I don't think "it was x years ago" is a good excuse at all for saying and joking about the n slur. Like I get it if people want to still enjoy the show, but honestly the time capsule argument has been the most racist and degrading argument for our people for years. Everytime a creator comes out to have said the n slur at a functioning and knowledgeable age, everyone runs over Black people and say that it was only x years ago. But that frankly doesn't matter.
That many years ago a Black person died to police brutality. There was an old man one of my relatives' friends had to take care of who shouted slurs and treated her like a slave showing clearly that some people don't change after time. Racism is not invalid just because of someone's previous age or previous years, and if people fail to properly address it and apologize then nothing happens. There is no justice. There is no fixing. There is no healing. There's nothing and it's scary because this happens all the time. It's the best example of white privilege, the ability to say the n slur and have an army of white knights protect you from learning, actually growing, actually understanding why what they said is harmful.
All we want is a proper apology, a proper resolution to not do it again, fully showing the audience why the n slur is actually bad so they stop defending it, and then never repeating. That's all we want. Now some people want these people fired of course and some don't want one featured subject but all we need as Black people is for people to stop belittling the n slur to "just a word" instead of its continous connection to antiBlack oppression we see today. Like guys, racism isn't over. Slavery isn't over. Disenfranchisement isn't over. Those still exist and thrive as ever. The fight for Black people is as active as the fight for other minorities.
Do not use this as a sole voice for every Black person obviously, but my current unit is about our suffering and fight in the US and I've seen how little we matter to others in full light for our entire lives here. I don't want to allow white people to get away with oppression just because it was removed enough in time, that reflects today. If you can't condemn the word for someone in a functional age just because it was a while ago, then why now? Yeah people should be allowed to change but people remain secretly racist for years. I want them to show they've actually changed and I want it now. That's not too much to ask for, it's what we've been asking for our entire lives.
I don’t have much to add here because everything you’ve said here is the bare minimum of what black peeps want, me included.
I’ve said my piece about it but I will reiterate that in this situation the people who rightfully feel hurt should not have their feelings invalidated.
I feel that sentence can co exist with not harassing ANY body, fans, VA, etc
