Am I the only one that doesn’t understand why Lando seemed upset (other than not winning, obviously)? Like it seemed like something with Oscar or am I crazy?

Cause if it was cause of Oscar I’m so confused cause as far as I’m aware the call was never made for Oscar to overtake him, and there was a strong possibility that could’ve happened. After the race he was friendly enough with Max but it didn’t feel like the energy was passed onto Oscar at all. And ofc he’s allowed to be upset about the result but like I said it didn’t feel like that was what it was about.

And if it was because of the possibility of Oscar overtaking him and then (though there was a small probability it would happen) overtake Max when Lando couldn’t and win, I still don’t get it. he seemed fine last week with Oscar winning in China but suddenly not now.

do I think it was a bit silly that they didn’t try earlier when it could’ve been easier to switch and then switch back to their original positions? Yes.

am I f1 strategist? No.

I am, however, someone that likes to call people out on their bullshit, and I think that McLaren saying there isn’t a “second driver” (there always is) is detrimental to how that team works. Oscar has proved he can keep up with Lando and I think that’s great. It’s always good to have a teammates that pushes each other to be better.

But, that also requires the team to facilitate an environment where the drivers feel supported to push one another without it being an attack on their standing within the team, which (to me at least), is what I think was going through Lando’s mind. McLaren has what it takes to win both WDC and WCC, I think if they keep lying to their drivers and themselves about this “no second driver” thing, they will fumble it all.
