Stephanie Brown

rough sketches, messing around & looking for an easily animateable style that… isn’t totally timm/dcau. idk how i manage it but i always have this feeling like a) i am really inconsistent and have no style of my own and b) everything i draw looks the same

Since this Smallville thing happened, I keep reading how mean dc is to make Bryan choose Babs for the book to replace Steph.

A bunch of people decide I must have made it happen even though I only found out about when you did.

Today, Bryan told me it was his idea to use Babs, when asked to replace Steph. I don’t know where this stuff all comes from but it gets a little frustrating sometimes, separating fact from fiction.

I am not sure why he chose Babs instead of Cass or Helena, but I know the kind of person and writer he is and deliberately upsetting people is not his style at ALL. He loves you guys and wants to do right by you and the characters.

It’s still disappointing about him not being able to use Steph, but if he chose Babs to replace her, I am betting he had an angle he thought would be cool.

Ladies and Gentlemen - It’s DONE! Robin is FINISHED!

DC held its “All Access” panel at the Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) and it dropped a few tidbits according to Bleeding Cool including the status of Stephanie Brown in the new 52.

As you remember DC has provided a number of updates on Stephanie Brown, the female character who has appeared as Spoiler, Batgirl and Robin a number of times since the company announced the reboot:

In July they stated at their road show she was “benched”

Then in September at the Toronto Comic Con she was announced by Dan Didio as coming back as Spoiler.

That was likely a reference to her appearance in Batman, Inc. Leviathan Strikes where she was supposed to appear as Spoiler in the new 52 but it was decided that she would be Batgirl in the pre52. 

And as recently as WonderCon two weeks ago, Kyrax2, asked about the status of Stephanie Brown and Cass Cain and was told by Scott Snyder that everyone “loved” the characters (Cass Cain and Stephanie Brown) the decision was above the creator level. Eddie Berganza said to “watch for Batman, Inc.”

But yesterday someone above the creator level, Batman head editor Mike Marts, provided some direct answers for the audience about the status of Stephanie Brown:

Q: How’s the post-Steph Brown Batman, Inc. transition going?

A: We’re not allowed to talk about that.

Q: Will Steph Brown be back any time soon?

A: Nope.

Q: Why isn’t Steph Brown considered a Robin any more?

A: Willingham: I’m so glad I don’t have to answer that one. Martz:(sic) Steph is close to my heart, close to all of our hearts. But for the moment we’re staying away from her.

So there you have it. Don’t hold your breath on seeing Stephanie Brown in the “New 52” in the near future. 

Could it change? Sure but given that there have apparently been efforts to “unbench” the character it won’t be soon.
