One thing that I absolutely love about New Vegas is that V*lpes Inc*lta canonically sucks ass at his one and only job. A level 4 courier can kill him in Nipton with the explosives they find in the first town. He walks onto the strip in a dumb suit and every named character in a 50 mile radius goes “hey, isn’t that Caesar’s furry bitch boy?”. If you remove his uwu hat and sunglasses he looks like Adam Sandler. He just sucks.

idk if this is an unpopular opinion but i hate depictions of arcade as just being straight up mean to the courier and insulting their intelligence or acting really superior about his own intelligence.

and he’s canonically not like that at all. he agrees to join couriers with low intelligence just for the sake of helping them out, and he’s really patient and nice to them when he explains things they don’t understand.

the only time he insults the courier is when the courier hurts innocent people or helps/expresses agreement with the legion which is a completely warranted response on arcade’s part

it seems like we got rid of ~sassy gbf~ arcade (which like. thank god) in fandom but then that shitty characterization was just replaced with this smug know-it-all arcade whose only personality traits are being snarky and The Smart One

and i know we all use hyperbole for jokes and that’s part of where this comes from and it’s not like a malicious thing people are doing - i don’t mean to suggest that.

but he is such a complex and dynamic character and it just sucks to see him reduced down to one or two traits, especially when that leads to ignoring other prominent aspects of his character like his compassion and patience

the enclave oil rig was destroyed in 2242, 45 years before the events of fallout 4. if the chosen one was, say, 20 at the time, that would make her 65 years old now, falling within mama murphy’s possible age range

dialogue reveals that in her youth, mama murphy killed a deathclaw in a single shot. in fallout: new vegas, jas wilkins in sloan makes a reference to the fact that her great-aunt rose, owner of rose’s bed and breakfast in fallout 2, kept a deathclaw that was killed when “a stranger” shot it in the eye.

more dialogue reveals that she used to be very muscular and adept at unarmed combat, skills which she could have learned while trying to find that geck

the chosen one used tons of chems. i don’t have a source for this but anyone who’s played fallout 2 should get what i’m saying

she bears a resemblance to the arroyo elder in fallout 2, who is actually the chosen one’s mother

the vault dweller (the chosen one’s grandparent) was the owner of the original dogmeat, and it’s possible to get that dogmeat as a companion again in fallout 2 if you get the cafe of broken dreams random encounter. could this dog have a link to fallout 4′s dogmeat? possibly

if kellogg can wander all the way to the commonwealth from california then mama murphy could’ve done it too

I hate that the NCR will just let you walk into any base or forward camp or go dick around the power plants at Hoover Dam without so much as a “hey um do you have authorization to be here” even if you’re shunned, while the Legion has the foresight to challenge you trying to walk into Nelson or Cottonwood Cove even if you’re an absolute nobody who’s done them no harm and they’ll at least ask what the fuck you’re up to.

This isn’t praise of the Legion this is an indictment of the NCR like have you geniuses ever heard of controlled access? ECPs?

Arcade Gannon has been at the back of a tent at Old Mormon Fort jamming fruit together to make new medicine and somehow he still knows Vulpes Inculta on sight, by name and reputation, as a Legion spy and talks about him like everyone knows this so I’ve joked that Vulpes sucks at his job but honestly even if he does Vulpes still gets his job done because the NCR will just let him waltz in literally anywhere.
