The synth or vocoder harmony or whatever that kicks in the last ten seconds makes the song worth listening to for ten minutes straight.

This is my official song for rainy days in the fall. The “jangly Oasis sound” that good ol’ Brandon Schlia compared it to really nails it on the head. I have no idea what they’re saying as for lyrics, but in my head, the words have become:
I’m a cig/I’m a dog/watch me stumble burning bridges as I crawl/an eternal head cold/crumpled tissues next to my bed.
But their jangly guitars, muted brit-pop vocals, and overwhelming sense of melancholy make for the autumnal transition to be perfect.

Absolute sleaze from the best Buffalo boiz around. Brimstone Blondes channel this weird schoolboy not-quite innocence with this ripping funk track. From the opening rap and lines like “the arena is filled with the fully devout... do u wanna make out?” you can’t feel but mildly inspired to revisit your gradeschool fantasies. Also since I back the band occasionally and am featured on the recording... I’m only mildly biased. This music video is also absurd. Just a bunch of weird kids from upstate NY.

Just today, I stumbled across this INCREDIBLE kinda live take of a split they did with Andrew Jackson Jihad. Schizophrenic loner pop music that is instantly relatable (FACK). The attention to detail with instrumentation, that beautiful guitar work and tight synth play with deft transitions is inspiring. So much Brian Wilson, so little time. WAITING 4 YR FOLLOW-UP ROAR. PLS.
Woke up this morning with a fever for the Jicks. Brewed a nice pot of coffee, went out for a bogue, then threw on the record. Basically cig and coffee music.
I feel like Mirror Traffic might be Stephen Malkmus’ best work since Pavement. There’s a beautiful focus on minute details with the lyrics. Lines like “I can see the truth/Is wasted on the youth/The parental magic is fading away for now” is one of the highlights that define the headspace that Malkmus is in now–almost 15 years after Pavement. Malkmus has aged gracefully and his guitar work has only become more and more refined. The best way to go about this record is wake up with nothing on your plate, sip on a coffee and smoke a Marb 100.
AW HEck yea DADSTACHE RECZ. Dumb Angel’s newest release coming out of Rochester is gonna be something of str8 beauty.
Think.... a more sedated Wavves with the straightforward side of Yo La Tengo. I’ve listened to this tune way more than I should have.
Things to note--the glockenspiel is a nice touch. Also, the guitar hook is intoxicating. MMMM thx Dadstache.

When Pete Sagar left Mac Demarco to pursue his own ish, Mac’s live show definitely lost some of the smoothness. Well, that went right to Pete and his project HOMESHAKE.
This is some nocturnal, solitary summer music. And it is so smooth. Making a Fool of You takes a bit of a cheesy wah effect and uses it to perfection. Sagar’s falsetto floats over the track like a.... a..... I DON’T KNOW. Its just so smooth......
Uh after meeting the girl behind this project... and realizing she is also the lead singer in Nine of Swords (https://thenineofswords.bandcamp.com/), I was very taken aback (I do love both projects as well). However, if you’re capable of screaming at the top of your lungs over aggro-goth punk and can write twee songs with an edge like this:
“I was the one born with little pink bows drilled into my head” and “I’ve got pies to bake and love to pretend to make” KUDOS TO YOU.
The way this song rips into the methodical cymbal breakdown is one of the most gratifying moments in any recent song I’ve listened to; akin to a harder and angrier version of Birthday Song by Frankie Cosmos. But this song has SO MUCH PENT UP FRUSTRATION. I LOVE IT. People try to lump a lot of things that sound twee-ish together. However, Baby Mollusk breaks the mold by being COOLER, ANGRIER, and STRAIGHT UP PUNKS. Anyone who can write “I was the one born with little pink bows DRILLED INTO MY HEAD” is a force to be reckoned with.

That Summer Feeling by Jonathan Richman captures a moment. And this performance does the same thing. One of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen, someone said to me, “He has the perfect combination of supreme confidence and moderate talent.” That is the perfect way to sum up Jonathan Richman.
Probably try to find the real song though, as well. It’s worth listening to both.
