I have a genuine question, since this has happened to my cousin and my brother A LOT.
Why, when a straight man takes care of himself, dresses well, is sensitive, respects women and has healthy close relationships with his male friends, we label him as gay?
Both irl and in the medias, people proceed to go like: "no he's def gay", "my gayometer is beeping", "they should just kiss (referred to friends)", "he just needs gay sex", "this man can't be straight", "he's bi, no way he's heterosexual"... etc...
And then we proceed to denigrate straight men for having no fashion sense, not being able to process their emotions, not being respectful and not having good relationships with others?
Have we really gone so full circle that now we use the same point homophobes use? Are we in the 50s where, if a man was not a caveman, he was considered gay by default? I tought freeing men from toxic masculinity was letting them free to be themselves, both gay and straight.
There's nothing wrong in being mistaken as gay, but there's something wrong in assuming someone's sexuality and label them the wrong way, subtly implying that it is also better. The message we give is "straight men are trash, they don't behave like this"... while I tought the whole point was to end the gender stereotypes once for all. A feminine man (or a man with basic hygiene) can be straight, just as much as a more masculine man can be gay. Personality is NOT sexuality.
