Star's Guide to His Omegaverse!
Okay, seriously. This post is just kind of a way for me to keep you guys in the loop on how my omegaverse works without cramming it into every a/b/o I ever write.
I don't really do it the traditional way, I think it's a little too outdated and leaves too many questions. I also do kinda mix in some like wolf shifter themes, even though I'm personally not a fan of shifters. So I think it's best I explain as much as I can without it being too much, just detailed enough.
So without further adu, let's get into it.
F=Female, I=Intersex, M=Male
AF, AI, AM, BF, BI, BM, OF, OI, OM
Commonality of each Combo:
BF and BM make up a majority of the population, with BI being not necessarily uncommon, but rarer.
AM, AF, OF, OI all have similar percentage of population, though they are slightly less of them in the world than betas.
AI and OM make up significantly less of the population in technical terms. OM refers to a male omega with only external male sex organs, but that doesn't necessarily mean OI omegas with both external sex organs or more female looking sex organs can't identify as male. AI refers to alphas who have both male and female sex organs. They're both rare in opposite ways of each other.
Omega genitalia is the main reason I'm making this post as I have a more logical(?) way to explain it than traditional omegaverse does.
Omegas all have biologically female internal organs, with the only exception being some sort of medical condition. Externally omegas can look very different, some examples:
OF's always have a vagina.
OI's can have various external genitalia, ranging from only a vagina to both with a bigger clit/penis. For OI's it literally varies from person to person.
OM's always have a penis and testicles, that can vary in size, but do tend to be smaller. They still have a vaginal canel it's just in a different place(I may have to draw a diagram later). The anal cavity and vaginal canel kinda share, but not really. Let's see if I can explain this in a way that makes sense.
You have the normal anal cavity, but inside there's a thin, but strong layer of skin that kind of opens when necessary(sex, birth, etc., idk). It just moves to the side to close the cavity and open the vaginal canel. From there internally everything's the same.
If that didn't make sense, I'm not sure how to make it make sense. I'm not a doctor so I don't have the technical terms and this is the first time I've actually tried to explain it to anyone.
AO and OA's exist, which stand for alpha-omega and omega-alpha. Both presentations are very rare and almost unheard of. It is essentially being intersex in the second sex instead of the first(as is more common). People with the genes for both omega and alpha aren't super uncommon, but for both genes to be actived is almost impossible as the two genes are incompatible with each other. A person with both presentations may experience both heats and ruts, and the possibility of infertility is high.
An AO is a person with both genes, but the alpha gene is more dominant. They can use commands and their cycles are more like ruts. An OA is a person with both genes, but the omega gene is more dominant. They can't use commands and their cycles are more like heats. Both can have knots, both can have internal female genitalia, but is not always the case.
Now from here, we get into more familiar territory.
A heat is an estrous cycle that can happen anywhere from once every month to once every three months. The purpose of it is to breed offsprings. Omegas in heat are more fertile. Heats vary from person to person, but the average one includes symptoms such as menstruation one to three days before the cycle starts, cramping/pain in the abdomen and back, heat in the abdomen, swelling in the glands, the urge to mate/or alternatively the urge to be close to family. Omegas ages 13-17 tend not to feel the urge to mate, only to be with family, with the only exception being if the find themselves a mate they like early.
A rut is(for lack of better word) also an estrous cycle, but for alphas. Alphas will feel the need to keep their mate/pack close and safe, they may feel irritated when not with their family, they may feel the need to constantly check their home for threats. Alternatively alphas are more fertile in rut and may feel the need to mate with their omega. There is also swelling in the glands and the same applies for alphas ages 13-17 as omegas.
Both get very territorial when strangers are near their packs/nests/dens/mates. An alpha who doesn't feel like the sex they were assigned may be able to replicate symptoms of a heat and vice versa.
A knot is located at the base of an alphas penis and is used to ensure pregnancy. It swells and locks both parties in place for a time during ejaculation.
Permanent Marking/Mating Bites:
A bite to a primary scent gland such as the nape, exchanged by both parties. Marking can be done by omegas and alphas, but not betas.
Temporary Marking/Mating Bites:
A bite to a secondary scent gland such as wrists, thighs, or yes even underarms(though I will never utilize those specific glands). An alternative is also the nape, but one-sidedly. Like one person bites the other, but isn't bitten back. In those cases the claim will faded with time and separation.
Nesting can be done by either omegas or alphas, but is more of an omegan instinct. It's exactly what it sounds like honestly. An omega gathers soft materials(blankets, clothes, etc.) scents them and has their pack scent them, before making a bed in a typically enclosed space called a den(it can be any enclosed room). Dens are normally found by alphas and the size depends on how much said alpha thinks they need for their family. Nest are used for almost all forms of comfort, a lot of omegas even preferring to give birth in their nests rather than hospitals.
A bond can be created various different ways, by various different people. A romantic/mating bond is normally formed by sexual intimacy or close romantic intimacy. A familial/pack bond is formed by close platonic intimacy. A bond can be formed unintentionally, but both parties must consciously want it even if they don't express it verbally. One sided bonds exist as two people start breaking apart, but can not be formed otherwise.
Alphas, omegas, and betas can all form packs. There is no limit to how many people can be in a pack, it could be two it could be hundreds(though unheard of). Only a pack leader can welcome a new member into a pack. Typically the pack leader(s) will be the dam and/or sire of the pack, but not always. If a beta or a nonparent member is the pack leader they won't be considered a dam/sire.
A dam is an omega parent, a sire is an alpha parent. If both parents are omegas or both alphas it is left up to the pair to decide. Though society will try to enforce that a pair stick to the title that matches their assigned sex, it is a mindset quickly falling out of style.
Legal aspects of familial bonding a kit/pup:
Bonding is considered something sacred and legally recognized as all parties must be on the exact wavelength to bond, it's not something that happens all the time. If a dam/sire bonds with a child that is not there's in not just a familial, but parental way it can be legally recognized in court. Though there are some discourses on this, it is still a dated law.
All sexes are considered equal in the eyes of the law, though this wasn't always true. At one point omegas and females that weren't alpha were considered lesser, some still share this mindset though it is no longer widely accepted.
Omegas at one point were considered property, that is no longer the case and now an illegal practice. Though some wealthier families manage to loop around this with things like arranged marriage.
Courting is when one person gives another a personal and meaningful gift to show they'd like to become mates with the gift receiver. Typically an alpha initiates the courting, but nowadays it doesn't really matter. Even betas can court each other. It is still tradition to ask ones parent for permission before courting though.
Suppressants are a medication that either completely suppress or in some cases stop cycles depending on the intensity, Suppressants are comparable to hormone blockers and can not be used as a reliable form of birth control.
Posturing is typically an alpha gesture and done to project one's dominance. Posturing can include, but is not limited to: growling, aggressive scenting of one's space, making oneself seem bigger, and challenging others to prove oneself. Posturing can often be found in carrying omegas, but isn't limited to carrying omegas.
Calling Noises are sounds people may make to call to pack, mates, dams/sires, and pups. Noises aren't limited to any one sex, but are more common in one than others. Keening, whining, mewling, purring, and chuffing are common amongst omegas. Mewling, chirping, purring, and whining are common amongst pups. Chirping and keening are common amongst betas. Growling, chuffing, crooning, and purring are common amongst alphas. Different sounds in different contexts mean different things.
Fucking hell, this is like way more than I thought I'd be writing. I just didn't want to leave people in the dark, but now I feel like no one will read this lol
Well, I guess if anyone does read this all the way through then thanks for being interested and I hope it helps clear up anything for future/current stories. If I missed anything let me know, but this is already a lot lmao
(I'm not revising this unless I have to. I really don't know if I missed anything.)
