Classic ghost story with a complicated publishing history, New York Weekly Vol. XXX No. 1, November 9, 1874, "The Dream Woman. A Mystery in Four Parts" by Wilkie Collins. The story originated as "The Ostler" in Household Words No. 855 (1855), and was collected in Queen of Hearts (London: Hurst & Blackett, 1859) as "Brother Morgan's Story of the Dream-Woman". During Collins's 1874 America tour he rewrote it for American audiences and the New York Weekly publication appeared concurrently(?) with the British Temple Bar Magazine No. 168, November 1874 and The Frozen Deep and Other Stories (London: Richard Bentley and Son, November 18, 1874).
