(SoundBite)(New Music) Tessellate (Alt-J Cover) - Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding has an act for taking covers and turning them into something speical (See her covers of Rihanna, The Temper Trap, The Weeknd, & Active Child to just name a few).
No matter if she strips the track down to just some acoustic guitars and vocals, or if she is adding in a saxophone solo, Goulding's ability to make people question if her version is better then the original is the mark of a true artiest.

On this Alt-J cover, we find Goulding teaming up with producer Xaphoon Jones (Of Chiddy Bang) twisting and turning the original track (which had an indie/hip-hop inspired sound) into this sexy, silky, less is more number. Jones, atmospheric approach to the production is just gorgeous and suits Goulding's lovely, vocals perfectly.
Of course, if all of that was not enough, the track has a jazz breakdown which adds to the overall sexiness that Goulding brings to the track.

While Goulding and Jones previous work together, her version of The Weeknd's "High For This" has a very similar, sexy vibe to it, this time around, things feel a little more serious. Goulding has stated that she's filmed a video for the track already, plus the entire blog world seems to be in love with this (as they should be).
With Goulding and Calvin Harris currently taking over the pop world with their massive tune "I Need Your Love" maybe releasing this striped back sexy number was just the right move for the songstress. Instead of letting people think that she's "sold out", "moving more towards a radio sound" or other such ridiculous notions, Goulding is choosing to let her music to the talking.
"Chunks of you will sink down to seals. Blubber rich in mourning, they'll nosh you up. Yes, they'll nosh the love away but it's fair to say. You will still haunt me."
This feels like the song that you want to see playing in an indie film, as the two main character first have sex, and the camera pans to the window to show a midnight summer storm raging outside. Signaling that their calm will soon be ending.

Goulding is here to make you feel something. She's not going to tell you what exactly you're supposed to feel, but damn it, you're going to be feeling it.
P.S - In that MTV interview, Goulding states that she also has an 80's cover coming soon. How hyped are we for that! I've got my fingers crossed for an Eurythmics, The Smiths, or The Cure cover.
