A futuristic setting kinda like Star Trek, not Star Wars. A mostly pacific world where the old gods have been forgotten.
Earth is not the only inhabited planet and YES that means there will be at least one saint who is an alien.
When bad signs start to appear, the few people remaining in the sanctuary realize it’s really not over and that they will need to gather the saints and get ready.
Instead of being taken to the sanctuary as children, the apprentices would feel the call of the Cloths. They would have been training on their own to get stronger since they were children because they felt they had to. Some would get special abilities they wouldn’t understand. Maybe there would be people sent from the sanctuary to locate the ones who were suspected to inherit the Cloths. Some candidates would find their way to the sanctuary themselves.
The Gemini Saint is delicate looking, sweet, incorruptible, kinda innocent and an only child. His “other side” only appears during battle when he becomes ruthless. His best friend is the Virgo Saint, they will develop techniques that combine their mental attacks. This would be my useless attemp to stop the silly fights over which saint is the strongest. I would fail, and the fandom would hate me for a lot of reasons, but at least the shippers would have an epic ship.
The Virgo Saint is tough, and a tactician.
My trickster boy-god Priapus is reborn as a baby in this era, trying to play the long game. He approaches the Capricorn candidate and positions himself as another possible candidate. In the end he becomes the Capricorn Saint.
Sagittarius is a woman and masks are of course no longer a thing. Priapus is well liked by others, but she doesn’t like him. She suspects something strange happened when he defeated the one who was the favorite for the Capricorn cloth, her DEAR FRIEND who is also a woman (and I’ll make them CANON) and who is the TRUE HEIR to the Capricorn cloth.
The Pope is also a woman.
Athena reincarnates as someone unexpected (???).
Aquarius is a hippie and kinda lazy but reliable when things get real.
Scorpius is dark and intense, and has an esoteric side.
Yes, they’d still be OTP.
The technology of the time wouldn’t work against the strange things that would start to happen when the war approaches.
At some point the people from the santuary would need to go to another planet to meet the alien(s) candidate, see if the lead they have is correct
Doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work.
Fandom drama would ensue.
