To Recent PR Anon. I like your analysis.
One thing up top: I think Luke has the same PR reps but switched up his talent agents. How he is still with his original PR team is beyond me. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s still Multitude. Holly White is also represented by them. And I believe Emily has been following A for a while after the shit hit the fan early on.
Anyway. I was surprised to see this breakdown because recently I went back to look for some of the original PR Anons (maybe you are one?) that were so accessible in the aftermath of papgate, which was nuts if you weren’t here for that. A lot of it was on mpov’a blog. I appreciated the professional pov, which proves this was a huge debacle and the pros were following closely.
For all the people now who say shit like, oh you’re living in the past, get over yourself, you’re just a hater, you’re stuck in a fantasy because you wanted him to date Nic or you weren’t picked in high school, or just let him live his life, etc - go back and read these assessments. They still hold up and you have to wonder what on earth Luke is doing, what his team is doing, and what exactly is and has gone on behind the scenes. Because it still doesn’t make sense.
Filter it through things anon mentioned, like the gelato and ocean pics and the blocked out forks and matching suntans and changing belly, and the timing of “just friends” and the Boss debut, of “heya” and drink your milk, Nic off grid during HOM, Luke at her play, brb and Glamour, laughing in split the g, A’s vantage point at the 1975 concert, A’s demeanor at the NY premiere, A taking down Luke pics in exchange for Nic’s follow, and all the obvious appearances at everything Luke attends, the SAGs and Bafta weekend.
I read a lot recently and still have plenty to go from various sources, but just look at these three discussions posted below at the end. They still seem to hold. One PR Anon described it (Luke and his situation) as more than a PR professional would deal with in their entire career! And that was two years ago and we’re still here.
To the Anon’s direct question, if you were advising what would you do?
If it were me, this would be my advice:
1. Stop taking your gf-“gf” Eve where. You don’t look like your own man. It comes off as insecure and it precludes you from connecting with potential work sources if you’re always otherwise occupied wherever you go. Be seen with your friends and colleagues.
2. Stop posting at the beach like you’re unemployed or a party boy. It’s tone deaf and immature and doesn’t show casting agents you’re hungry.
3. Decide if your IG is personal or professional, or correct the perception that you created saying it was professional. People actually like à mix. You want to get away from Colin but most of your fan base is Bridgerton so show your personal life more so people can’t distinguish you from your character and not get pissed because you’re not Colin. Show them who Luke is so they can make the adjustment.
4. Post yourself on the way to auditions, your team’s offices, reading scripts, taking acting classes, guitar lesson, practicing tap or other forms of dance. Shit, dance with your dancer gf. Do some grwm’s while on your way to networking events or your colleague’s performances, or your try-on sessions with Holly.
5. You’re a singer with a gorgeous voice and a musical project coming up. Let’s see some covers, some bts studio time, you warming up, goosing with your other guy friends, or belting out the songs from your target musical theatre productions. You think abs drive the women wild? They do but your voice makes them melt. Get on it.
6. Get involved in charitable work. You have a very obvious one in adhd/dyslexia. Tom Cruise is vocal about it, you can be too. You like football, start à kids camp with scholarships. Gaming is your thing? Turn it into something social or target the angles that overlap with your profession. You like the slow life, Mediterranean pace of life, hold some kind of fundraising retreat their, have a panel, invite your acute celebrity friends, think up ideas or themes that would bring people together there for a good cause. Do these things under the radar for a year or so and then roll them out on your socials.
6. Bridgerton is your current meal ticket. Get onboard. Like and share their posts, support your costars’ every move including Nic, go do things with them off hours, get onboard with Shonda and Netflix and do the same. Your network is everything. No one thinks you should only be Colin so stop worrying about that. All your colleagues will go I. To do more things and expand their own networks and you could benefit from that. After Rory and A, it looks like iou only spend time with A, which is not what you’re going for.
7. If A is your gf, love her loudly and smile for God’s sake. If you’re going to parade her around and look taken, then be smitten and devoted and committed, because that is actually hot. If N is your wife and you have a family, then pay whatever price you must to extricate yourself from A personally and legally. She is not loved by your fans and never will be if you stay the course. Whatever the considerations were for the PR arrangement, overcoming them is preferable to the status quo. You and Nic would be ancray power couple out in the open and if there were things to forgive, they would be forgiven.
8. Along the lines of #6, reconnect publicly with Nic. The fans love you largely because you love Nic. Not entirely, but a lot. Recommence your am interactions. Give us the season series. Go have coffee or to a concert or a play or to the boardwalk. It won’t kill your image. It will enhance it. Don’t concern yourself with shipping; it doesn’t actually matter personally and it actually helps professionally at this point.
9. Take smaller roles if you can get them. Don’t wait for lead roles. Try to get bit parts with great directors or writers. Swallow hard, it didn’t work out how you thought it would, but you are crazy talented, objectively beautiful, a kind soul with an arresting combination of intensity, vulnerability, charm, sensitivity, sex appeal, and physical form. No one is going to miss that. But you have to get on screen for people to see it. So start small, keep going, and prove yourself. Casting directors are just people and they will see it too. Good luck and get going.
