in my headcanons I was also quite bummed about this so I changed it to ‘dam’ and ‘sire’ as opposed to mum and dad; so you can have a kid go ‘oh my dad was my dam’

a few days ago i promised to write a post about the misceverse and how it applies to myself/my identity. so, here it is!
[as a disclaimer, im still very much aroace so rest assured this post will be completely sfw. however, im aware that some people can be uncomfortable with this stuff so ill be putting the post under a read more]
so, omegaverse. a few of you may remember my post/essay on how i view gender through draconic lenses, and how my species classifies ourselves not with sex but with how we contribute to society, our Role. well, last week i saw some of my mutuals (shout-out to @/were-bastard and @/professional-jaywalker, the birds ever /pos) reblog stuff about something called the misceverse, which was inspired by omegaverse fanfic tropes, and... well. it piqued my interest. i had read a few of these stories myself when i was younger, so i knew more or less about what it was all about, but i didnt know there was an entire community centered around it!
what struck me the most about these communities was the normalization and celebration of animalistic behaviours, specifically as they relate to relationships, something that, as a nonhuman, is obviously very appealing to me. i struggle a lot to express affection in the expected/"human" way, as my instincts tell me to act more like the creature i am. things like nesting, scenting, giving gifts or having a special language of animal noises to communicate with your loved ones are things i do naturally, and that i fight to suppress every day. upon seeing all this in the misce community, plus the classifications that match so perfectly with my dragon Roles, i was sold.
so, what even is misceanimalis?
also called miscecanis, its a community centered around the omegaverse, that is, a universe where people have secondary sexes as well as the normal ones: alpha, beta or omega. (they were inspired by that one study on wolf behaviour and pack dynamics, which i find really funny bc its considered incredibly inaccurate nowadays). people on this verse exhibit animal behaviours like nesting, forming packs, making animal noises or "subvocals", and, of course, experiencing mating cycles (i will not get into that last part, but basically omegas have heats and can get pregnant while alphas have ruts and can get people pregnant; betas are usually the "normal" ones, but this may vary between verses). also! a very important thing in omegaverse is scenting. everyone has a unique scent, so people can identify your dynamic right away; its used as a way to mark your territory and your mate and to express emotions.
about me!
dynamic: i am bidynamic; both an omega and a beta, also called a gamma or oeta.
for me, this means that im socially neutral (but leaning submissive), i exhibit protective and nurturing behaviours like an omega, and give a calming effect to people like a beta. my presentation though is fully omega: i am very timid, uncertain and introverted, though if im feeling confident enough i can come off as more casual/laid-back.
scent: my scent is vanilla, very sweet as is typical of omegas (funnily, i found that this scent is almost unbearable for most people, but i adore it).
i use vanilla body lotion and perfume for myself, and a soft vanilla air freshener for my den.
behaviours: i am misceavian, which means my behaviours are mostly based on birds (nesting, gift-giving, mating dances, all that stuff). my subvocals are both avian and draconic: purring, chirping, etc. i also experience heats but they are very mild, and are less frequent than for monodynamic omegas.
anyway, i think thats enough for today! wow i rambled a lot, didnt i? i hope you enjoyed reading this, and maybe even fell for my propaganda i mean, considered a misceanimalis identity for yourself! i found that the community is very nice and open-minded, and i think more alterhumans could benefit from joining it!
just dived into the misceanimalis community, aka a/b/o inspired dynamics as a gender marker + a way to Do relationships (Right now i'd place it in my head as analogous to polyamorous, as an identity? in the sense that it forms mostly around partner dynamics but that's me having been in it for a few hours at best).
It's really interesting from a therian perspective, and although obviously canines and it seems felines are most common, i'm finding bird stuff ! It's a very neat way for me to actually express what i'm looking for in a relationship, since at its core it integrates nonhuman courtship. It's definitely more "everything about a relationship" than saying petplay or primal ! I quite like it.

also, same, as an aroace bird therian, misceavian identities are essentially another way to express how I interact with others- the dynamics a parallel to gender, and the specific animal traits of the ‘verse a parallel to who I am as a bird in a human society. While I've not been posting, misce has still been in the back of my mind, and I'm about 70% sure I'm predominantly a beta- guess I'm joining the tumblr beta family! Still probably got some hints of alpha and omega if I'm being honest, but I think I stay at predominantly beta.
In regards to the dynamic generator mentioned in a previous post a while back, it's still in the works! I haven't had a lot of time to work on it in between my irl commitments unfortunately. Why do I even code.
(Also, I discussed my misce identity with my partner and it went very well :D they're already very used to my therian shenanigans, but you bet im making them courting gifts as we speak)

Omegaverse is not miscecanis/misceanimalis: the difference
Because of crosstagging and because without context they look so similar, it seems like people have gotten the idea that Miscecanis is another word for Omegaverse when this isn't at all true!! so I'm here today to clear things up.
Omegaverse is a fictional setting/world with three additional genders (Alpha, Beta, and Omega). I'm going to assume that if you're seeing this you're familiar with it and leave it there.
Miscecanis is a community based around people taking concepts and practices from Omegaverse fiction and applying it to their REAL LIFE gender identities or lifestyles- it's identifying as an Alpha as your gender identity, or having a specific perfume you wear all the time for a scent. Living in an apartment with six people you all consider pack, referring to your bed as a nest or possibly actually building a blanket fort type structure to BE your nest.
It's not roleplay or anything like that, it's people's real identities and experiences.
Not everyone in miscecanis handles it the same way or to the same extremes- I don't want a pack and don't plan to get one, not every single person has a scent, etc- but in general it's about taking parts of the Omegaverse that resonate with you and incorporating that into your IRL day to day, and your identity.
It is not inherently sexual because for a lot of us it's just how we feel about our genders and how we want to live our lives, but it can have an element of sex to it if you identify with it for sexual reasons. how sexual or not sexual it is depends on the individual, the lifestyle and genders themselves are just....genders and a lifestyle.
It has a lot of overlap with kin & therians as well as some overlap with MOGAI. There are lots of flagmakers and coiners in the miscecanis community, and folks who are kin or therians will sometimes incorporate it into their misce identity.
There's more to find and learn if you're interested in exploring the community, but this is all the general public needs to know to separate out Omegaverse from miscecanis so it's all I'm going to share in this post- I wanna keep it a short PSA. Thanks for reading and please reblog!!!

Hi y’all I’m back from some moderate soul searching and I’m considering if alpha/beta is a better descriptor for me over alpha/omega…. I used to vibe with omega more but now that I consider it I’m tempted by the beta label more than I do the omega which is very interesting
Not to bother you, but what's it like being misecanis? I can't find much on y'all's experiences, but rooting around through a few tags and seeing your posts has me questioning it, especially the dynamics stuff.

so! Miscecanis!! The basic definition is identifying as/with the omegaverse, whether as an identity or lifestyle. For me, it feels a lot like my other kintypes- I am a Beta in the same way I am a dragon or an angel. I've always felt a strong connection to the omegaverse dynamics, and even said I had an 'omegaverse kintype' before i had heard of miscecanis!! But there are a ton of different ways to be miscecanis, and my experiences definitely aren't the end all be all. Hope this helps!! Others feel free to add on!
Being miscecanis is both a lifestyle, an identity and an expression for me
It's a lifestyle in the sense that I actively embrace and incorporate the a/b/o structure and instincts that are associated with it in my irl. Examples can include:
Identifying with and as a scent and buying things that make me smell like it
Simply just incorporating omegaverse terminology in my daily speech (referring to my bf as alpha or mate)
Embracing instincts such as nesting and turning my bed into a nest of blankets and plushies
It's an identity in the sense that I can explore parts of my personality through figuring out and identifing with the dynamics and how fluid they can be in this community. Miscecanis also merges a lot into my alterhuman identity as well and helps me explore that side of myself. I am an omega/beta canine and an omega angel and it just feels right. It solidifies my connection to my kins by a lot and gives it a depth that makes it addictive to want to figure out more about how my identity interacts in a miscecanis lens.
And it's an expression of my identity and myself. I express as an omega/beta and it makes me feel more comfortable with myself. And it also helps me and my bf express our love for one another in a very unique way!
But another aspect about being miscecanis is the community it has made. Through the flags and the terms and others explaining their thoughts about being an omega/beta/alpha or other alterhumans expanding on their kins by coming up with dynamic specific titles has made the experience of being miscecanis much more engaging and fun! I love making posts about miscecanis and interacting with other misceverses and blogs!
So I guess TDLR; being miscecanis is like a lot of things lol
Adding on to previous posts, I’ve identified with alpha/beta since practically my first encounter with the omegaverse, and probably before when this term was coined. For me I am an alpha/beta in the sense of how I interact with others; I just feel these terms describe me the best. I also identify with misceavian in particular as I am a birdkin, and while I don’t experience my misce identity the same way as I do my otherkin, I feel as if I am an alpha/beta in an avian way. Quickest explanation would be something like those omegaverse + wingfic tagged works!
