Too Awesome - Perry and Teddy
I shouldn't have left a note... Perry admonished himself for the twelfth time in the last hour. I should have had the guts to just talk to him - he would have for me. It was true, and Perry knew it. Teddy was a much better friend than he would ever be. He knew Teddy would never admit that though, not even to himself. He was too awesome.
He had learned a lot in his time alone, much of which he had spent in accelerated time. Despite only seeming to be gone for a month, he had experienced at least several months in contemplative solitude. He had grown a lot, and in doing so he realized how much growing he had left to do. He had to admit to the darkness inside him, the darkness that is him.
Perry's fingers stretched out as he realized he had left the barriers up around his home. Teddy would be arriving soon, and he'd have trouble breaking through the barriers. A part of him hesitated as the barriers fell. He was afraid of very few things, and Teddy represented on of these fears: the fear of letting down his friends.
While Perry was sure that Teddy would forgive him, he couldn't help but think that he didn't deserve it. Sometimes, Perry thought, his friends were too good. At least, too good to be friends with him. He shrugged. If he hung out with them enough, maybe he'd become good too - and not just pretend good like he was before.
His eyes suddenly focused at the door when he heard Teddy arrive. He erased the frown that had outlined his thoughts on his face before opening the door.Â
"Hey Teddy," he said with a forced smile. "Sorry for ..." Perry couldn't think about what he was sorry for exactly. He had done so much. He had abandoned them, and Billy had been shot as a result. Perry couldn't imagine any bullet penetrating one of his barriers, and he was always so careful to protect his friends. "For everything," Perry concluded.
