There’s nothing quite like spending a night beside a lake and being there at sunrise to watch the reawakening.  Llynnau Mymbyr is a magical place for a calm and quiet sunrise.  Misty wraiths rise upwards as light and colour return, pulling life to the surface and then disappearing.  Life rising, mesmerising.   Those wraiths don’t hang around.

Hawthorns seem to  suddenly appear on Dartmoor.  When they do appear the landscape changes, the feel is more of an ecosystem than than a landscape.  The feeling is as if you’re being allowed into their environment rather than walking through on the assumption that you can do. The Adoration of Trees #4

This gnarly old rowan still clings to life, at least horizontally. I’ve passed this way many times over the years and it has never changed or deteriorated.  Each spring there is some very small new growth so I’m not sure whether is is clinging on or if this is just economy of effort.  The heather is particularly colourful right now and bilberries in profusion.

I don’t like calimas, they can turn Canary world into a desaturated, dust-coated bore.  Usually they do, but this one, though heavy, brought some interesting effects as the sun was trying to pierce the gloom.  Day turned to a sort of pink/beige wash and the sea carried on breathing, spindrift and all.  I was pleased for the spindrift because the breeze was steady and eventually won it’s battle…
