The Blues Issue. Yet another crowd pleasing band who strummed, banged and blew out a great set at Swanage Blues Festival this weekend. Like most of these bands you have to see them live to really appreciate. Support Live Music
Another great blues band seen this weekend at Swanage Blues Festival. Two hours of mostly high energy blues.
More from Lorna, Jules and the guys of Northsyde. Shit hot stuff. Must be seen live.
Saw these guys at this weekends Swanage Blues Festival. Great set with some sublime vocals from Lorna plus great guitar both lead and bass. Gonna have to see these guys again soon. This is one they included in the set, a superb take on an Allman Brothers classic.

Looking forward to seeing Martin live again sometime next year. Amazing.
And another great Scott McKeon jam.
Just.....yeah!!!
My new favourite from songbird Hannah Robinson.
Well that was a concert with a difference. Gig last night with Pete Brown’s Newgrass Cutters at the Tivoli, Wimborne. In a nutshell these guys entertained us with a large selection of covers from multiple genres and eras………but in a bluegrass style. With music from artists as diverse as The Dooble Brothers, Police, Jean Michel Jarre, Jimi Hendrix, Kylie Minogue, The Who, Sylvester, Heatwave, George Harrison, The Specials, Steppenwolf and Elvis Presley, and genres also including Hip-Hop and Electronica, there was no shortage of bluegrass ear candy. Impressive arrangements and plenty of energy and fun. Believe me when I say you haven’t lived until you’ve heard Voodoo Chile played on a wah-wah enabled mandolin and accompanied by Banjo and Double Bass. Oh man…..pass the mushrooms. Sound strange. Trust me it worked. Brilliantly.

A wonderful couple of sets performed last night by Hannah Robinson at the Thomas Tripp in Christchurch. A great mix of originals and covers, this young ladies delightfully quirky vocals have a clarity and tone that continues to enchant me. Add to that a talent for writing some memorable songs, and her apparently effortless percussive style guitar work (some great foot tapping grooves and riffs in there) and you have an evening of music you just don’t want to end. My third time of seeing and listening to Hannah, and it will certainly not be my last. If you like Contemporary Folk / Pop / Americana then please see and support this young lady.
And now the negatives. In keeping with my ‘grumpy old git’ reputation, I must say that I have never understood why people will sit right on top of a musician and talk and shout at each other during the performance. Way too much background noise last night, and mostly from people close to the stage. If you don’t want to listen to the music then please SIT ELSEWHERE or GO HOME. There was plenty of room at the Tripp last night away from the stage to sit and talk. End negatives.
Local girl (Dorset, UK) producing some magical sounds.
Wow!! What a voice.
Saw these guys last night at the Tivoli, Wimborne. I thought it would be strange when I first booked this. I mean a slide guitarist and a double bassist teamed up; I just couldn't imagine it. However, if you love listening to great Blues and Americana then I thoroughly recommend you see these guys while they are currently on tour. Incredible skill and sound (this video does not do the live sound justice).
Last one from Madeleine Peyroux (for now). Just an out and out bit of fun this one.
Sweet young thing of sixteen Thought I'd step out one night I longed to get the thrilling life i've missed I met a youth A bit uncouth Although he seemed alright I knew him by the moment when we kissed Then I got home, next day with a swollen head My girlfriend asked if i'd had fun I said, "was I drunk? was he handsome? Did momma give me hell? Did I get a thrill? Am I full of quiver? Was he rough? Did I care? Am I glad I fell? Every time I think of him do I shiver? Was he hot? And was I? And would he stand for maybe? He would not? Did I lie? Does he still think i'm a baby? If I was, am I still? Do I care? Don't be silly Was I drunk? Was he handsome? And did momma give me hell? Was I drunk? Was he handsome? Did momma give me hell? With his hands loose as no refusin' Did he fight? Was I blue? Almost shamed to tell And I don't know yet the system he was usin' Well I said, stop, please, behave! Well what's the use of breathin'? He said, give So I gave After all, what was I savin'? Am I glad? Holy gee, Have I had fun, you're askin' me? Was I drunk? Was he handsome? And did momma give me hell?"

Madeleine Peyroux performing "The Kind You Can't Afford". Soul flavoured jazz at its very best. Great lyrics.
You got palatial mansions I got a rented flat You got Persian kittens I got tabby cat You got art collections I got comic books You use plastic surgery I stay the way I look You travel private jet I stand by overnight You romance with chandeliers And I use candlelight Oh, there's one thing I got more When I'm rich, you're poor Is that real good loving The kind you can't afford While you're enjoying banquets I'm eating cafe snacks You're in designer clothing I'm in plastic Macs Sipping on Napoleon Brandy I'm slinging a can of beer Packing matching luggage I'm mostly staying here Your educated accent Might beat the local slang Don't bet your staff and the servants Against my backstreet gang 'Cause there's one thing I got more When I'm rich, you're poor Is that real good loving The kind you can't afford Your dinner jackets and your ballroom gowns No warmer than my jeans Caviar No more filling than a can of beans Go to your classic concert I'll be with a local band You'll get brand new everything I'll keep my second hand Ain't no new fitted bathroom Got my water tap You think I'm full of envy? I know where the money's at Oh, there's one thing I got more When I'm rich, you're poor Is that real good loving The kind you can't afford It's the kind you It's the kind you can't afford It's the kind It's the kind you can't afford You got palatial mansions I got rented flat Persian kittens I got a tabby cat Cruising in a new Mercedes I'm broke down in a Ford You're out on your new yacht I'm out on my surfing board Ooh, surfing board
