It was so hard keeping the pregnancy a secret, but I was able to explain away certain things, such as-
Morning sickness? It was heartburn!
Feeling tired? I didnât sleep well the night before as how I was reading a really good book!
I was peeing a lot? I had begun to drink more tea to try and flush out my systems!
And so on, so forth. Luckily, the girls didnât seem to notice me getting in new clothes and shoes or me avoiding seafood like the plague. Aria had walked in on her father making a crib, but he had lied and told her that the crib was for someone else.
In the meantime, I was slowly starting to bond with Eleanore, starting with baking chocolate peanut butter brownies with her at midnight to letting her borrow my childhood Trixie Beldon books.
I knew that Eleanore wouldnât warm up to me overnight, and I respected her taking her time getting to know her fatherâs wife better.
âEleanore, I understand if you donât want for me to be your mother,â I told her while I was tucking her in for bed one night. âBut will you allow me to be your friend?â
Her smile was all the response that I needed.
~xoXox~
âOkay, is there anything else you need?â I asked Eleanore, pausing before I checked out of shopping online for Eleanore. In my cart were jeans, long sleeved and sort sleeved t-shirts, sweaters, underwear, sundresses, camisoles, socks, two pairs of converse shoes and bandanaed headbands.
âWhen will I start school?â she asked me timidly.
âNot until the fall,â I told her with a gentle hum. âYou will go to Saint Claireâs Academy for Young Ladies. The twins go there, and so your father and I both think that sending you there will be beneficial. Registration has already closed for the school, and the twins only got in this late because Queen Annette the elder called in a favor at her Almer Mater. Peter and I wonât test our luck and ask to enroll you this late into the school year.â
âOkay.â She relaxed a bit more. âWill I need to wear a uniform to Saint Claireâs?â
âYes, but we can order your uniform when the new school year grows closer,â I told her in a reassuring tone of voice. âIâm getting the feeling that you will sprout up some and put on a bit more weight between now and September.â
Eleanore had gained probably about five pounds in the first week since she arrived at Green Leaf Hall and was beginning to fill out her tattered, falling apart at the seams clothes. I had held off on asking her if she needed any clothes, noticing that she carried a tattered baby blankie with her everywhere she went.
âMay I?â I asked her, holding out a gentle hand for her baby blankie, which she handed over hesitantly. âOh my- this is falling apart! Would you like me to show you how to patch this up?â
âWould you really?â she breathed, brightening up. âYou wonât destroy it?â
âNo, never!â I gaped at her with horror in my eyes. âEleanore, I would never do such a thing. I promise you.â
A shy smile crept onto her face as I examined the scrap of fabric.
âI will need to add in more fabric to repair these holes,â I continued to prattle on. âGo and have a look at my fabric stash and pick out fabric that you like, okay?â
She went over to the shelf that housed much of my fabric stash, a bright turquoise blue cubicle housing scraps of fabric from the dozens of little sewing projects I had done since moving into the small estate.
I frowned at the layers of dirt that coated her beloved blankie, and I decided that the first order of business would be to draw a gentle bath and soak the baby blankie for twenty minutes before gently wringing out the excess water and carefully scrubbing using an old toothbrush and a generous amount of Oxiclean.
âCan you have Blankie ready by bedtime tonight?â Eleanore asked me in a slightly more bolder tone of voice. âIâve never spent a night without it.â
âIâm afraid that repairing Blankie wonât be a simple case of stitch and sew and then wham bam presto!â I explained. âI would like to give Blankie a bath and gently scrub away the dirt and grime. The whole thing should take two or three days, tops.â
âOh.â Here, Eleanore looked sad. âIâve never spent a night without Blankie.â
âWell, I think you can go to bed with Blankie each night, youâll just need to be careful,â I told her, chuckling as she decided on letting me work on her much beloved Blankie, tailing behind me as I went downstairs into the laundry room, where I filled a collapsible bucket with cool water from the work sink. I dumped in a healthy cupful of Oxiclean for delicate before submerging the baby blankie.
Twenty minutes later, I dumped the bucket and brought it with the blankie inside into the kitchen, where I had Eleanore find me an old toothbrush. I carefully wrung out the comfort item before spreading it out onto the kitchen island over a towel.
I had showed Eleanore how to carefully scrub her Blankie, not being able to hide my smile at witnessing her joy and determination at cleaning her Blankie all by herself.
âMommy had my name and birthdate embroidered into this corner,â she told me, showing me the fading Eleanore Sage Harkler, September 4th. Her birthyear was faded to the point where I couldnât make it out, only the faint whispered of where it had been.
âWe share a birthday,â I revealed. âSeptember fourth. Your father and the twins also share a birthday- January fourth.â
âOh,â was all that she said, focusing entirely on her task at hand. âWhat did you do you your birthday last year?â
âNothing really,â I shrugged. âYour father brought me flowers and the girls made pizza from scratch. Then Peter surprised me with a book on Egyptian mythology and the girls made me a little teddy bear.â
âAnd what did they do for their birthday?â she asked next, moving the toothbrush to a different area.
âWell, the girls went to school, and Peter and I both spent much of the day reading out loud to one another and working on little house projects,â I lied. âAnd then, just before the girls came back home again, we all went out to Tennyâs Burgers for dinner and went to a small sweets shop for desert before returning back home again, getting changed into our pajamas and then watching a movie. Really easy, nothing big and fancy.â
âJust the way the family likes it?â Eleanore asked.
âJust the way the family like it,â I confirmed, flitting my hand up against my still flat tummy.

âAnd now, we wait,â I announced, setting the four pregnancy tests onto the bathroom counter before curling up into my husbandâs kingly warmth from his spot in the tub.
âI really want you to be pregnant sweetheart,â Peter confessed with a chuckle, his hand on my flat tummy.
âAs lovely as it would be for me to be pregnant this shortly, I donât think the family is ready,â I confessed before quickly explaining my thoughts. âEleanore is the recent addition and I donât want her to feel like sheâs being overwritten in favor of the new baby.â
âAh okay.â He pressed a whiskery kiss to the top of my head. âBut what if you are pregnant?â
âWhat else is there to do my love?â I checked my phone and saw that only nineteen seconds had passed. âI will love our little jellybean with everything I have. No exceptions.â
âBut if you arenât pregnant, what then?â Peterâs hands began to wandered about me, clearly indication the frisky mood that he was currently under. âIf you arenât pregnant, then how long do you want to wait until we try again?â
âNot until Eleanore feels more at home,â I said sternly. âPoor dear is already a bundle of nervous energy while she tries to discover which role sheâll fulfill while living here.â
âSheâll play the role as the reining kingâs daughter,â he said in a fierce tone of voice. âSweetheart, sheâs technically the nationâs princess.â
My stomach dropped.
âEven having been born out of wedlock?â I asked in a breathy whisper.
âEven having been born out of wedlock,â he confirmed. âSheâs currently not in line to inherit the throne after I die though. But Iâve been writing a new law to be passed on introducing adopted children of the royal monarch to princehood and princesshood. Itâs just waiting to be passed and then the twins can also be deemed as royalty. So technically, Aria is next in line, followed by Evie and then Eleanore, in that precise order.â
âMy love, with the girls need to come out to society as a matter of speaking?â I fretted, nibbling at my lower lip.
âNot if youâre not comfortable with it,â he told me. âThe most that will happen is that the daily newspaper with say something like their royal highnesses, the Princesses Aria, Evie and Eleanore and then so on and so forth.â
âOh okay,â I agreed with a hum, glancing down at my phone again.
34 seconds remaining
âSweetheart, I love you,â bubbled out from the king all of a sudden. âI love how youâre an incredible mother not just to the twins, but also to Eleanore. I love how you allow them to be independent and give them space to explore and discover, but yet at the same time how youâre never too far away to defend and offer love and kisses.â
âI can only try my hardest,â I shrugged, moving to grab the four tests from the counter as my phone let out a cheerful chirp, indicating that the two minutes had since passed.
I took a deep inhale of air in through my nose and held it as I held the collect of tests up.

PREGNANT
+
YOU ARE PREGNANT
âOh my god.â Tears began to bubble in my eyes as I turned and buried my face into his chest.
âWeâre pregnant,â laughed the king, joy and love oozing from every visible pore. He tugged up my t-shirt and beamed down at my tummy. âI love you little jellybean.â
I was smiling so wide that my cheeks felt like they were going to split as Peter swept me to nestle against his chest as he stood and left the bathroom, tucking the tests into a random drawer on my side of the double sink vanity. Peter tucked me into bed, a happy smile threatening to never leave as he doted over me.
âMy love? Can you hold off on telling the girls?â I asked him as my eyelids began to droop. âI just really want the family to focus on Eleanore for a while.â
âOf course I can,â he told me, peeling back the blankets over on his side of the bed before getting into bed as well. âIâll also want to get you in for a prenatal doctorâs appointment soon. I want to be certain that my baby is growing safe and warm with all ten fingers and all ten toes.â
âItâs a bit too soon to see the babyâs finger and toes to count them my love,â I pointed out dryly, mewling as I wriggled myself into his burly chest. âYou wonât be able to see to count the royal babyâs fingers and toes until week twelve, if I remember correctly.â
âOh. Right.â he coughed back his clear embarrassment. âWell, youâll have to teach me all about how to care for you as your pregnancy progresses. I want to know everything. Like, what did you crave with the twins?â
âFresh fruit like berries,â I told him as sleep started to overtake me. âBut I wasnât always able to afford it so I would go to bed with my cravings keeping me up. And when I was able to splurge a little bit, I would get a giant big bag of fruit then savor it. I would be able to make a bag of mixed berries last at least a week.â
âWell sweetheart, I will purchase get you all the berries youâd want,â he reassured me, sweetly kissing my temple. âI insist- let me pamper and spoil my woman, yeah? You are carrying my child. I love you sweetheart.â

Once little girl was safe and settled in at the Ratajczyk house, I began to prep for dinner- breaded chicken breasts, vegetable soup and seasoned bread rolls. In the meantime, my clingy husband demanded my pussy and kisses.
âOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH YES DADDY JUST LIKE THAT JUSTLIKETHATâŚ-â I gasped as my pussy spasmed, milking my husbandâs cock dry as we both orgasmed at the same exact moment of time. âFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKâŚ!â
âFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKâŚâ Peter snarled, his hand cupping the back of my head delicately as he begun to furiously jackhammer his naked cock in and out of me at a breakneck speed once more. âI love you.â KISS âI love you.â KISS âI love you.â KISS âI love you.â KISS âI love you.â KISS âI love you.â KISS âI love you.â KISS âI love you.â KISS
âI love you too, my love,â I mewled breathlessly, my head lolling backwards and giving Peter the chance to pepper my skin with hungry kisses.
âPapa Pete? Mama Wen Wen?â
Peter pulled away, pressing a sweet kiss to my temple while he was righting my panties and stuffing his cock back into his jeans. Just in time too, as how the small child wandered into the kitchen just then, her little clothe dollie clutched tightly in her hands.
âWhatâs for dinner?â she wondered as she came up to us and held up an arm, clearly demanding to be picked up.
âHello little girl!â Peter crooned as he bought the girl in for a quick cuddle with her beloved godfather and mommy.
âWe are having breaded chicken breasts, vegetable soup and seasoned bread rolls for dinner tonight,â I hummed, gently tracing the delicate features of her tiny baby nose.
âMama Wen Wen, chickens have boobies?â she asked me innocently, causing for Peter to wheeze. âDo chickens give their babies mommy milk too?â
âOh no little girl, chicken do not work like that!â I chuckled as she squinted at me, flicking her slender braids over her shoulder before resting her head onto my shoulder.
âWhy not?â she meeped curiously.
âChickens don't give milk because they are birds, not mammals, and therefore lack the necessary needs to produce milk,â I told her. âOnly mammals can produce milk to feed their young.â
âOh.â She frowned slightly before deciding that she understood my explanation with a little shrug of her shoulders. âOkay.â
I pressed a motherly kiss to her temple before getting down and beginning to start of getting dinner prepped to pop into the oven.
~xoXox~
âI canât wait for faire!â little girl was chattering happily as we all sat at the dining room table. âItâs going to be so awesome!â
âWhat will be so special about this yearâs faire?â Katie wondered as she nibbled at her soup.
âI just really love faire!â she giggled happily, peering off to the side as Daisy wandered into the dining room. âI love all the pretty dresses, and I love all the fun activities, and I love watching Papa Bear!â
âAh yes, good old Papa Bear,â droned Katie with a wicked glint in her soft brown eyes. âWith his flamboyant take on popular songs of today and playful banterings with the crowd and him being a sassy diva with mommy- just another day in the life of a faire attendee!â
âYay yay,â little girl cheered quietly to herself before finishing up her chicken. âYay yay.â
âPeter, why donât you drop me off at her house tomorrow when youâre driving the kids to school, and I can pack a suitcase for her?â Aaron had suffered a nasty concussion and whiplash, while James had earned a few broken bones and an all access ticket to being grumpy and snappish with people around him.
âCan you please get my special blankie?â little girl requested, bursting into a sweet smile when I promised her that I would do so for her. âThank you, Mama Wen Wen!â
âMommy, mesies wantsies more bwead!â whined Baby Jojo, settling when Baby Mattie gave her his bread roll. âTank you!â
I smiled at sweet Baby Mattie, who always seem to be taking care of his younger siblings, and then my attention was caught by sweet Baby Eve, who was playing with her spoon and bread roll.
âI love my babies,â I confessed happily as I was wiping down the counters and Peter was doing the dishes. âTheyâre just so cute, and huggable, and squishy, and kissableâŚâ
âAnd I agree completely with you on that sweetheart,â Peter told me as he was elbow deep into sudsy bubbles. âDaddy loves his babies too.â
âMy love, everyone loves our babies!â I giggled, throwing away the damp paper towel into the trash can before looping my arms around his middle. âItâs honestly just a simple part of babyhood, I think. Like, I know that there are people out there who do not like kids, and thatâs simply fine by meâŚâ
âMommy?â Baby Teddy meeped as her padded over to me. âMesies sleepy and is going to bed now.â
âOkay, do you want me or daddy to come up and help you get ready for bed?â I asked him, chuckling as he shook her head before going over to Elizabeth and grabbing her hand. âOh, my heartâŚâ
âHey sweetheart, do you want to watch a movie with the kids and I before bed, or do you want to go to bed now?â my husband asked me as he dried off his hands and stooped to press a whiskery kiss to my temple.

DING DONG
âSheâs here,â I giggled, standing from the dining room table, which I had been setting in preparation of breakfast, I hurried over to the door, pausing before opening it to brush down the front of my dress. âHello Sam!â
âHello, Lady Molly Anne!â smiled the child services worker, stepping inside and promptly kicking off their shoes. âHow are you doing today?â
âReally well, really well,â I answered with a smile, taking Samâs jacket and hanging it up in the coat closet before turning to Eleanore. âHello Eleanore. Itâs lovely to meet you at last.â
She just avoided my gaze and stared at the duct taped shoes on her feet.
âCome, do you want to see your bedroom?â She just nodded mutely before trailing after me, Sam carrying a trash bag of- what I only assumed- were clothes. âThereâs some laundry baskets and detergent pods in your closet. You can do you laundry- if you donât know how to, I can teach you.â
A delighted gasp flew out past her lips as I ushered her into her bedroom, amazed blue eyes taking in the framed artwork on the walls, the bare bookshelves and the comfy pillows on her bed.
âI like my room.â
I paused and turned to view Eleanore, who was smiling as she took in the fun little bits and pieces in her bedroom.
âIâm happy you like it.â I turned to leave, tilting my head back over towards her once more. âAria and Evie are making breakfast- should be ready in about twenty minutes, if you want to join us.â
Sam trailed after me, the both of us making our way down towards the dining room/kitchen and over towards the coffee machine when I motioned them over towards it.
âHello, Mr./ Miss Sam!â Aria greeted them, surprising me with her title from the child services officer. âHow are you doing today?â
âI am doing well enough,â Sam chuckled, absolutely unbothered by my daughterâs naĂŻve conclusion. âHow are thing with your sister and you?â
âMe and Evie are doing good!â Aria face then crinkled up. âMr./ Miss Sam, are you a boy or a girl?â
âAria!â I hissed. Luckily, Sam didnât seem to be bothered by her curiosity.
âI am non binary, which means that I donât identify as male or female,â they explained, looking up as Peter came up from the garage, where he had been puttering around in his man cave. âI not a boy, but Iâm also not a girl.â
âHow exactly does that work?â Aria looked confused as Evie moved her off to the side so that she could slide out the two massive trays of hashbrowns that had been cooking in the oven. âWhat were you born as?â
âAria Hope Ratajczyk, you are being rude right now little missy,â I hissed before turning to Sam. âI am so sorry-â
But Sam shook away my apology, laughing as they sipped at their coffee.
âItâs fine, itâs fine,â they chuckled. âI was born as a presenting female, but I didnât like being a girl. My dad was crazy about having a daughter after four sons, and he and my mom both went bat poop crazy when the doctor determined my sex- I had a pink nursery, my mom signed me up for ballet lessons at an early age, my dad would come home from work every other weeks with a cute little t-shirt that he would find for me while on his smoking break.â
Aria still looked confused as she began to chop up fruit, looking away from Sam and flashing Eleanore a happy smile as she appeared in the doorway.
âTake a seat, the girls will serve us,â I urged her smiling as she timidly took a seat next to her father and tucking her braided hair behind her ear.
âMr./ Miss Sam, then what can I call you?â Aria asked as she bought over the first of many plates.
âHow about Mx. Sam?â they suggested with a kind smile.
âOkie dokie, Mx. Sam!â she grinned as Evie joined her sister, balancing two plates in her hands.
âYum, this looks delicious!â Sam groaned, flapping out their napkin and setting it onto their lap. âAria, can you please pass me the pancakes?â
âWhat can I pass your way, Eleanore?â I asked the quiet child, giving her the plate of fruit. I frowned as how quiet she was acting, but I had to remind myself that she was the newcomer coming into the family, and that it would take her some time to find her groove.
âEleanore, whatâs your favorite school subject?â Peter asked her, drizzling a heavy helping on honey syrup onto his food.
âI really like computer science,â she answered with a shrug. âI really want to learn how to code and make video games, also I want to make my own Halloween animatronic. Theyâre really cool!â
âThey are,â Peter answered her. âMolly Anne went to college to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. Maybe you two will bond over that!â
She only smiled awkwardly before taking one last bite of her breakfast and pushing her plate off to the side, indicating that she was finished eating.
âEleanore,â I regained her attention by simply calling out her name. âWhat do you want to do today?â
She looked at me with a blank look in her eyes.
âWeâll consider doing anything you want to do today,â my husband clarified.
âCan we go to the zoo?â she asked in a timid voice. âPlease?â
âEleanore, and we please pin that up for another day?â Peter held up his hand to ask her to remain quiet while he explained himself. âThe family is constantly in the public eye, and I do not feel comfortable exposing you to the press just yet.â
âOh.â Eleanore deflated.
âMe and Evie and making garden boxes in daddyâs mancave, if you want to come help!â Aria offered, missing the flinch that she gave out at her affectionate title for the man who had adopted her and her twin. âCome on now!â
âNo handling the heavy equipment unless Iâm down there to supervise!â Peter called out.
âYes daddy!â

The next two weeks passed by smoothly- Peter made Eleanore a daybed with drawers underneath, a three tiered bookshelf, a bedside table with a singular drawer that sat at one end of her bed, and a modern desk with a matching chair set. I had fun looking for things that I felt would make her feel welcomed- bath towels in her favorite colors, a funky alarm clock that looked like a bubble Tetris game, retro classic arcade game prints that were framed and hung on the wall, and her closet had colored hangers- velvet hangers for t-shirts, wooden hangs for winter coats and jeans, and plastic hangers for dresses and sweaters, two collapsible laundry baskets, a hamper for dirty clothes and gentle, unscented laundry detergent pods that wouldnât aggravate her asthma.
Aria had come home from school, proudly toting two bookends that she had carefully crafted in her woodshop class at Saint Claireâs- a Pac-Man on one side, and the quartet of colored ghosts on the other side.
âIâm keeping to the theming of Eleanoreâs bedroom!â she explained in a chipper tone of voice as I arranged the new additions to her room. I didnât know why I had decided on the vintage retro gaming theme, but I decided to keep to the fun dĂŠcor.
When Sam came over the day before Eleanoreâs arrival, they were impressed with her bedroom.
âHow did you know that Eleanore loves games?â they asked, taking a step back from examining the bookends that Aria had carefully crafted.
âI didnât.â I blinked, surprised and pleased that I had gone with my motherly gut. âBoard games or video games?â
âShe has a little GameBoy that sheâll take out whenever sheâs feeling overwhelmed,â they explained. âItâs practically dying a long, slow death, but sheâs extremely passionate about gaming.â
After learning that new piece of evidence, I added a bright blue GameBoy device to my Amazon cart, ready to check out with within a momentâs notice. I had spent two hours looking at game cartages, finally deciding on a retro gaming cartridge that had games such as Tetris, Snake and Maze. I had also discovered a book on developing video games, and I had gone ahead and bought that, setting it onto the bed along with a welcome basket, which contained a bath towel, a wash rag, a toothbrush, a candy scented bath bomb, bubblegum flavored toothpaste, natural organic facewash and milk chocolate M&Ms.
And at long last, the big day arrived-
Today, Eleanore Sage Harkler would come to stay at the Ratajczyk household.
I woke up first, pressing a sweet kiss to my husbandâs temple before unnocking his massive sword from my womanly scabbard, tucking him away nice and neat into his sweatpants before heading into the bathroom to start getting ready for the day, a streak of the kingâs cum trickling down my leg.
I had barely stepped foot into the bathroom before I rushed over to the toilet, falling to my knees and being to puke my brains out.
I felt gross.
And a pleasant bead of hope began to sprout in my tummy.
Almost two and a half weeks had lapsed since King Peter and I had finally began to engage in sexual coitus after consummating our marital union, and I could only hope that his seed had been planted deep within my motherly womb and had sprouted. I was ready to become a mother to King Peter Thomas Ratajczyk of Brooklynâs babies.
âSweetheart?â
I heard the king padding into the bathroom, snagging a hair tie from the counter and tying my messy morning curls into a sloppy knot before taking to a knee next to me, gently rubbing my back and offering me emotional support as I was violently sick.
âYou alright, sweetheart?â he rumbled at last once I was finished. I slumped into his burly chest, letting out a slurred whine in response as he flushed the toilet and stood with me cradled in his arms. He set me onto the toilet, disappearing for a moment before returning again, in one arm was a prepicked outfit for me, in his other hand was a fresh bottled water.
I smiled as my husband doted over me, letting him clean me up and helping me to rinse out my mouth, breaking out into a coo when he showed me the outfit that he had handpicked for me to wear- a long sleeved, loose fitting green minidress, dark black leggings and ankle booties. He put makeup onto my face, got me into fresh panties and a soft fitting bra before dressing me for the big, exciting day ahead of us.
âSweetheart, I just texted Pamela and asked her to pick up some pregnancy tests for you,â he explained, a happy smile on his face. âYou can take them once the kids are in bed, okay?â
âSounds like a good idea to me, my love,â I hummed as he helped me up, nudging me to stand in front of the mirror while he fluffed up a curls.
âGood morning mommy! Good morning daddy!â chirped Aria happily when we both remerged from the bathroom, finding her and her twin sister making our bed. âGuess what? Today Eleanore arrives!â
âShe does, yes!â I smiled as Evie tossed a pillow over to her sister, the both of them quickly positioning our pillows- my husbandâs sad, flat pillow and my trio of plump, cushioning pillows, onto our respective sides of the bed. âAnd I donât want either of you to hover about her- Eleanoreâs mother died a week ago, remember. She will probably be overwhelmed, scared and tired.â
âYes mommy,â Aria told me, her tummy letting out a sound of neglect at that very moment. âOh lookie- Iâm hungry now.â

âHello, Sam?â I greeted the non-binary in appearance social worker who was packing up their laptop computer and taking a last sip from their bright electric yellow coffee cup.
âYes, thatâs me!â they grinned happily, coming to a pause right inside the house. âShould I remove my shoes before coming in?â
âThat is preferred, but I understand if you are not comfortable with it,â I answered, noting their mismatched socks- one with green and blue stripes, the other with orange and purple polka dots. âMay I offer you more coffee?â
âCoffee is my addiction!â Sam followed me, helping themselves to the massive coffee pot that the king kept for his own personal use. âDo you happen to have milk?â
âWill Half & Half work?â I asked, opening the refrigerator to grab the carton and hand it over.
âWhereâs King Peter?â Just then, my husband entered from the garage, where he had been composing himself, causing for Sam to quickly collect themself. âYour majesty.â
MEOW
Coco strutted in, on the clear hunt for some love as she made a beeline over towards the child services worker, standing up on her hind legs and putting her front paw onto the androgynously dressed human.
MEOW Coco gave the newcomer a hard look, breaking out into a loud, rumbling purr when the pats started to come.
PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUR
âEleanore has asthma,â Sam stated.
âOh, so then brush the kitties out once every other day, make certain that there are no sign of dust bunnies, have the kids take off their shoes outside?â I asked, my Wal Mart app up, where I was searching for allergen friendly laundry soaps. âMy love, what more do you think we should do?â
âI can have my kitties relocated to another one of my estates,â Peter offered without even a secondâs thought. âWill we need to do a deep clean of the house before Eleanoreâs arrival?â
âIâm afraid Iâm not a doctor,â Sam confessed with a sheepish chuckle. âI can get you her hospital and doctorsâ records, if you would like to read them over.â
âI could always do with a bit more light reading!â Peter chuckled. âBut really- I just need to claim her as my daughter by having my name on her birth certificate and then I can put her onto my medical insurance.â
âAh, well, that doesnât sound complicated in the least bit,â Sam said, taking a swig of coffee. âBefore we get started, I would like to have a look around the house. Do you mind if I go ahead and do so really quickly?â
âYeah sure,â Peter muttered, his bushy eyebrows furrowed as he stared at the screen of his cell phone.
âIâll join you!â I offered, leading Sam up to the second floor, where I began to show them the numerous bedrooms that the king had when the house was initially built, feeding the child service worker little fun facts.
âThis is Evieâs room, yes?â Sam asked, poking their head into the bedroom. âSheâs deaf, am I correct? Does the family flash the lights on to grab her attention for something?â
âGo inside and close the door,â I ordered her, tapping the button that connected to her specially modified doorbell.
âOh wow, thatâs so cool!â Sam was beaming as they went into the Jack and Jill bathroom, and then Ariaâs bedroom. âOh wow- have you tested Aria for ADHD?â
âIâve honestly never really had much of an idea to do so,â I confessed, folding my arms over my chest. âSheâd always been one of the kids to get good grades- not perfect grades, but good grades, high seventies to mid-eighties. Isnât one of the traits of having ADHD poor grades?â
âThatâs a common stereotype,â Sam explained, entering the room that I said was going to be for Eleanore- positioned right next door to Ariaâs bedroom, the room possessed exposed beam work in the ceiling, a wall the curved around the big window, and a well sized closet. The room was painted a bland shade of green and didnât have anything else in it. âWill you and the king be purchasing furniture for Eleanoreâs bedroom?â
âMy husband plans on making a bed, a side table, a simple shelving unit, a desk and chair for her,â I explained. âHe made the furniture in the girlsâ bedrooms and also our marital bed, the chest of drawers and the bedside tables in the master bedroom.â
âOh, thatâs amazing!â Sam exclaimed, delighted at this fresh tidbit of information.
âWhat are Eleanoreâs favorite colors?â I asked. âPeter and I will paint the waits a more neutral color to make it easier to age up the room as she grows up, but we can buy curtains, bedsheets, rugs and other such accessories in her favorite colors.â
âHold on, I wrote it downâŚâ Sam whipped out a pad of paper and began to flip through the pages, muttered quietly at they search for the answer to my question. âAha! Eleanoreâs favorite color are Tiffany blue, deep pink and bumblebee yellow.â
âOh, so bright colors!â I hummed happily. âWhat else can you tell us about her?â
âWell, her name is Eleanore Sage Harkler,â Sam began with. âShe has asthma, her birthday is September fourth, she loves peanut butter brownies, her favorite food is pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms, and she looks just like her mother.â
Here, Peter tensed up as Sam handed me her cell phone. I smiled at the picture as Eleanore, who was a pretty seven year old girl with light black skin, kinky black hair done up in braids, and her fatherâs spellbinding eyes.
âOh, sheâs so beautiful,â I breathed, smiling at her image. âI will look into finding a salon for her when she decides that she needs a new hairstyle.â
âThat does sounds like a good idea,â Sam smiled. âIâm sure that Eleanore will appreciate that.â

CHAPTER WORD COUNT: 1223
The very moment I arrived back at home again, I couldnât help but notice that dad seemed almost terrified to let me out of his sight.
He saw what happened to his wife and children, mom reminded me when she came in to tuck me into bed later that night.
That made sense to me- even though I didnât remember it, the attack that killed my mother and other siblings had been debilitating and calculating- even though the terrorists had murdered the wrong target, my father had still buckled down on security- border and transportation control had tightened up, the policeâs presence had gotten heavier, and the country had grown more suspicious and cautious of people who didnât belong.
I knew of both sides- protection verses wanting to start a new life, and while I didnât agree fully with either side, I respected both different sides of options- Brooklynâs strict regulations for citizenship were in place to try and weed out those who hated my father and those who supported them. While on the other hand, I did agree that the entire process was a bit too much- I understood that dad hated the terrorist organization that stole mom and my siblings away from the both of us, and that he had signed the new law on immigration into effect almost two months after everyoneâs deaths.
When I had arrived back at home again following my exciting day, I found myself sitting next to mom with my hand on her popped out tummy, feeling as the tiny twins kicked and twirled and punched away happily.
Hey mom? I asked her, being rewarded with a motherly smile. Can I make dinner tonight? Iâm thinking pasta and red sauce.
With a salad? she hinted shamelessly, breaking out into a surprised laugh when I playfully dug my fingers into her armpit.
You got it! I grinned savagely before standing to skip into the kitchen.
~xoXox~
I was unable to sleep that night- after spending three hours tossing and turning, I finally gave up, grabbing a book that I was currently reading and wandering out of my bedroom.
I stepped out into the hallway, noticing the light that was trickling in through the partway open doors of the master bedroom. I poked my head into the doorway, perking up at the sight of dad reading to mom.
He looked up and smiled at me, holding out a hand to summon me in, pressing a whiskery kiss to my temple when I reached him.
Canât sleep? He asked me, setting the book of to the side. I shook my head, finding peace in his embrace.
How many died? I asked him, catching the hesitation on his face. Dad?
Four died, he finally confessed after much heeing and hawing. Four died, and twenty seven were injured.
Wow. I was expectingâŚ. more?
I understand, he told me, turning his head to face mom, who had rolled onto her face and cracked her eyelids open. She said something- asking dad what was going on, most probably, being rewarded with a sheepish apology.
Sorry for waking you, mom, I apologized sheepishly, not wanting to leave dad.
She smiled sleepily before turning to dad and saying something before she rolled back onto the side and went back to sleep.
Would you like to sleep with us tonight? dad translated, moving out of the way as I scrambled into bed, parking myself between my parents.
~xoXox~
When I woke up the next morning, I found myself neatly ducked into my parentsâ massively sized bed, with pillows stacked on either sides of me, keeping me in one place while I slept.
After I had wriggled myself free and made the bed again, I came out with the intension of going to my bedroom to get ready for the day. I was derailed by Cinnamon, who mosied up to me before twisting his kitty self in between my ankles.
MEOW he yowled before breaking into a thundering purr that reverberated throughout my bones.
PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURâŚ
Good kitty, I though as I collected the happy cat into my arms and petting his head as I derailed, instead going down the stairs, where I found my parents engaged in what I could only deduce was an intense conversation.
I paused, lifting up my foot before bringing it down sharply two times, drawing their attention over to where the little brown and orange kitty was still purring.
PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURâŚ
I giggled, scratching at that special spot behind an ear as I took in the tense undertones in the room. I shot a look at dad as he began to chuckle sheepishly.
Your father and I are both disagreeing about what to do with you moving forward, mom blabbed, ignoring the betrayed expression that dad shot her.
I only set Cinnamon down and took a seat at the kitchen island, folding my fingers together and leaning my chin onto my hands, giving them both my full, undivided attention.
I just want you to be safe, dad led off with, folding his arms in tightly to his chest and leaning backwards into the refrigerator.
What he means is that he doesnât want to let you out of his sight once more, mom translated drily. He doenât want to let you live freely.
I did not say that! Dad protested hotly. I just said that I want to beef up security a bit more-
Which is basically the same thing! Mom turned to face me. your fatherâs idea of surcurity is to have people following you 24/7. You lose all the traces of privacy- you canât go to the bathroom alone, if you meet someone and just want to spend two minutes alone with them, security will still insist on imposing on you. itâs miserable!
Dad was looking defeated as mom handed me a plate with scrambled eggs and hashbrowns, leaning over to affectionatly pat my head as I grabbed my fork and hungrily began to dig in.
I looked up again and saw mom and dad arguing yet again, feeling a drop in my stomach as I ate- so what would happen now?

When I woke up the next morning, my body was sore and the master bedroom reeked from the activities that my kingly soulmate and I engaged in the night before.
âGood morning, sweetheart,â Peter murmured in a gentle voice, brushing a loving kiss onto my brow. âDid you sleep well last night?â
I did, yes your majesty.
He smiled down at me before tossing back the blankets and rolling out of bed, asking me if I wanted him to draw me a bubble bath to take a soak in before facing the day ahead of the both of us.
âMy love, can you please open the window a crack to help with airing the room out some?â I requested of him right before nipping off into the bathroom to take my morning shower.
âHey sweetheart, do you think we should keep the girls home from school today?â I did need to look to see him carrying the soiled bedsheets into the bathroom to dump into the laundry basket.
âMy love, I think we shouldnât keep the girls from school today,â I mused out loud as he nodded before leaving to redress the bed. âItâs still their first week in, and I really donât want to disrupt their schedule.â
âAh, okay then,â he called out from the bedroom, acknowledging my thinkings with a soft hum. âSweetheart, I think Iâll make Eleanoreâs bedroom furniture myself after hearing more about her from child services. Also, are you still serious about getting a second vehicle for you to drive?â
âI am, my love, but it has been the better part of ten years since I last sat behind the wheel of a car,â I answered him with a frown. âI would like to take a refresher course in driving first though.â
âWould you like me to look into a driving instructor for you?â he asked me, already ready to jump in feet first.
âCan you ride around with me for a few weeks until I get the hang of driving again?â I asked him before really thinking. âAlthough I have no idea how that would even work out- you would be impossibly squished in the passenger seat!â
âSweetheart, I would happily be impossibly squished in any passenger seat for you.â I cracked a smile at his sly quip, turning the water off and wringing the water out from my red curls. I turned and smiled at my bright turquoise towel that he was holding out to me. I frowned at the realization that the towel was warm- but I hadnât heard him go into the laundry room on the main floor. âLook over here now, sweetheart.â
I smiled when he moved the laundry basket and showed me a door, which he opened to show me a little warming area for towels.
âWhy didnât you tell me of this masterful thing?â I laughed as I stepped out of the towel, my curls tossed up and back in a turbie twist.
âWell, I do feel this overwhelming urge to surprise you every so often, sweetheart!â he chuckled, stepping aside to give me more access to my sink. âBesides, the house wouldnât be special if I showed you every little secret that I had built in, would I now?â
âTrue enough my love, true enough,â I agreed as I bought out my makeup kaboodle. âNow, do you want to help me with my makeup today?â
~xoXox~
While driving the girls to school, Peter had told them about Eleanore, and was pleasantly surprised by Aria asking when she would arrive.
âNot for a while, Bluebells,â I answered for him. âChild services still needs to check out our living accommodations to make sure that itâs safe and sound.â
âBut daddy-â she started to protest, silencing when I held my hand up.
âChild services has a way of doing things, and it has to be by the book, or else nothing gets done,â I told her in a firm voice. âNow, is your bedroom clean? The social worker will probably need to take a look inside.â
âItâs just a teensy bit messy,â she confessed, turning her eyesight from me out to the window, and I knew my answer.
âWhen you get home again, I want you to go upstairs and get your bedroom cleaned up!â I sighed as Peter turned into the parking lot of Saint Claireâs.
âWill Eleanore go to Saint Maryâs along with me and Evie?â she asked next, clearly trying to divert my attention.
âProbably not until the start of the next year,â I told her with a frown. âYour sister and you only got in so late because your grandmother called in a favor with the headmistress. Your father and I will not be trying our luck.â
âOkay.â And with that, Aria diverted her attention elsewhere other than on me.
Peterâs thumb was tapping out a nervous beat on the steering wheel as he parked the car, and so I reached over to take his hand into mine, raising it up lovingly to press my lips into the heel of his palm.
He looked over at me and I flashed him a sweet smile.
RING RING
RING RING
RING RING
âCan you get that for me please, sweetheart?â the king asked me. âI havenât quite figured out how to sync my phone to the Bluetooth in the car.â
I smiled sweetly at him as I answered his phone. âHello, this is King Peterâs wife who youâre speaking to!â
âWell, hello Lady Molly Anne! My name is Sam White and I am from Child Services.â
âHello Sam!â I turned to Peter. âItâs Sam from child services.â
âHI SAM!â Aria screamed.
âAria, use your inside voice!â I scolded her before returning to the laughing service worker. âIâm so sorry, that was Aria.â
âHello Aria!â Sam was still laughing.
âSam just said hello to Aria,â I relayed before returning to the conversation at hand.
âWell, Iâm up at the house currently, and it appears that no one is home at the moment.â
âPeter and I are dropping the girls off at school, but weâll be home in about forty five minutes,â I said. âSorry about that!â
âOh no, please donât apologize- I shouldâve asked what time works best for you! is it alright with you if I wait for you on the front porch? I can occupy myself with getting some work done.â
âYeah, go ahead and do that!â Peter pulled into the parking lot at Saint Claireâs. âListen, can we talk to you in a little bit? Weâve just arrived at Saint Claireâs.â
âOf course! Iâll talk to you in a little bit then!â
âAlright, bye Sam!â And with that, I hung up the phone just as Peter pulled into a parking spot. The four of us got out and walked inside, Peter on one side and me on the other side, Aria and Evie sandwiched between the both of us.
âBye mommy! Bye daddy!â Aria and Evie swarmed us in seeking farewell hugs.
âGo, have fun, learn, be bright!â the king ordered both girls, using both his hands and voice to relay his love for both girls before we left the school and found ourselves quickly on our way back home again.
We were ten minutes away from home when the king finally spoke, reaching out to turn the radio down.
âIâm scared.â
I crinkled my eyebrows in confusement- what did my strong, fiercely protective, drop dead terrifying husband have to fear?
âMy love?â I asked him as he turned off the freeway and started the drive into the trees that surrounded our little piece of heaven on earth. âMy love, what are you scared of?â
He seemed like he was struggling to find words, pulling up to the house and opening the garage door.
âIâm just scared,â he finally whimpered as the garage door closed, killing the ignition. âI donât know what Iâm scared of, but I am truly and deeply terrified.â
âMy loveâŚâ I nibbled at my lower lip as I struggled to think of something to say. âMy love, I am scared too.â
Here, he looked up at me and leaned into me as I began to gently kiss the side of his face.
âCan I be scared with you?â I wondered, getting my answer in the form of a quick kiss.
âSweetheart, what do you have to be scared of?â he murmured, capturing my lips in a searing kiss.
âEverything and nothing, my love,â I breathed, letting out an annoyed huff as he drew away to get out from his side of the care. âI donât know the name of what I fear, only that I can feel it. I think it may be the same fear that you feel.â
âAnd so what if it is?â he gasped as I just clung to his front.
âWell then my love, there is only nut one simple answer,â I pressed one last kiss to his Adamâs apple. âWe both face our fears together.â

I was happily smiling as I rode my bike around the neighborhood, slowing from time to time to allow my two on foot bodyguards enough time to catch up to me. They were dressed casually in workout attire and had earbuds stuck in their ears and apple watches strapped onto their wrists.
I was riding off to the side of the road, waving whenever Iâd encounter a car, and receiving friendly waves back in return. I would oftentimes pause and exchange hand signed words with my bodyguards, forming a relationship with the sterned faced Angel Petersons and Carrie Barker.
Angel had been working as a bodyguard for the royal family for twelve years, and was extremely career driven, cautious about her surroundings and sharp as a tack. Carrie had been employed for the same amount of time, but was Angelâs polar opposite- bubbly, funny, gentle spirited. Dad had told me that Angel and Carrie were to be my personal bodyguards, and if I ever had to go anywhere, then they were to accompany me- no exception.
I casually threw out my arms, gliding along the side of the street with an easy smile on my face as I came up to a stoplight and readied myself to go straight. A little boy dropped his soccer ball, which rolled out towards me, missing me and then rolling underneath a car parked across the street. I looked up, smiling and raising my hand to wave, only to find the child turning away and rushing off. My face wrinkled into a small frown as I-
A sudden explosion.
The power of the blast sent me skidding away, where my bike tripped on the opposite curb and I spilled over onto the sidewalk. I lurched back up again, fighting worrying hands as I struggled to locate Angel and Carrie- even though we had just met not even an hour before, I liked the both of them.
What I saw was a nightmare- most of the street had been destroyed, ripped up and tossed around, with the remints of bodies- men, women, children- being pulled out from the rubble and rushed off towards a small coffee shop.
I was staring at a woman removing the small body of a little boy when I was enveloped in a crushing hug, my face being pressed into someoneâs shoulder. I tensed up before realizing that Carrie was the one who was hugging me. I peeked up and spied Angel, on her phone and talking a mile a minute while she ran her hand through her pixie cut hairstyle.
What happened? Who is injured? Why did this just happen? I wanted to scream, however, I was unable to do so, as how Carried had a death grip on me. I squeaked uncomfortably, signalling that I wanted her to let me go.
Are you alright? she asked me, maneuvering me off of my bike and helping me get onto the sidewalk.
I tried to use my hands to relay that I didnât know only to find the connection from my brain to my fingers momentarily severed. I stared at my unmoving fingers with a numb sort of unidentifiable emotion.
I looked down at my hands, folded haphazardly on my lap, and found myself wondering-
What happened?
~xoXox~
Dad burst into my hospital room unceremoniously, worry and fear clear as day on his face as the kind faced nurse checked my heartbeat.
Are you alright? he signed with one hand as he limped over to me, grabbing a chair and dragging it over to my bed. He reached up, seizing ahold of my hand before turning his head to face the nurse with a stern expression over his bearded face.
Iâm fine, I signed shakily- my ability to sign had returned, although I could only use basic signs at the moment. I tapped his hand, redirecting his attention back to me. Do you know where my bike is?
I took in the incredulous expression over his face before realizing that I didnât have my priorities straight.
But dad only chortled before telling me that he had grabbed my bike from the police station and that it was now in the back of his car. He then reached up to carefully trace my stitched up face- apparently, I was injured during the explosion, however I wasnât aware of it when it happened.
Dad? He glanced at me, nonverbally telling me to hang on just a moment while he finished up talking to the nurse, who was just finishing up checking my vitals. How many are dead?
Here, he hesitated, clearly not wanting to tell me as he shifted before leaning forward to press a fatherly kiss to my brow.
Hush now, he urged me, refusing to meet my gaze. Letâs talk about it when I get you back home again, yeah?
I agreed, leaning back and shutting my eyes- since when had I ever been this exhausted?

Today (09/04/2025) is my 33rd birthday!

âHihi there, sweet little girl,â I crooned as little girl rested on me where I was sitting in an uncomfortable hospital issued wheelchair. One of the nurses had seen me struggling under her big girl weight and had sat me down before wheeling me off.
âMama Wen Wen, I hurt!â she whined, still wearing a neck brace as the doctors worked expertly around us both. âMy neck feels funny! I do not like my necklace!â
I chuckled gently, looking up as the doctor was wheeling the both of us in to X-rays. Peter had volunteered to stay back and wrangle the Ratajczyk kids, leaving me to deal with little girl.
âLittle girl, little girl, little cutie pie,â I sang quietly as I was instructed to stand off to the side as little girl was neatly arranged. âLittle girl, little girl, mommy loves you.â
âDonât leave me, Mama We Wen!â she cried, settling once I returned and offered her my fingers to grab at as I was being dressed for a sudden burst of radiation.
âNever,â I swore, smiling as I offered her my fingers to squeeze.
âThree⌠two⌠one⌠smile!â The camera shutter clicked loudly, and the doctor on call helped little girl get settled back onto my chest, where she encircled her arms around my neck and wrapped her little girl legs around my middle. Her little foot was clearly broken, all black and painfully angry, and she refused to stand on it, erupting into ear-piercing screams as she sat down and refused to walk.
âItâs fine now, youâre safe and sound now,â I hummed as I sank down into my provided wheelchair with one loudly fussing little girl safe and sound in my arms. âHow are her daddies doing?â
âIâll go check up on them after I deliver you to her assigned room, alright?â the nurse who was pushing us offered, and I nodded before turning to press a motherly kiss to little girlâs forehead.
âMama Wen Wen, I was so scared!â little girl continued chattering on as we entered her room, where Peter was squeezed into an uncomfortably tiny chair, watching as the brood of Ratajczyk babies- big boy Tommy, Baby Noah, Baby Eve, Baby Mattie, Baby Teddy and Baby Jojo were all pattering around while Elizabeth and Katie were both curled up in a corner working on their homework. âDaddy and Papa Bear werenât talking to me, and so I dialed you and Papa Pete!â
âSmart girl,â I hummed before handing her over to her beloved godfather and then getting out of the wheelchair and onto the bed to observe the room of peaceful mayhem.
âKnock knock!â I turned and smiled at Ryley, who entered before being swarmed by Ratajczyk babies, all eager to greet their cousin. âHello there, sweet babies!â she cooed, scooping down and seizing Baby Jojo, who promptly let out a happy screech before cramming her braid into her mouth. âSo, good news- little girlâs spine and neck are perfectly fine, so you donât have to wear the collar anymore!â
âYay yay!â she giggled happily, leaning forward and allowing for Ryley to remove the collar. âWhat about my foot?â She waved her painfully bruised foot. I was no doctor, but I knew that there was some amount of damage to her little girl foot.
âThatâs the bad news.â Ryleyâs face was firm, but relieved, telling me that the news werenât so serious. âShe suffered a nasty break in the heel of her left foot, and will need to wear a cast for at least eight to ten weeks.â
âI want a green cast!â little girl decided at once, all snuggled into her beloved godfatherâs chest. âPlease?â
âI shall go and fetch the podiatrist whoâs currently on the clock to outfit little girl into her big girl cast,â she announced, a relieved smile overtaking her face. âTheir name is Doctor Xi, and they are extremely sweet- I think you all will all like then.â
âMama Wen Wen?â little girl meeped a few minutes later. âI need to go potty now.â
âAlright, come here nowâŚâ I intercepted her from Peter, where I lugged her into the bathroom and assisted her in getting her shorts and underwear down before helping her onto the toilet, where I then took a seat onto the edge of the bathtub.
I heard someone entered the room just then, and I took them to be Doctor Xi as I handed little girl a balled up handful of toilet paper, which she used to wipe herself before she hopped off from the toilet and landed on her one good foot.
I helped her from the bathroom, where we both discovered that Doctor Xi was a sweet faced young doctor who came in pushing a cart of essential needs.
âIs this little Vanessa Rose?â they asked, the corners of their eyes crinkling merrily.
âMy name is little girl!â she huffed, giving up and falling to her knees to crawl over to the doctor.
âLittle girlâŚ?â they asked, clearly confused as Peter started to chuckle.
âI met my now wife when she was twenty six weeks pregnant with her, and she was calling her little girl up until her birth,â he responded, scooping her up as she made grabby hands at him, where he settled her onto his knee. âThe nickname is a symbol of how much she was loved and wanted before she was born.â
âOkay then!â Doctor Xi seemed to understand the symbolism behind little girlâs moniker as she first grabbed a roll of cotton. âFirst off, Iâm going to wrap this nice and snug around your foot, alright?â
âExcuse me, Doctor Xi?â I gently captured her attention. âWhat happens if little girlâs foot doesnât heal?â
âThen the doctor will have her reevaluated before going from there,â they explained plainly before returning to their job. âWhat color cast do you want now, little girl?â

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHORESS:
Today (09/04/2025) is my 33rd birthday!
WORD: 1161
âHey there Elizabeth,â I greeted her as she came into my study, an expression of deep thought on her face. âWhatâs on your mind?â
âWill Katie come with the family to Maryland for the Sherwood Forest Renaissance Faire?â she asked me in a hesitatingly tone of voice. âOr will she need to stay back?â
âWell, Uncle Gideon cleared her to come with the family to faire in Maryland,â I broke the big news to her, being rewarded with a toothy grin. âAnd I also went ahead and sent the head of security a fully detailed email about what allâs been going on.â
âYay yay!â she cheered happily, clearly excited as she took a seat in her designated desk and turned on her sewing machine.
I smiled at her, turning away from fine tuning my Hunting Jack the Ripper trilogy. When Gideon had came over a few days prior, he had been greeted by a happily chittering Primrose approaching to wind around his ankles, who was then promptly scooped up and carried in my big brotherâs arms as he came into the dining room to consult with Peter and I.
From what all he told us, Katieâs grandparentsâ didnât have a legal leg to stand on as how Peter and I were her legal guardians, and if they tried to petition for grandparentsâ rights, they could only request supervised visitation, as per par with New York laws, and we could only request supervised visitations with them through the courts, if Katie was okay with it.
âKatie is at the age where her own personal wants will be taken into heavy consideration,â he broke everything down for us, petting a happily purring Primrose as he did so.
After he had left, Peter told me that he had invested a small fortune in tracking jewelry for the kids, saying that he felt great unease and anxiety whenever the kids were out of sight now that this drama was happening.
âItâll be in the form of simple bracelets that can be tracked with an app,â he filled me in as we both were busy cleaning the house while the kids were out. âYou can put in a radius where they are not to leave, and you are alerted to them leaving the area. The completed package will come with a custom scantron where we can upload the app and sync the bracelets to our cell phones.â
âCool!â I hummed, terrified that this was our life now. âDo you want Elizabeth to download the app to her phone?â
Peter was already shaking his head, telling me that the scantron was only good for two cell phones before becoming deactivated. I nodded in understandment, knowing that the familyâs anxiety was enough to power the house for four solid years at this point.
When Isabelle bought the babies back before heading back off to pick up the girls from school, my husbandâs anxiety was momentarily quelled by all of the tiny little Ratajczyk humans curled up over his broad chest.
âI AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE AHHHHHHâ screamed my cell phone just as I was coming out of the laundry room. âI AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE AHHHHHHâ
âHihi Aaron,â I greeted my friend.
âMama Wen Wen, I miss you and Papa Pete!â
My heart automatically melted at hearing little girlâs voice on the other line.
âHihi there, little girl!â I greeted her as I made my way into the TV room, where Peter was settled in his chair watching a rerun episode of How Itâs Made. All of the babies- Baby Noah, Baby Eve, Baby Mattie, Baby Teddy, Baby Jojo were taking adorable little baby naps on his chest. âMy love, little girlâs on the phone!â
He paused the TV, turning as I set the phone onto speakerphone.
âPapa Pete, my daddies and I were in a car wreck!â she continued speaking, making a pit form in my stomach. âIâm scared.â
âJesus-â Peter swore, launching up from his seat. âWhere are you?â In the background, we could hear sirens wailing and excited chatter.
âOWIE OW OW!â shrieked little girl just then, making my heart jump into my throat.
âLittle girl!â Peter barked as the phone was intercepted.
âHello, who is this?â
âIâm little girlâs godfather.â I decided that I hoped I would never hear him use that tone of voice ever again- he sounded fucking dangerous, all so full of fear and anger. âWhich hospital is she being taken to? Can she and her daddies be taken to Mercy Memorial? I have a niece who works there.â
âYes, thatâs where weâre taking them. Will you meet us there?â
The door to the garage opened and closed, the chatter of Elizabeth and Katie filling the house as Peter and I both scrambled for our shoes and pocket bags.
âWe can be at the hospital in about half an hour.â His voice was steelen serious as he moved about the house.
âElizabeth, Katie, little girl and her daddies were just in a car accident,â I told them as we passed each other. âDaddy and I are getting ready to go to Mercy Memorial and potentially bring her home with us. Do you two want to come with?â
âYes!â Katie said for the both of them before turning to face her younger sister and the babies. âCome on, letâs go down to daddyâs Doom Buggy 3.0!â
âYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!â screamed the babies as the all clattered downstairs to climb into the Doom Buggy 3.0.
Mo stĂłr, my dear, Irish Gaelic
