As Thojin walked the street, something rolled beneath his foot, almost tripping him.
In a small wooden cage, a pixie squeaks indignantly, holding onto her prison for dear life as she yells insults at the passerby!
Rude! Clumsy! Horrible! Can’t even notice the person beneath their feet, can they?
She sneezes loudly, a rude gesture amongst pixies, letting her feelings be quite known! Even though she could tell no one was listening.
~🧵🦋
Thojin comes to a stop, crouching down to find the wooden cage, for, despite the appearance of blindness, he could see her. After all, she was within the time stream; a gleaming, changing light.
"Are you alright little one?"
He wished to ask more, like what a pixie was doing in the mountains, and how she ended up in a cage, but those were not polite questions.
“No! I’ve been kicked and stepped on and I am quite honestly without patience!”
She clears her throat politely, attempting to regain her composure. The pixie pulls her hair back, folding her scaled wings behind her.
“I would appreciate it if you could give me a lift up from the path, sir.”
Blackberry was quite miffed by her ride around the passerby’s feet. She’d only been outside her cocoon one day, and this had happened to her already! The indignity! The horror!
"It would be my pleasure."
He lifts the tiny cage gently and carries it from the road, setting it gently on the small patch of grass between the road and piles of packed snow..
"Are you sure you will be alright in such confinement?"
“…not at all, but the top won’t open! I tried and tried to do it, it just won’t work.”
She crosses her arms, pouting slightly.
“It’s impossible!”
On closer look, the only thing holding the cage lid closed, was a carved wooden hinge. It made the pixie’s miniscule size seem the reason why it wouldn’t open.
“I don’t suppose you have anything you can use to break the bars? You might be a strong man, I can’t tell..”
"Perhaps... I may even be able to open the lid, if you don't mind."
He kneels down, ignoring the mud and grass stains on his nice clothing.
He pretends to struggle for a moment before opening the lid of the cage.
"There, is that better?"
Blackberry squeaks in excitement, climbing out of her wooden prison.
“Very much so, sir!”
The pixie spreads her shining wings, fluttering up to Thojin’s shoulder.
“I am forever thankful.”
She curtseys politely, pulling on the feathery skirt of her dress.
“May I be made aware of your name? I’m Blackberry, if you’d wish to know.”
He isn't quite sure what she is doing, he can't see her well enough while she is standing on his shoulder, but he nods his head in greeting.
"I am called Thojin. It is nice to meet you, Blackberry."
“Thojin! Great! Now.. where… are we?”
She asks, her voice trailing off into a squeak as she looks around at the snow and unfamiliar streets.
"We are in Null, in Vemodale."
He steps off the street to allow the traffic through without getting in the way.
"Oughtn't you be somewhere warmer? Asteria, perhaps?"
“Yes, well- I was someplace warmer. But then I woke up here! You see, I was finally able to bundle myself up for these beautiful wings I have now… but apparently my cocoon got snatched off my balcony!”
She sneezes, a soft twinkling sound of disbelief.
“I’m in such a situation, sir!”
The pixie sits down on his shoulder, resting her head in her hands.
"I am quite sorry."
He cannot help but wonder if a lost pixie was a good enough excuse to get him out of this country.
"Perhaps I can help you in some way? Do you know where you live?"
She hums thoughtfully, digging her hands in his shirt like you would a carpet.
“Well, there’s trees! Lots of them! -and! and we had very good cart-mice! I.. hadn’t ever left my village before.”
A wistful tone snuck into her voice.
"I'm sorry."
That simply wasn't a very helpful description at all. She had discribed every pixie village he'd ever heard of. Not that there was much point in saying so; clearly she was doing her best.
"For now, perhaps I can find you a place to stay and offer you a meal? '
She squeaks enthusiastically, hopping up before she clears her throat.
“I would be so grateful. You’re a very kindhearted man! I haven’t had anything for quite a bit now!”
BlackBerry leans forward, looking around from the vantage point of his shoulder curiously.
Null, the small town that Thojin happens to be visiting, is still recovering from a long winter. It is wet and grey and icy, and everyone seems to be hurrying to get inside. During the summer, it had some gorgeous trees that would have provided shade, but right now they were but barreb shadows of themselves.
Thojin carries Blackberry to the inn he is staying at.
"Here, you may eat anything they have to offer."
“Do they have any fruit? ..Or maybe an acorn of soup?”
She asks carefully, trying not to let her hunger lace her voice. If she could, she’d be snatching a blueberry this instant..
"Its not the season for fruit, but I'll do my best."
He orders a couple slices of bread slathered in an apple jam, and a large bowl of stew. Searching through his pockets, he finds a thimble for her to use as a mug and fills it with broth.
She takes it eagerly, nearly burning her mouth with the broth as she starts to sip politely.
The pixie sits on edge of the table, kicking her feet contentedly while she finishes her thimble.
“This is perfect. Thank you, Thojin.”
BlackBerry manages to pause long enough to say.

The horror!

A small marbled fox runs around the bend, panting heavily as its paws hit the ground in a thunder. It yips in concern, looking behind itself back at the hounds chasing after it.
It leaps, bouncing on air into a tree’s branches, its tail taking on a cool glow as it hopped. The kit watches carefully from atop the tree, staring down at the chase coming up to it with a stumped expression.

A red fox appears on a tree branch above it, looking down at it with amusement.
It looks up, tilting its head curiously. It’s nightlight like tail swishes over the branch as it tries to lift itself closer.
“Yrrrip?”
It asks lightly, politely wanting to know if the other fox was on the run. It didn’t seem scared, just surprised.
"Nrrp"
Makes a motion similar to a head shake, letting it know he isn't. He's just exploring.
Kitt wags its tail, hopping to another tree.
Rrrrrr?
Was he coming? Funny things ahead!
His tail wags and he yips in agreement, bounding after them.
The younger fox reaches into a hole in the trunk, pulling out a long cloth with an excited growl.
It waits a few more seconds for the hunting hounds to follow, before tugging hard, sending a barrage of stacked pine cones onto the dogs below.
They start to scatter, yelping and losing their scent as each runs into a different path.
The kit laughs mischievously, watching the first wave of a threat disperse.
He lets out an amused scream, wagging his tail as he watches the kits trick.
"Rrrr" 'Wanna play?'
Kitt’s ears immediately perk straight up, as it nods enthusiastically with a yip of agreement!!
With a loud bark a large red ball almost as big as Kitt appears on the ground. He jumps over and slaps it with his tail.
The small fox screeches in excitement, sliding down to chase after the ball with a laughter-like vocalization.
“Kreeeeee!!!! Krrrrrrrrre!!”
Fun thing!!! Red thing!!! Chase.
He runs after it too, using his slightly bigger size to his advantage to reach the ball first, hitting it in a different direction.
He barks and gets in a play postion. The offer is clear. A friendly game of keep away.
Mrp? It play bows back, turns around to chase the ball again. Kitt had to get it!!! Show its fox friend how fast he was!
The two run around, the ball rolling all around the forest as the foxes chase after it and hit it out of each other's way.
After a few minutes of losing the ball, Kitt flips over on the ground, excitedly screaming like they’d been hit! Defeat! Death! Loss!
Ballless.. how could she ever survive….
He lets out a few victorious yips, claiming his win excitedly. He hits the ball one more time then bounds at it, tackling the smaller fox with a playful growl.
The small fox screams excitedly, rolling around on the ground with Hemlock with laughter like yips.
It grabs his muzzle with its mouth affectionately, yipping something about best friends.
He shifts, form becoming that of an armored man who looks to be in his early twenties. His three tails wag happily and he grabs the kit in his arms, pulling them into his lap as he lays in the grass.
"Cuddle attack! You're trapped!"
“Mmmrrrraaaaah!!!”
The kit wiggles around in his arms, bapping him with its paws repeatedly before following suit.
The glow of its tail spreads throughout its body, ending with a mostly human face staring up at the man. Despite their human face, the kid continues yipping in excitement about how fun this all was.
"Awww you're so cute! Hello there little kit." He ruffles their hair. "Thank you for playing with me."
Said kit yips once more, flopping against him and curling up their tail around themself.
“Hi!! You’re friend!”
They wag their tail, screeching at him happily.
The tulikko baps him with a hand one more time, as if checking to be sure he was still there.
He pets their head, scratching behind the ears.
"Yes! Would love to be friends! I'm Hemlock, what's your name?"
They lean into the pets, squeaking.
“Kitty!!! Tulikko named Kitty!!”
Kitty points to themself then their new friend.
“Hemlock! New friend that Kitt loves!”
"Its so good to meet you Kitt. I love you too."
They're so cute. He can't adopt another kit right? No. No he can't, his kids will think they're being replaced or something. Plus he's not even a good father to begin with. He can do friends, friends is good.
The kit yips again, leaning against Hemlock for a small nuzzle.
“Does Hemlock like flowers? flowers flowers flowers?”
They ask, sniffing the air. They were sure there was a patch around here somewhere…
"I love flowers! Roses are my favorite, followed by sunflowers, but they're all great arent they?"
“Yes!!! Sunflowers!! Yellow ones?”
They look behind themself, sniffing the air for the right direction to find the right gift.
"Mhm" He nods. "Is there any other kind?"
“Orange ones too!!”
They climb out of his lap, running on all fours through the forest. There was a field nearby!! A field full of pretty flowers that Hemlock would like!
Kitt stops at the forest edge, beginning to dig up a few sunflower stalks with their hands.
"Oooh yeah!"
He happily follows, dropping on all fours himself as he chases after her. Sniffs the flowers and sighs happily. "Mmmm nice..."
Kit bites the edges of the bouquet off, turning around to offer it to her friend.
“Sunflowers for Hemlock! Pretty ones.”
He takes the flowers with a big smile, tails wagging. "Thank you! These are really pretty."
“Hemlock is very welcome. Kitty picked the best ones! All the gifts for fox friend Hemlock!”
They plop down in the dirt, wagging their tails just as enthusiastically.
"Hmmm I wanna give you a gift too! How about..." Red smoke swirls around his fingers, carefully the smoke swirls into the shape of the flowers and crystalizes. He does this a few times before binding the flowers together in the shape of a crown. "Crystal flower crown!"
The tulikko watches in wonder, wagging his tail.
“Shiny magic!!!”
He giggles. "Yep, shiny magic!" He carefully places the crown on the young tulikko's head.
She yips in excitement, patting the ground with her hands repeatedly.
“Shiny magic, shiny magic, shiny magicccc!!!”
A few sparkles fall off of their tail as they stim, stars themselves dropping to the earth.
“Want have fun with shiny magic friend Hemlock forever!!”
"I don't know about forever but I'm having fun too."
He pets her ears and smiles. They're so cute!
She leans into it, flopping towards him.
“Does Friend Hemlock like…”
They make a thoughtful face, considering what else to share with their new friend.
“Does friend Hemlock like shiny back?”
Head tilt.
He tilts his head curiously.
"I do like shiny. Do you have shiny?"
“Yes!!! Kitt has shiny!!”
She wags her tail, before catching one of the glowing sparkles before it could hit the ground.
They hold it cupped in their hands, before holding it out to Hemlock, now formed into a golden crystalline star.
“Shiny for Hemlock!! Know Hemlock deserves good tulikko luck!”
He smiles, taking the star excitedly. He holds it carefully. It reminds him of his soror, they would probably get along.
"Thank you kit, this is awesome. I love it!"
“It will make Hemlock good luck.”
They explain, yipping happily.
"Really? Well I can always use more luck... thank you very much." Ruffles their hair.
Kit growls playfully, shaking her hair back into place.
“Is welcome!“
They flop back, staring up at the sky.
“Kitty is hungry.”
"Oh are you? What would you like to eat? Anything you want."
They perk up their ears quickly.
“Blueberries!! The kind on the yummy farms where you aren’t allowed to eat them!!!”
He wags his tail, excited by the yummy idea.
"I dont know how to get us stolen blueberries, but I have normal ones."
He snaps his fingers and a large container of blueberries appears.
Her eyes grow wide as she stares at them.
“…Real berries..?”
They ask, looking between Hemlock and the summoned blue berries quickly.
He smiles and nods. "Real berries. Help yourself kit. I can even get you more if you want."
She sits politely a few more seconds, before diving on the blueberry carton. Kit picks out the smallest first, munching on them. Soon she had only the biggest, juiciest ones left!
They split them in half, holding out one side of it to Hemlock with a yip.

~ 🐾🌌
