant anything. Like he didnât say it. Like he didnât look at him like that. Steve pushes off the locker without hesitation, stepping forward to cut him off clean, planting himself right in Billyâs path. Not aggressiveâbut deliberate. Close. Closer than theyâve been yet.
âFunny,â Steve says, voice lower now, quieterâbut heavier for it. His gaze lifts, locks in, doesnât waver. âYou talk a big game in there.â
His hand comes upânot touching, not quiteâbut hovering close enough to the edge of Billyâs shoulder that it feels intentional. "I would have lasted longer."

can someone please tell steve harrington that staring at a manâs mouth is not a normal response to conversation or conflict
Steve wearing Billy's leather jacket again this season is everything! đâ¤ď¸
continued from here {x}
Steve leans into it without thinking, Billyâs hand in his hair pulling something quiet out of him that he doesnât try to joke away or fill with noise. His eyes slip shut for a second, just letting it happen, the warmth grounding in a way that feels almost new, and when he opens them again he stays close instead of pulling back. His hand shifts in the water, fingers brushing lightly against Billyâs arm before settling there, easy and unforced. âYouâre getting good at that,â Steve murmurs, a faint, softer smile tugging at his mouth without any edge of teasing. He studies him for a second after that, really looking, like heâs noticing the effort, the choice behind it. âI like this version of you,â he adds quietly, not making it bigger than it is, just letting it sit between them.
@strangeflayed

Eddie huffs out a quiet laugh at that, the sound softer than usual, like it doesnât quite make it all the way out. âYeah,â he murmurs, a little crooked smile pulling at his mouth again. âPretty sure Iâve already got the reputation. Might as well lean into it, right?â His thumb keeps moving against her hand, slow and absent, like heâs grounding himself without thinking about it. But the joke doesnât stick for long. His gaze drops to where her hand rests against his chest, like he can feel it more because sheâs noticing it, the steady rhythm under her palm.
âHey,â Eddie says, softer this time, not teasing anymore. His fingers tighten slightly around hers, not enough to hurt, just enough to hold. âYou donât have to pretend itâs nothing, you know. People are gonna talk. They always do.â He pauses, searching her face like heâs trying to make sure she really means it, that sheâs not just saying what he wants to hear. âBut yeah,â he adds after a moment, voice low, steadier now, âweâll know the truth.â

Steve goes rigid at that. Not at the angerâhe expects thatâbut at the flatness that follows. The way Billy says it, like itâs already decided, like heâs already slipping somewhere Steve canât follow. His grip tightens without thinking, hands anchoring hard at Billyâs arms like that alone might keep him here.
âDonâtââ Steve starts, pulling back just enough to see his face, eyes searching, almost frantic for a second before it settles into something sharper. âDonât do that. Donât check out on me like that.â His voice drops on the last part, less command, more plea.
The words about his body hit, but Steve shakes his head immediately, quick and stubborn. âI donât care about that,â he says, voice rough but steadier now, something grounding under it. âWeâve dealt with worse than âimpossible,â alright? Thatâs kind of our thing.â His jaw tightens, gaze locked on Billy like if he looks away this might disappear.
His hands shift, one catching the front of Billyâs shirt, holding him thereânot aggressive, just desperate enough to matter. âAnd you donât get to decide itâs over,â Steve adds, quieter now but more intense for it. âNot before we even try. Not when I justââ He cuts himself off, breath catching, something slipping through before he can stop it.
Because this isnât just relief. Itâs him. Alive, talking, looking at him like this is real. Steve swallows hard, grip tightening again, like heâs steadying himself as much as Billy.
âI thought you were gone,â he says, softer now, the edge breaking just enough to let something real through. âI spent all this time trying to be okay with that. Trying to just⌠live with it.â His eyes flick over Billyâs face, like heâs memorizing it all over again.
âAnd now youâre standing here telling me it doesnât matter?â Steve continues, quieter, more shaken now. âThat youâre just⌠stuck here and thatâs it?â He shakes his head slowly, disbelief and refusal tangled together.
âNo,â Steve says, voice low but firm. âIâm not doing that. Iâm not losing you twice.â His hand loosens just slightly in Billyâs shirt, not letting goâjust enough to soften the hold, thumb brushing once like he didnât mean to.
âYou donât get to write yourself off like that,â he adds, quieter now, something steadier underneath it all. âNot when I just got you back.â

Jonathan had replayed his last meeting with Steve over and over again in his head over the past months until it no longer made him nauseous. He still couldn't believe he'd confessed his feelings to Steve Harrington, of all people, but at the time it had felt right. (Well, no, it felt awful, his anxiety threatening to make him barf at any moment, but at least it was out there.) He'd given him a homemade mixtape too because cheesy as that was, it was a little easier to communicate in music. It had songs on it that reminded him of Steve, songs he thought he'd like, a couple of Jonathan's favorites, and maybe a few that tried to explain his feelings.
At the time, he hadn't believed he'd ever see him or Hawkins again. He hadn't expected anything but dumbfounded silence and maybe a right hook. He certainly hadn't expected Steve to feel the same way, especially not after they'd been in competition for the same girl for so long. That wasn't why he'd done it. He'd wanted to clear the air and leave with his conscience clean and, more weirdly, he'd wanted Steve to know there was nothing standing between him and Nancy anymore, least of all Jonathan. It may have taken sleeping with her to realize he wasn't âŚbuilt⌠that way, but he still wanted her to be happy. She was an incredible person. She deserved to be happy.
Jonathan wasn't well-suited to the California lifestyle. He was pale and indoorsy and generally disdainful of pretty people, so that wasn't exactly his crowd. There were things he liked about it though. It was a lot easier to get weed, for one thing. And the people there weren't as tightly knit as the ones in Hawkins, or maybe that was just a byproduct of being free of high school. Everyone wasn't constantly in everyone's business. It was very live and let live. He'd done his best to let go of Steve and move on. He'd done some experimenting, trying to figure out exactly who he was and what he liked. He thought he'd answered that question pretty well for himself, enough to come clean about it to his mom and Will.
Now, he was sitting in a van while they passed the Welcome to Hawkins sign, and trying not to have a panic attack. He didn't even have time to get stoned on this long-ass road trip, so there was nothing keeping his heart rate under control. His knee bobbed nervously up and down out of time to the low music on the radio. He probably wouldn't even see Steve today. There was no reason for him to be waiting at the old Byers home. Was there? Shit, maybe. They were here because it was starting again, after all, and Steve was a part of that. He could swear his heart stopped for a second when the van parked and he saw the small crowd waiting for them, Steve among them.
He exhaled nervously and climbed out of the passenger seat, slightly stiff from sitting for so long. He consoled himself with the idea that Steve probably wouldn't say anything about it. There was no upside to acknowledging it. It would be just as weird for Steve as it was for Jonathan, if not more. So⌠it was fine. Everything was fine. His worn sneakers hit the dirt, and he closed the car door behind him, hiding his feelings behind that resting bitch face that had gotten him through high school. No reaction rarely got him into trouble.
Steve shouldnât be here. Thatâs the first thing that hits him the second the van rolls to a stop and the door slides open. Heâd told himself he was just here for the Upside Down crap starting up again, for the kids, for whatever fresh nightmare Hawkins decided to cough up this timeâbut the second he sees Jonathan step out of that van, all of that feels a little too convenient. A little too thin.
Because he recognizes him immediately. Of course he does.
Jonathan looks⌠older. Not in some dramatic wayâjust enough that it throws Steve off for half a second. Longer hair, different posture, something a little more settled and a little more unsure at the same time. And just like that, it all comes backâthe awkward, heavy silence, the mixtape sitting in Steveâs car for three days before he worked up the nerve to listen to it, the way it made his chest feel too tight and too loud all at once.
Yeah. That.
Steve shifts his weight where he stands with the others, arms crossing loosely over his chest like itâs just another day, like heâs not suddenly hyper-aware of everything Jonathanâs doing. The door shuts. Jonathan steps out. And there it isâthat same closed-off expression, like nothingâs getting in or out unless he says so.
Steve exhales through his nose, short and quiet, then pushes off the car heâd been leaning against. He doesnât overthink it. If he does, he wonât move at all.
âByers.â Itâs simple. Neutral. But it carries.
Steve steps a little closer, stopping just short of crowding him, hands settling on his hips like he needs somewhere to put the energy. His gaze flicks over Jonathan onceâquick, assessingâbefore settling back on his face.
âYou lookâŚâ he starts, then cuts himself off with a small huff, like heâs not about to dig himself into that sentence. âCalifornia didnât kill you. Thatâs something.â
Thereâs a beat. Not awkwardâjust loaded. His mouth twitches faintly, not quite a smile, not quite anything easy. âDidnât think youâd be back this soon.â
continued from here {x}
Eddie catches that half-smile, and something in him softensânot because itâs convincing, but because sheâs still trying. Still here. âYeah,â he says quietly, glancing over at her before looking back at the road. âIt is. But that doesnât make it normal.â His fingers tap lightly against the steering wheel, not restless, just present. âJust means you got used to carrying it.â Another small glance her way, softer this time. âDoesnât mean youâre supposed to keep doing it forever.â
When she says she doesnât know how, Eddie nods like that makes perfect sense. No surprise. No pressure. âMost people donât,â he admits, voice easy and steady. âNot at first.â A faint smile tugs at his mouth. âItâs not like thereâs a switch you flip and suddenly youâre good at being honest about how you feel. Itâs more like⌠you get a couple minutes where you donât have to pretend. Then maybe next time itâs a little longer.â His eyes flick briefly to the way sheâs curled in on herself, but he doesnât call it out, doesnât try to pull her out of it. Just lets her have it.
The tease earns a quiet huff of a laugh. âWow,â Eddie mutters, shaking his head a little. âMy scary van? Thatâs cold.â Thereâs no bite to it, just warmth, something lighter threading back in. âAnd here I thought I was building a solid reputation.â
The road opens up ahead, trees thinning until the horizon stretches wide. Eddie slows, guiding the van off onto a narrow path, tires crunching softly before he brings it to a stop. When the engine cuts, the quiet settles differentlyâno walls, no pressure, just open space. He leans back slightly, glancing over at her. âFigured if youâre gonna try not pretending,â he says gently, âmight as well do it somewhere no oneâs expecting anything from you. Here you can scream all you want. Get all of that bullshit you deal with out and breathe a little. I do it from time to time."
