Heart Beat Zero - Part 2
ContinueâŠâŠ
Scene 4: Echoes in the Silence
The echo machine thrummed softly, a portable monitor with a glowing screen propped on the ground beside them. Its wand was slick with gel, the image alive with movement.
Will lay flat on his back, shirt pulled open, skin glowing under the moonlight and machine light.
Kadia knelt beside him, bare fingers tracing along his chest, stopping just over the apex beat. Her stethoscope hung loosely around her neck, but her focus was on the screen now.
Willâs heart thudded visibly on the displayâmuscle contracting in real time. A hypnotic rhythm. It was perfect.
âYouâre beautiful like this,â she whispered, voice low and reverent. âI could watch your heart move for hours.â
Willâs breath hitched. âThen do it now. While itâs still moving.â
She smirked, a dangerous softness in her eyes. âYou trust me?â
âAlways.â
She moved fast. The injector slid in, smooth and practiced, into the side of his neck.
Will felt the chill.
Then the burn.
Then the slowing.
The heartbeat on the screen visibly changed. Slower. Thicker.
Each contraction delayed.
Echoes of muscle. Blood.
Time dripping like oil.
Kadia leaned closer, breath warm on his lips.
âI can hear it,â she whispered. âDying for me.â
She lowered the stethoscope to his chest, her pupils wide, drinking in the sounds.
His heart shuddered beneath her, losing the fight.
Lub-dub⊠lub⊠dubâŠ
Thenâon the screenâit stopped.
Flatline. Echo freeze. Asystole.
The screen went red.
Willâs body was still.
His chest rose once.
Then not again.
Kadia sat there, staring, heart pounding hard in her own ears as she watched the silence inside him.
She straddled him slowly, hovering just over his lifeless chest. Her fingertips drifted across his sternum, ghosting over veins and bone.
âI could keep you like this,â she murmured. âNo noise. No chaos. Just stillness.â
Then she kissed himâslow and deep, the warmth of his lips fading. His body was so soft now, so still under her.
But loveâreal, shaking loveâcoiled in her belly. Because heâd given this to her freely. Because this wasnât just lust.
This was surrender.
She picked up the revival injector, thumbed the capâ
And paused.
âCome back to me,â she whispered. âDonât make me beg.â
She plunged the syringe into his heart and pushed.
Nothing.
The screen stutteredâ
Then spiked.
Lub-dub. Lub-dub.
He gasped awake, seizing upward, lungs clawing for air.
His eyes locked onto hers instantly. âKadiaââ
She grabbed him, buried her face into his neck. âYou were mine. Every second.â
He kissed her temple, dazed. âStill am.â
They held each other on the dirt, sweat and gel and ghostly adrenaline between them.
But thenâshe pulled back. Her face changed.
She was still kneeling. Still breathing hard.
But somethingâshifted.
âWill,â she said softly. âHold me.â
And collapsed.
Scene 5: Her Flatline
âKadia?â
He caught her mid-fall, turning her over, arms already ripping open her vest.
âNo. No, noâKadia.â
He searched for her injector. Sheâd already used itâon herself?
Her chest was bare beneath him, rising weakly, fluttering.
The echo probe slipped from its mount, dragging against her ribs. Will shoved gel onto it, slammed it against her chest.
The echo screen lit up:
Her heart was still movingâbut erratically.
Then it skipped.
Stuttered.
Stopped.
Red screen. Asystole.
âNoâno, not you. Not like thisânot like this.â
Her lips were pale. Her body limp.
He dropped his stethoscope to her chest.
Silence.
His hands trembled as he grabbed the revival syringe, stabbed it into her chest with brutal force.
âCome back. Pleaseâcome back to me.â
He started compressions.
âOne-two-three-fourâdonât you fucking do thisâfive-six-sevenâbreathe, Kadia, breatheââ
Nothing.
Again.
Syringeâsecond dose.
Chest compressions harder. Frantic. Desperate.
âDonât leave me here. Donât die in my arms. Not now. Not when I love you.â
He said it.
Out loud.
âI love you.â
The screen jumped.
One flutter. Then two. Then rhythm.
Her body jerked. Air shot into her lungs like a scream. She gasped, coughing, eyes wild.
âWâWill?â
He dropped to her, holding her so tightly he shook. His face buried in her neck, tears sliding into her collarbone.
âYou scared the fuck out of me.â
Her voice was hoarse. âI⊠I went too far.â
He pulled back, hand over her chest.
âI heard nothing,â he whispered. âAnd Iâve never felt more alone.â
Kadia cupped his cheek.
âIâm here. And next timeââ
She kissed him.
ââyouâre not flatlining without me.â
Scene 6: Between His Hands
The echo monitor still blinked in the backgroundâred replaced with green.
Will sat against the broken wall, cradling Kadia between his knees. Her breath was shallow, lashes damp, sweat cooling on her chest.
Heâd brought her back.
But something wasnât right.
Not just from the flatline.
âKadia,â he said softly, adjusting his body so she was resting against his thigh. âTalk to me.â
âIâŠâ she began, then hesitated. âThereâs something about my heart.â
He looked down, scanning her torsoâsearching.
She slowly took his hand and guided it to the center of her chest.
âI was born without a proper sternum. Reconstruction didnât take.â Her voice trembledânot from fear, but from exposure. From letting him in.
âWillâŠâ she whispered. âYou can feel it.â
And she pressed his fingersâjust twoâinto the soft place at the base of her sternum, where bone shouldâve been but wasnât.
He felt it instantly.
A strong, rhythmic push.
Not hidden.
Not deep.
There.
Her heart.
Right beneath his touch.
His breath caught.
He looked at her, stunned, then slowly lowered his eyes to her chest. And thereâhe saw it. Beneath the thin skin, a visible pulse, rising and falling at the apex, just left of center, at the 5th costal space.
Willâs fingers slidâgentlyâover her skin.
From the base of her sternum to the left, over the soft, warm swell near her breast.
âJesusâŠâ he breathed. âItâs right there.â
She nodded. âYou see now why I hear it all the time. Why I feel it. Why Iââ
âWhy you love it,â he finished, not accusing. Just understanding.
She looked away. âItâs like itâs outside me sometimes. Like it belongs to someone else.â
His voice was hushed, reverent. âIt belongs to me, now.â
He leaned down, mouth brushing the center of her chest, just above the beat. âI know hearts. Iâve studied hundreds. Scanned them. Resuscitated them. But Iâve neverâŠâ
He kissed it.
ââŠseen one like this.â
She trembled under him.
Will retrieved the echo probe, reapplying gel slowly, sensually, over her sternum.
âI want to look inside you,â he said softly. âI want to see everything.â
She nodded.
He pressed the probe to her chest.
The screen lit up.
There it was.
Kadiaâs heart filled the monitorâa stunning, central placement. The muscular walls thick, efficient. But slightly irregular. Something about the rhythmâŠ
Will traced the image with his gloved fingertip.
âYouâve got a rare rotationâyour heart sits midline, anterior. Exposed. GodâŠâ He leaned closer, watching the valves open and close in real time.
âYour apex beat,â he whispered, moving his hand to her side, âcan be seen⊠and feltâŠâ
He slid his hand just under her left breast.
There, tooâthe tapping against his palm, like her heart was reaching for him.
She gasped.
âWillââ
âShh,â he said, gently. âLet me map you.â
He closed his eyes, placing both hands over her chestâone center, one leftâfeeling the rhythm between them.
âYouâre not broken,â he said, forehead pressed to her skin. âYouâre raw. And perfect.â
She laughed softly, tears glimmering. âItâs uglyââ
âItâs not.â His voice was firm now. âItâs you.â
He looked up, his eyes locked on hers. âKadia, I donât just want to listen to your heart.â
He leaned down.
âI want to memorize it.â
He laid flat beside her, pressing his ear to the center of her chest. No stethoscope. No filter.
Just him.
Her.
The skin.
The beat.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Soft, close, alive.
She stroked his hair, breath catching. âYou hear it?â
âI hear us.â
Scene 7: The Silence Between
The firelight from the small camp stove flickered across her skinâacross the swell of her breasts, the curve of her ribs, the gleaming slick of ultrasound gel still clinging to her chest. Her shirt lay discarded beside them, combat gear forgotten, her body laid bare beneath the stars and the field tentâs half-closed flap.
Will knelt beside her, shirt open, chest rising with slow, quiet breaths. His handsâskilled, steadyâhovered just over the place where her heart beat visibly, a rhythmic rise beneath the skin just to the left of center.
No sternum. No protection. Just her.
Kadia lay flat on her back, arms at her sides, heart completely exposed.
âI want to hear you,â he whispered.
And then, reverently, he lowered his head.
His cheek brushed the top swell of her left breast. He exhaled softly over the visible beat.
Then he laid his earâdirectlyâover her heart.
For a moment, he just listened.
Lub-dub⊠lub-dub⊠lub⊠dubâŠ
He closed his eyes, face pressed to her chest. The rhythm was slowâunusually slow.
But beautiful.
âForty-six BPM,â he murmured. âYou always run this cold?â
She nodded weakly. âSometimes lower. Itâs always been slow. ButâŠâ She hesitated.
Will heard it.
A pause.
A gap.
Then a strange, fluttering burstâlike her heart skipped, fell, then stumbled back into rhythm.
His eyes snapped open.
âKadia.â
She clenched her jaw. âItâs happening.â
Will pulled back just enough to see her face, but kept one hand over her heart.
He could feel it changeâas if the muscle collapsed beneath his palm.
Then nothing.
No beat.
Just a dead weight under his hand.
She reached up with trembling fingers, knocked against her own chest.
âSometimes⊠I have to hit it.â
Will caught her hand.
âNo. Let me.â
He lifted his fistânot harsh, but controlledâand delivered a firm, practiced blow with the heel of his palm to the center of her chest.
Her body jolted.
Her back arched slightly.
A second laterâfluttering.
Her heart reacted like a bird startled in the darkâflapping, irregular, painful.
She gasped, her body shuddering.
Will instantly brought the stethoscope to her chest, sliding the diaphragm between her breasts, just over the erratic thumping.
Flutter⊠skip⊠thud-thud⊠skip⊠THUD.
His face darkened with focus. âYour vagus nerve is crashing the whole damn rhythm. That wasnât just a pause. That was asystole.â
She tried to smile. âRomantic, huh?â
He growled softly. âItâs killing me.â
He adjusted her body, lifting her slightly so he could listen more deeply. His mouth brushed the underside of her left breast as he pressed his stethoscope tighter to her skin.
âIâve heard thousands of hearts,â he murmured. âNone like this. None so alive and so close to stopping.â
His hand slid over the beat again.
And he watched itâon her chestâstutter again.
Kadia flinched. âItâs collapsing againâWillââ
He climbed fully on top of her now, straddling her thighs, his bare chest pressed against hers, skin to skin, heart to heart.
âIâll pace you with mine,â he whispered. âFeel me. Let me carry you.â
Her heart stalled again.
And Will didnât move.
He listened. He felt.
He kissed her lipsâsoft, lingering, trembling.
Then he whispered, âYouâre mine. You donât get to stop unless I say so.â
His hand went back to her chestâpressing directly to her apex.
He began to press rhythmically, just enough to stimulate.
Not CPR.
Something more intimate. More knowing.
Tapâtapâtap.
His other hand slid along her side, thumb brushing her nipple, the curve of her ribcage.
âYouâre coming back,â he whispered.
And she did.
With a gasp.
With a painful, staggering series of beatsâirregular, then slow, then steady.
He exhaled. Shaky. Sweating. Eyes shining.
âYou scared me.â
âI always do,â she whispered. âBecause you know what I am.â
He kissed her forehead.
âI know what you are, Kadia Vale.â
His lips trailed down between her breasts, hovering again over the beat.
âYou are the most beautiful heartbeat Iâve ever heard.â
And he laid his head back downâthis time for minutesâjust listening, lips occasionally brushing her skin, letting his fingers memorize every flutter, every tremble.
Every silent second between.
Scene 8: The Long Pause
She was in his arms again.
Her chest still bare, heart still vulnerable beneath the soft lamplight and evening wind that slipped in through the open tent flap. The faint hum of the echo monitor had faded into the background, its screen still lit but no longer trustedânot with what he was feeling under his palm.
Will kissed the corner of her mouth, the space just beneath her jaw, the spot above the pulse he always followed.
âKadia,â he whispered. âHow do you feel?â
She blinked slowly, her body slackening. âLight⊠floaty.â
His brow furrowed.
Her heartbeat was slowing again.
Slower than ever before.
He laid the stethoscope to her chest, directly on the warm skin between her breasts.
Lub⊠dubâŠ
LubâŠâŠ
âŠâŠ
âŠâŠ
His fingers twitched.
âKadia. Stay with me.â
Her lips moved, but no sound came.
Thenânothing.
He jerked upright, head snapping to the monitor.
Flatline.
He looked back downâher chest was not rising.
No breath.
No pulse.
No sound.
No heartbeat.
âKadia.â His voice cracked. âNo, no, noânot like this.â
He dropped to her, ear pressed flat against her chest, right over the place where her heart shouldâve been pounding into his skull.
Silence.
He turned instantly, sealing his mouth over hers.
One breath.
Another.
Another.
Her chest rose under his lipsâbut limp. No response.
He pulled back, looked at her faceâstill, pale, lips turning slightly gray-blue.
He snapped into position, one hand placed on her chestâright over the apexâhis other hand covering it.
And he began compressions.
âCome onâKadiaâone-two-three-fourâcome backâfive-sixâbreatheââ
He kept going, the sound of his hands striking her bare chest echoing in the silence.
Her breasts trembled slightly with each push, but her body gave no resistance, no sign of life.
He leaned down, gave two more breaths. Her lips were cold.
âDonât you fucking do this to me,â he whispered, voice shaking. âYou hear me? You donât leave me. Not here. Not now. Not like this.â
The echo monitor flickered.
Still flat.
Willâs hand flew to his medical kitâripping it open.
He pulled out the portable field defibrillator, hands moving with muscle memory even as his eyes blurred with fear.
He stuck the padsâone just beneath her left breast, one high on her right chest.
The gel sizzled slightly against her skin.
[CHARGE READY â 200 JOULES]
His thumb hovered.
He looked down at herâbare, beautiful, gone.
âI love you,â he whispered. âCome back so I can say it again.â
He hit the trigger.
Her body jerkedâviolently.
Her back arched, eyes fluttered.
Then stillness.
Will moved fastâbreaths. Compressions. Counting again.
âPlease, Kadia⊠breathe. Please, babyâjust one more beat.â
The screen blinkedâ
Then spiked.
One beat.
Another.
Then a rhythm.
She gaspedâchoking, violentâair dragged in like it hurt.
Will fell over her, pressing his face to her chest.
The stethoscope shook in his hand.
Lub-dub. Lub-dub. Lub-dub.
Slow. Erratic. Real.
Her voice came, raw and broken. âWillâŠ?â
He sobbed onceâjust once. Then kissed her chest, her mouth, her cheek, her heart.
âIâve got you,â he whispered. âYouâre back. Youâre back.â
She blinked slowly, tears streaking from the corners of her eyes.
âI heard you⊠calling me.â
He nodded. âI wouldâve torn the world down to bring you back.â
She smiled faintly, reaching for his wrist, guiding his hand back to her chest.
Her heartbeat fluttered under his palmâdelicate, but alive.
And this time, she whispered:
âYours.â
Scene 9: The Drop
Will was still kneeling over herâhands cupping her face, stethoscope resting on her ribs, the warmth of her skin slowly returning under his touch. Her chest rose steadily now, heartbeat slow, but present.
He kissed her again. Softer. With reverence.
Her lips trembled beneath his, and then she smiled.
Not a tease. Not a smirk.
A real smile. Gentle. Fragile.
She whispered, âI love you too.â
Will frozeâjust for a heartbeat.
Those words hit deeper than the silence ever had.
He opened his mouth to answerâ
But her eyes fluttered.
And then rolled back.
âKadia?â
Her body jerked violently, back arching. Arms tensed, fingers curling in unnatural spasms.
âKadiaânoââ
She seizedâher whole body trembling in a violent, uncontrolled rhythm. Her breath caughtâgurgledâand stopped.
Will caught her just as she collapsed fully, her head falling limply to the side.
His hand flew to her chest.
No beat.
He dropped his head to her breast.
Silence.
The echo monitor beeped onceâthen flatlined again.
Asystole.
âNo no no no no no noâGod, not againââ
He grabbed the stethoscope, slammed it over her heart. His hand trembled so hard he could barely hold it.
Nothing.
He ripped it off, mouth to mouth, breathing hard into her lungs. His chest heaved.
âCome back to me,â he begged. âKadiaâdonât you leave me now.â
He started compressions againâover her bare chest, her breasts shifting slightly with each rhythmic push. His palms pressed directly over her heartâs visible location, knowing it had collapsed again, folded in on itself like it had beforeâbut worse.
Her lips were blue now.
He counted aloud, tears threatening: âOne-two-three-fourâbreatheâfive-six-sevenâdonât you fucking dieâKadiaâKadia!â
Still nothing.
His hand flew to the defibrillator again. He slapped new gel pads downâher chest wet, skin burning from the last shock.
[CHARGING â 300 JOULES]
He looked downâher body pale under the field light, breasts rising with his forced breaths, chest twitching faintly with each compression but no pulse, no sound, no life.
He hit the trigger.
Her body arched.
Then collapsed.
The monitorâstill flat.
His voice cracked.
âNo. No. Donât do this. I just got you back. I just heard you say itâdonât leave me nowâpleaseââ
He leaned down and kissed her again, lips brushing hers as he gave another breath. Her head lolled.
His hand cupped her jaw.
âI love you,â he whispered into her mouth. âI love your broken, wild, fucking terrifying heart.â
He placed both hands on her chest again, more gentle now.
âCome back, Kadia,â he said. âIâm not done listening to you.â

⥠KARDIA / 8LOOD8ATH âĄ
GIFT FOR @vampiric-kitty !!!
Scorpio Kardia as your boyfriend hcs
this guy is my boyfriend material, my hear me out and I can talk about him for hours đ
Being a Scorpio, Kardia is intense and passionate. When he likes someone, he gives himself wholeheartedly. You'll know he truly cares about you.
He's the type to take you on adventures, he'll never let you get bored, like climbing a mountain or riding a motorcycle at high speed. (I can totally imagine Kardia on a motorcycle!)
Scorpios tend to be very intuitive, so he'll notice your emotions, even if you don't express them. At the same time, he'll probably be a little reserved about himself at first. You might even think he doesn't want something serious, but it's just that he has a protective barrier around his heart. If you manage to break through that barrier, you'll discover a loyal and caring guy who deeply cares about his friends and the person he loves.
Kardia is intense in everything he does: he loves passionately, fights fiercely, and lives every moment as if it were his last. He's the type of guy who makes you feel alive and shakes you out of your routine. However, his impulsiveness sometimes makes him reckless. He'll need someone who can put him in his place from time to time and who knows how to handle his personality.
I'd say that Kardia, behind his sarcastic facade, would be a surprisingly obedient boyfriend. I imagine him being the kind of guy who, if you said, "Babe, buy me chocolates," he'd respond with something like, "Do you think you're the boss of me?" and then, 15 minutes later, he'd come home with at least ten different types of chocolate for you. đïž We see this in his Gaiden, where Calvera said that he complains a lot, but is obedient and easily persuaded.
Also in the Gaiden, Kardia gets upset and complains that Calvera and Sasha would let him sleep outside, but he immediately stops complaining and changes his mind when Calvera says she won't let a man sleep in the girls' room. In my interpretation, this reveals a gentlemanly side to Kardia, like "Oh DAMN I forgot they are girls and need their space." HE IS A RESPECTFUL GUY!
He is also incredibly jealous and possessiveâ I swear, maybe the most jealous of all the Gold Saints. I mean this man is a Scorpio, he loves and hates with the same intensity. You need to be careful to tame the Scorpio without him stinging you!
Finally, about his love language...
Receiving: Physical touch! This is essential for Kardia to feel connected. I feel like he's the type of man who will always want to be holding your hand or have an arm around your waist. Words of affirmation! Have you ever seen how he likes to assert himself in front of other people? Like when he says to Sasha, "Girl, you are with the Gold Saint of Scorpio, and you are still afraid???" Compliment his strength and courage, and this man will melt.
Giving: Quality time! He truly enjoys alone time with his loved one, whether it's to talk, have fun, or just relax. He will always come to you with new ideas and new places to visit. Acts of service! Kardia is the type who shows love mainly through actions. He will do anything that will make you happy, such as helping you with a difficult task or defending you from any danger, even (trying to) prepare dinner for you.
Camus: Milo no me tracionaria asi
Camus: ÂĄMilo no me tracionaria asi!
Degel: DespuĂ©s de engañarlo en Asgard y todavĂa crees que te serĂĄ fiel
