All I Want To Be Is Free | Cassie & Amora
Retail therapy was not a term that had been coined on Asgard; unless one were predominately interested in livestock, furs and the occasional garments to be found on the market, there was little choice within the markets of her own realm. The phrase had seemed to accrue to the Midgardianâs need to compensate emotional turmoil with the latest fashions and their accessories. The blonde more familiar with the brand names of those who had had an ad televised, the likes of Gucci, Versace and Prada were ones which had seemed to clutch determinedly at the corners of her mind with the desire not to be forgotten. (It may have been, however, that the blonde had said âbless youâ upon hearing the first, had pondered which tongue the second was spoken in for a solid five minutes and asked if the third were a battle cry if said loud enough).
The sorceress did not wander aimlessly like the soft cotton clouds that meandered above the Manhattan skyline as though attempting to unnecessarily shield the sun from the moon in the constant game of hide and seek between the two; her excursion was filled with purpose, emphasised by the staccato rhythm of heeled boots against the concrete pavement. The seconds ticked by, that could have either been denoted by the ticking of the many watches that adorned the wrists of the citizens of the city or the fragmented white blanket that breezed across the sky guided by the hand of Father Time himself, the Enchantress turning off the crowded path via the door that had hung slightly ajar which lead to her destination.
Cassie Lang stood slightly to the left of the entrance, bright pools of sapphire having been drawn to the jet black leather jacket that bore two red stripes which had been integrated into the design to create a look reminiscent of both practicality and a touch of stylish elegance. If Madame Hydraâs records were in fact true; Amora was to believe that the girlâs father had been murdered by the Scarlet Witch meaning that, now, the young blonde sought revenge for the parent that had been taken from her. It was probable that the young Avenger may accept what the Asgardian had to say if she offered her the chance to live out (or think she was living out) her revenge. Lithe limbed strides became slower, walking up beside the teenager as her own green eyes perused the shelves before darting down to the jacket now held in the delicate hands of the other, offering an airy; âIt would suit you, you know. It is reminiscent of your costume is it not?â Perfectly painted nails reached out to rest against the fair haired girlâs arm as a gentle, reassuring expression softened the sorceressâs features as she uttered a whispered, âItâs all right, I am a friend, I hope.â
For all anyone wanted was to be free from the shackles that chained them to the past, was it not?Â
Cassie loved to shop, but not for the reasons most teenage girls loved to shop. Most only wanted to spend money out of pure boredom, or to get all the newest fashion. Both of which, Cassie liked, but that was not her reason. She simply came to stores to escape. To get away from the hectic life of being an Avenger. To get away from all the romance amongst her friends. Not that she wasn't happy for them, but sometimes she just needed to escape. To be on her own for awhile. And no one really questioned her if she said she was going shopping.Â
She was in her own world, absent-mindedly running bits of fabrics through her fingers. She had too much on her mind to actually pay attention to the clothing in her hands. Thoughts of easier times were on her mind, of her childhood. Playing in Tony's mansion with her father. Long before he had ever known she was stealing the Ant-Man particles and injecting them in small doses into her own body. She wondered if he would be proud of her, if he knew who she was today. If he knew that his little girl was a Young Avenger.Â
A sickeningly, sweet voice echoed in her head and for a moment she had to determine if it was real. Deciding her own mind wouldn't be talking over fashion with her, she turned her head. Ah, Amora Incantare.Â
"I do suppose you are a friend of some sort." She honestly didn't consider Amora to be that of a friend, of someone she could rely on. But, she didn't dislike her, an acquaintance would be a much better description. "To what do I owe this pleasure?"
Bittersweet Reunion (Cassie&Teddy)
The hug surprised Teddy a bit, but he eagerly returned it. It was good to know that Cassie still cared about him even if she was upset with him. She started right in with the serious talk before they even sat down and Teddyâs shoulders hunched. So no small talk to hopefully make her less angry before the lecture.
Teddy sat silently as she thought about what she wanted to say. He knew heâd hurt more than just Billy with his leaving, and Cassie definitely deserved to let her anger out on him. He fiddled with his phone a bit, debating whether texting would seem rude or not. Just as heâd decided a short one couldnât hurt, he heard Cassie take a deep breath.
He forced himself to meet her eyes and not wince as she told him off. The pain in her eyes felt like stab wounds and he really wanted to hug her again. Teddy waited a second to make sure she was done with her bit before taking a deep breath and starting his explanation.
Teddy ran a hand through his hair and glanced away from her. âIt wasnât like I just up and went on vacation. Fury sent me off to Russia to chase after some of Goblinâs serum. It was all rushed and secretive, I wasnât supposed to tell anyone.â He shrugged a bit, fiddling with the bracelets on his wrists. âI should have told Billy, hell I should have taken him with me, but I figured I wouldnât even be gone a week. Some things went sort of wrong and I ended up having to stay for two months.â
The blonde bit his lip and paused for a few breaths. âIt was really, really bad, Cassie. I was in hiding for a while; I couldnât contact anyone, even Fury.â He took another deep breath to control himself before finally looking up and meeting her eyes. âIâm really getting sick of everyone making it seem like I left because I got bored of Billy or something.â
"Cassie, youâve known me for years, you know how much I love Billy. Do you really think I wanted to hurt him? Or you?" Sadness and anger were taking over his mind in equal parts. For Sam to accuse him of purposefully hurting Billy was one thing, but for it to come from Cassie? Teddy knew he wasnât always the best boyfriend, but he sure as hell wasnât as bad as Cassie was making it sound.
Cassie didn't speak, instead choosing to let Teddy explain himself. She was angry with him, but if he had an explanation, she was all ears. She didn't want to be mad at him. She wanted to be happy that he was back, happy that he was home and safe. And while she was, a small part of her was angry. Angry that he'd left without any explanation. Angry that he'd left without telling Billy goodbye. Angry that he had gone without telling her goodbye.Â
Cassie put her head down once he had finished. She didn't want him to see the obvious concern on her face. Didn't want him to know that just the thought of him in danger scared her. Not when she was trying to keep her resolve.Â
"I know, Teddy. I know." She agreed. She knew he would never want to purposely hurt Billy or her, but he still had hurt them. "I know you didn't get bored of Billy, Teddy. I'm not an idiot. I just wish you would have told us where you were going. We were all so worried." She had been. For months, all she could think about was if he was safe. He was one of her closest friends and the thought of him being gone on a mission by himself scared her to no end.Â
She reached her hand out across the table, placed it on Teddy's. "I'm glad you are safe." She withdrew her hand after her statement, needing him to know that she was truly happy for his return. But, she was still hurt. "I'm not mad at you, Teddy. I am mad at the situation. We needed you here. Do you even know what happened to Billy? To me?" She questioned, wondering if anyone had filled him in on the details. "On Halloween, we were sent to a cabin and when we got there, all hell broke loose. Billy's parents were there; dead." She waited before continuing, "I couldn't even help him, Teddy. It was horrible. The next thing I knew I was passing out from some gas that had surrounded the air." She felt tears brimming the edges of her eyes, and swiped them away as fast as she could manage. "I was out for months Teddy. In a coma in the hospital and when I woke up you weren't there." She sighed, "I know it's selfish. I know. Billy and Sam were both there and I should be grateful for that, and I am. But, you. I just- I have known you the longest and you are all like my brothers, but you the most, you know? And it just hurt."Â
She needed to stop before she started crying. So, she drew her head back up, eyes meeting Teddy's. "I just know we can't take you going off again without an explanation. Billy can't take it. And I can't take it."

Well, I know if someone ever did that to me, you would take care of them for me. Right, Uncle T?

You're silly, Uncle Tony. You know that doesn't actually happen, right?
Bittersweet Reunion (Cassie&Teddy)
Teddy sat down heavily at a table near the back of the ice cream shop. Cassie had text him earlier asking to meet, and heâs mostly positive that heâs was ready for it. She was a sweet girl but fiercely protective of those she cares about, after all. Odds are that Teddy was going to get a bit of small talk before a nice lecture that would make him want to shift to child-size and hide under the table for a few years. Honestly, if he hadnât missed Cassie so much he probably would be hiding by now.
It was one thing knowing that Billy was upset, Teddy had left him at the worst possible time, after all. Sam jumping down his throat was unexpected, still deserved though, but didnât hurt nearly as much as it could since he and Sam werenât friends. However, Teddy knew the moment anyone from the original team tried to talk to him about it, heâd break. Cassie hadnât been around to see the two of them together, but she was around for most of the four years. He only prayed that their friendship would let her show him just a little kindness while she was lecturing.
He pulled out his phone to text Billy, what he always did when he was nervous about something, but just as he started Cassie sat down across from him with her usual bowl of cavities. âCassie, hey.â He quickly deleted the text, reminding himself that Billy probably wouldnât be sympathetic towards him about this. âItâs been a while.â Teddy ran a hand through his hair nervously. âSo how have you been?â
Cassie couldn't help herself when she wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug. She knew she had come here to lecture him, and she would. But, he was her friend too and she had missed him while he was gone. She had been worried about him and mad at him at the same time. After she got a good hug out of him, she let him go and set her face.Â
"Listen, Teddy. I wanted to meet with you. I think we have a few things to discuss. I want to get those out of the way first." She truly did. She hated being mad at him and she wanted to get everything off her chest, so that they could go back to being them. To being friends. She didn't want to bother with small talk first. If she did, it was likely that she would change her mind about yelling at him and she couldn't afford to do that. Not now.Â
She sat down her ice cream on the table and took a seat across from him. She closed her eyes for a moment, needing to gather the courage to tell him everything. She had always had a soft spot for her friends, and while she talked a big game, she couldn't stand being mad at one of them. Mostly, when they were sitting next to her and the sweet ice cream fumes were filling her nostrils.Â
She took one more deep breath before opening her eyes and looking at Teddy. "How could you have just left like that? Left Billy? And me?" She started out, the pain most likely reflecting in her eyes. After all, Teddy didn't just leave Billy. He had left her, too. "You know, we needed you. You can't just come in and out of our lives. This time..this needs to be it. Billy can't handle it. You can't keep him around when you want him and then, just leave when you don't."

Bittersweet Reunion (Cassie&Teddy)
She had heard he was back. Again. She had texted him, asking him to meet her at her favorite ice cream parlor. She needed to know why he kept coming and going without so much as a goodbye. But, not so much for her. For Billy. She loved them both (and everyone else on her team) dearly, but she couldn't stand for Teddy to hurt Billy. Not again. She saw how devastated he was when she had awoken from her coma. Noticing that he seemed a little lost without Teddy. But, she had also seen him begin to grow without him. She had watched his eyes twinkle when he was talking about his new crush. Or whatever one chose to call it.Â
However, she too was a little hurt by Teddy. The fact that he hadn't come to see her while she was in the hospital. It hurt. He was one of her closest friends, almost like family. They had known each other since they were kids, first developing their powers. She knew he was away on a mission and things were probably complicated, but he could have at least called.Â
She drew away from her thoughts as she pushed open the door to their meeting place. The instant smell of ice cream and sweets put her in a slightly better mood almost immediately. Seeing Teddy, she decided to make him wait. She went up to the counter and ordered her favorite, a chocolate ice cream with twizzlers and gummy bears. She knew it was a strange combination, but she love it anyway.Â
After paying and grabbing her delicious treat, she walked over to the bistro style table her friend sat at. He seemed distracted and he wasn't looking at her. She cleared her throat to make her presence known, before speaking. "Well, nice to see you again, too."Â
"Thatâs almost exactly what I said.â
"I just hate getting all dressed up for special occasions where I don't even know most of the people." She reaches out her hand, "I'm Cassie, by the way."
