ok this is most likely old and accepted analysis i won't be adding anything new to the conversation for a game that's as old as i am but like. Castle Oblivion is Hell. right. that's not a joke about the gameplay but as in like. nine circles kind of hell. 13 levels of breaking down these kids and making them feel insecure and small and stupid. i mean everyone's straight up trying to gaslight sora its crazy and poor riku is dealing with constant visions of the man who ended his and his friend's childhoods (there is a whole other post i could make about riku and ansem) like it's torment. for ALL the kids involved actually, namine only knowing how to be manipulated and manipulator (her last lines with sora kill me, her guilt trips are incredible i love it so much) and repliku only allowed to exist as a person they don't want to be, (🏳️‍⚧️) forced to perpetuate riku's previous role as servant, as puppet, do what i tell you or be nothing at all.

but also puberty and growing up is just kind of like that and that's what CoM is, the liminal hallway between kh1's playtime gone wrong and kh2's teenage angst. awesome game it absolutely kicked my ass
