Plot

Jenna the Sphinx travels to Kansas to help deal with an entity that has been corrupting civilizations one small town and city at a time. While there she runs into Ned, a small-time musician who had returned home to find out who murdered his brother. Together they practice magic to fight off the entity until they find its source, and it’s taken over by the college students of Fort Sandy.

Unaffected by its influence Ned infiltrates their gang, convincing them he wants to join so he can investigate the vehicles they’re using in their elegant races down the old pass. Once he discovers one of the cars was the murder weapon that killed his brother he challenges the driver to a race, determined to get revenge. His rage blinds him and gets him killed and Jenna tries to bring him back but he ends up turning into the undead.

Despite all that he manages to naturally use his new found abilities to wipe the entity out of Fort Sandy with Jenna in charge. Unfortunately after that he realizes he can’t live a normal life considering he is now a ghoul so he joins Jenna in hopes of reversing his form. Along the way he and Jenna make allies as well as bring along Ned’s grandad and old friend against the ghoul’s protests.

Born in the 1500's Ireland, Caelin was raised in a tribe that still practiced druid magics. He was born female but lived his life as a man once leaving his family to start his own farmstead. The village he lived in came to him for herbal medicines and prayers to the gods at his alter. Unfortunately as he aged well into his 60's the village moved on from the way of the fae as the way of the church made it's place in their lives. Caelin was at peace with this until a priest with ungodly intentions takes up the responsibility of erecting a chapel. This man was wicked, instilling fear in the locals when a dreadful drought struck the harvest and peoples started dying. Making them believe they had to turn to god for forgiveness and slave over making the chapel to win god's favor. When the crops failed to grow the priest placed blame on Caelin, revealing his identity as a transgender man. The people were convinced into imprisoning him for a sacrifice, the priest having him crucified and flayed. Drinking his blood in an attempt to repeat a christian ritual. However a stroke of lightening set the chapel on fire, and Caelin's corpse reanimates to rescue the locals from the flames. The priest tries to kill him a second time, but gets his liver ripped out by a very hungry revenant. Once the chapel was left to become ash, the locals chose to worship Caelin out of fear. However he rejected the life of a god, leaving the village to roam Ireland as an undying weapon, protecting the forest and mortals who were worth saving. He has fought in many wars, watched many loved ones pass away and finds it difficult to socialize, so choses not to.
