Pulled by the Moonlight

If you know me well, you know that I am very passionate about gun control.  I know first hand the effect of gun violence in my family. I’m having a tough time processing what’s going on in my family this week and wanted an outlet for their story. 

9 years ago this week, my family got the worst news that we had to go through.  My loving Uncle Frank DeSena was shot and killed at a poker club in Manhattan.  He was the most wonderful, fun, and caring man. He took great care of his son Sean and wife Kris.  They have never been the same.  It’s been 9 years and they are not the same. They have not healed.  This is not something that allows you to heal and come back to normalcy.  This is devastation.

Aunt Kris’ sadness manifested into serious health problems.  I believe she didn’t have it in her heart to take care of herself.  Her heart was and remains broken.  Her health problems haven’t gotten better.  My mother does everything she can to take care of Kris, taking her to several doctor appointments out of state, helping manage her finances, and making sure she’s getting the help she needs.  But without the will to take care of herself, it is hard for Aunt Kris to stay healthy.

October 23, 2016 we got news that Aunt Kris was non-responsive.  She was found on her couch lifeless and murmuring.  I was with my parents and brother when we got the news and we all went to the hospital to see her together. At the hospital, we discovered her brain was bleeding.  That gun from 2007 still makes it’s way through my family.  That bullet isn’t done taking blood.
