Historically purple was a color only used by the rich and royalty.
In a lot of Europe wearing it when you weren't a memebers if the royal family was frowned on. Hence why Anne Boleyn wearing it before Henry and Catherine's marriage was over was such a scandal.
How ever the church (specifically the catholic one) were allowed to wear it if you were a bishop or higher in the clergy. So in turn purple is a color often associated with Saints in the Catholic faith.

I've seen people say 'well the boss killed Jessica and Mr Sunshine and they were just following orders" but nah, both were adults making their own twisted choices.
Or "The boss being upset about Aisha when they killed Jessica is hypocritical" but its not really. Aisha stayed outta gang business and wouldn't even let them use her house as a hideout, Jessica was actively involved with the Brotherhood and had Carlos killed.
Also it really makes the fact Matt is a love intrest in 4 super gross.
Like yeah he's an adult now, but when the boss met him, they were at minimum late 20s and Matt was a kid.
Yeah there's a reason why I never romance Matt, its just..icky

I’m working on an All Flesh Must Be Eaten Halloween one shot adventure using Saints Row, and have been premaking characters for my players to pick from. Figured I’d share what I’ve got at the moment.
I see people constantly talk about symbolism of Saints' color choice, but something I never see people discuss is the in-universe reasons? How Saints are actually using the same color as the local sports team in Stilwater, Stilwater Sharks, and how essentially Saints are just some kids wearing their favorite sports team's jersey?

Yes and no?
I think that Jules mentorship of the boss started from a place of good intentions. But as we all know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions- and at some point the power got to his head, leading to the down fall of the gang and the ultimate betrayal of the boss. I think that while, yes Jules saw the boss as an underling- he genuinely saw the potential in them and had full intentions of making them a proper equal. I mean hell, he kind of did right before he got arrested.
With Phillip, i think he saw the sisters as people who has the potential to be his equal, and wanted to crush that. He took them under his wing because he didn't want any potential competition in the future. He gave them just enough so that they never properly saw through his lies and deciet.
Idk i guess a shorter way to put this is Jules promised the world with the intention to give it. Phillip promised the world with the intentions to take it away.

Honestly sometimes we give a lot of slack to Volition for writing bad Saints Row games because every once in a while there will be a fan who will have a "perfect fix" for the series, and its just the most horrible shit you've ever read. Like what the fuck is this?
Boss is just sitting at a bar drinking a beer and having flashbacks of how Nahualli used to run his cartel 10 years before Boss was even born. I have no idea how this works, but depth!
In the middle of this flashback Boss gets interrupted with information that Neenah passed from cancer because why not

I wonder if the character's outfit is a possible Easter egg referencing Johnny Gat? The pinstripe suit. The purple. That specific shade of purple! Paired with the same voice actor. It just seems like too much to be a coincidence.

i wanted to make this post a while ago but can’t remember if i ever did but here it is anyway. the sr1 cast are far more relatable to me as a broke young adult than the reboot cast ever could be. the reboot cast need to pay off their student loans, but to me, going to university already seems like a privilege? whereas the sr1 kids genuinely like. have to fight to make something out of what they’ve got. they come from one of the poorest districts in the city and they can’t remove themselves from their upbringing. it makes them who they are, but they also have to carry that stigma everywhere they go. like is it any surprise that being in the saints gives johnny a purpose, and when they change beyond recognition, he fails to change with them? grabbing you and shaking you

working on a carlos section to add to my saints board and i have to say. the juxtaposition of religious imagery alongside homoeroticism is really quite beautiful
cannot even begin to describe how fucking sad volition's closure is,,the saints row franchise has been, and still remains, a very important part of my life and i am extremely grateful for the creative outlet and comfort the series has brought me over the years.
