Stitchery and Hoopla

In desperate need to replace my dearly-loved kitschy wallet that was literally crumbling, yet not able to find anything that I would be willing to spend money on, I decided to make my own with whatever fabric I already had for free.

Beloved wallet falling to bits. So sad.

I ended up being able to follow this bi-fold wallet tutorial (amazing for a terrible seamstress, like myself), and hauling out this awful home decor fabric that I had ordered many years ago with the original intent of making a tote bag. The patterns were WAY bigger than what I had imagined when I placed the order. When they arrived, I thought they were hideous and hid them in a closet in hopes that they’d return themselves. Fortunately/unfortunately, they never did. So I brought them out to see the light of day once more since I didn’t have fusible interfacing that would allow me to use any of my stash of pretty fabric for this wallet. Turns out, the heavy-weight fabric was still ugly.

After the eye-sore fabrics were cut and folded into pieces, this wallet ended up being far cuter than I had imagined. Of course, I had to include my novice signature of wavy lines, and I accidentally (though, appropriately) ended up using the piece with the decapitated bird for the outside of the wallet instead of for the liner. That being said, this is not the worst sewing project I’ve ever done. Especially since I haven’t used my sewing machine in an incredibly long time.

With roller derby retirement and summer coming to an end, I decided to unlock my craft closet and, after the dust storm settled, laid eyes on alllll the mostly-/ half-/not-even-close finished projects I had in store for myself.
