The music was loud, that kind of loud where it doesn’t hurt your ears anymore because it is so loud you don’t hear it- you feel it. She was holding their hand in one hand and a red plastic cup in the other. They move around clumsily and sip their alcohol- it doesn’t taste good. She tugs them closer as the people around them start counting down. “Ten! Nine! Eight!” She thinks about how she wants to spend the rest of her life with them. “Seven! Six!” They smile at her and feel like they could take on the whole world. “Five! Four! Three!” She places her hand on their cheek. “Two!” The pair kiss and suddenly they’re the only people in the world. “One!” “I love you” “Happy New Years!”

The fireworks are booming in the background, but he’s inside. He slips into the dark room as the countdown starts everywhere else. Ten seconds ‘til New Years. He stands over the crib and admires her. Nine. Eight. Seven. He strokes her small cheek and smiles. Six. Five. Four. He pulls up her covers to her chin. Three. Two. He kisses her forehead. One. “I love you, princess.” He whispers and leaves his newborn daughters room.

Ten. Nine. Her stepmother wraps an arm around her shoulders and squeeze her softly. Eight. Seven. “You know I love you, right?” She asks, and her stepdaughter nods. Six. Five. “I love you too.” They look down at their husband/father from the balcony and smile. Four. Three. He lights the firework and it shoots up into the sky. Two. One. It explodes and her stepmother places a kiss on her temple. “Happy New Years.” They watches as the next firework explodes into the dark night sky.

They only just met and now they’re standing together in the crowd. “Ten! Nine!” “So, neither of us have anyone to kiss.” “Eight! Seven! Six!” “We could kiss each other.” “Five! Four!” “Alright, why not?” “Three! Two!” He grabs the stranger around the neck gently. “One!” They kiss and fireworks fly- literally and metaphorically. “Happy New Years!” If only they knew what this year had in store for the two of them.

I’m not cute Jihoon likes to be called lots of things, but in no way, shape or form has he said he would like to be called adorable or cute. Jihoon doesn’t think people like going out with cute people, but Seungcheol begs to differ.
