Okay that virus that’s going around, is seriously fucking scary. I got the same thing on my computer about a week ago and I got rid of it, but it took a lot. This type of virus can control your browser, it can control your webcam, it can control all your files, and track you.

If you’ve seen the post already, do not click on the user if someone like this follows you. 

 If you do on accident, you will be taken to an FBI site, which tells you you’ve viewed pornography and stuff. Looks a little like this…

It asks you to pay a fine. ITS NOT REAL. DO NOT PAY IT. You won’t be able to leave the page, or close your browser. Your computer is probably infected now, and you need to remove it.

Click ctrl-alt-delete at the same time and open task manager. Shut down your browser. Uninstall it completely. 

Reset your computer to the last known date when you didn’t have the virus.  

Install and Run malawarebytes. It’s a free service, that get’s rid of all bugs in your computer. The download link is here. Most antivirus softwares can’t detect things like this, so your best bet is to just download it. Run a full scan to ensure your computer is clean.

Restart your computer, and you should be fine. 

The main thing here is to not panic. I did, and it just makes the situation worse than it really is.  

If you have seen a post about it, you’ll see that icon, and a URL with random letters. Please don’t risk it, you’ll have to work really hard to get it off your computer. Be careful, and DO NOT PANIC. Here is another tutorial on how to get rid of it, 

Often times, people neglect the basics. They see amazing parts that are already rigged wonderfully and they think; “Wow, I have to make a model out of these!”. They put all of the parts together, they follow all the steps they think they’re supposed to make- but the rigging somehow turns out wrong. Why are there all these sharp edges? Why isn’t it smooth? Let me explain why- and I’ll go into a couple of things in blender that will help you improve. You won’t miraculously be able to rig like a god after this, but you will at least get the building blocks required to improve. Lets first test the waters in bone placement and how that has a big impact.

This is a general map of where I’ve rigged. You can see where I placed my bone. That is the correct area to place it. Think of it this way- 50 is where the bone under the joint has the same pull strength as the joint, creating a fold. This fold mimics joints as they extend and retract their arm, wrist, ankle or knee and it helps for a better and more fluid movement. The gradient you see here (25-100) is the standard rigging element of a finger. Normally, fingers are so small that rigging isn’t a huge problem and you could get away with a 50-100 ratio rather than going the full gradient.

As you can see, bone placement is a key factor in the success of your rigging. Not too high, not too low. It’s like the Goldilocks effect with MMD. (Sounds kinda fun.).

Now let’s hop into blender- there’s something I’d like to show you that might help out some modelers if they’re looking for a small tip with elbows. This can also go for MMD editors who are looking for a way to make their models work better but don’t have the skills to model themselves.

What I’ve done is I have taken a knife tool and made a V shape and dissolved the edge lines in the middle of that V. I’ve done this on BOTH SIDES, creating a plane for the vertex to collapse in on itself. An example; Montecore models often do this on their elbows. This is actually an EXTREMELY good tactic to use.

As you can see, the inner fold collapses on itself- which is extremely useful for elbows, the folds of the knees and ect. It’s normally not needed on fingers but can be a very nice detail.

To move an object to another layer go to “Object Mode” and hit the ‘M’ key (or whatever button that brings up the ‘move to layer’ box) and select an empty box. Once you do this, go to the rows of boxed at the bottom, hold shift, and select the box to make in invisible

One person asked me if I can give them some tips for MMD Manipulations. So..why not? Let’s start!

First thing you need to know about MMD Manipulations - it’s NOT just drawing hair, adding lens flares and placing a model in the space. FUCK NO. At least come up with something original. I’ll give you some examples of my works (actually first and third are collabs), that prove my point.

Another thing - don’t copy other artists. Sure, you can take some inspiration, but ffs, ispiration doesn’t mean “OH I LOVE THIS ARTWORK, LET’S MAKE SOMETHING EXACTLY THE SAME”. People will fucking slay you.

1. Drawing hair

First things first - if you want to start drawing hair, you need to prepare yourself for about an hour to make it look decent, if you’re gonna make more than just thin strands. I’m not joking. Good shading, choosing colors, smoothing, blending - it all takes a lot of time. You can draw hair in lots of ways:

Only single thin strands of hair

Drawing extra hair strands on hair

Removing hair and drawing it from zero

What you need, is graphic tablet. If you don’t have graphic tablet, for fucks sake don’t even try drawing hair. In 99% cases it’ll look shitty af. Then just don’t do it. Seriously.

I myself made my own hair brush. But I’m sure you can find some legit ones on DeviantART. Also, PaintToolSAI has really nice one for hair, idk how it was called, I do my hair work in Photoshop sooo…

I can’t really show you the right way to do hair, everyone has their own style (MMDC and own style? HAHAHHA NICE JOKE, KAASU) so instead I’ll show you what you SHOULDN’T do.

This is NOT hair. These are fucking caterpillars. Also, don’t repeat my mistake:

Seriously just…don’t do this. This doesn’t look good AT ALL. 

Here are some tips:

DO NOT make hair too detailed. It’s like if you’d draw a simple face and BAM, REALISTIC NOSE! This is how it looks. Not good, shitty.

DO NOT pick random colors. Sample them from hair. You can add some other tint to it, but please, don’t make it too drastic.

DO NOT MAKE CATERPILLARS. FOR FUCK’S SAKE.

DO NOT force yourself. If you can’t draw hair, just don’t do it. Simple as that. You can do a good MMD Manip without fancy hair, trust me.

If you are a stubborn bitch and really wanna draw hair, use hair brushes/stocks. If you want a tutorial on how to use them, let me know, I’ll make a tutorial for that.

2. Lightning

So, you have your render done, now you need lightning, huh? Lemme give you some tips on lightning then.

You can do lightning in many ways:

By creating a new layer, filling with black, adjusting the opacity and erasing parts you don’t need (or using a mask)

By curves

By levels

By Hue&Saturation

Really, whatever you do, anything works.

Let’s see how correct lighning looks like first. Let’s use this big fucking yellow dot as a light source. I’m not gonna make any light color, I’m too lazy, forgive me. I’ll demonstrate backlight and frontlight.

And now what you shouldn’t do:

Like, shit, hell, dude, what were you smoking?

When you do a backlight, you can add some light to the eyes, but not to the whole face. It just…doesn’t make any sense.

Some tips for you:

Make a layer and mark every light source. Really, it helps a lot.

Just read about lightning in some art book. Why? Because fuck you, that’s why! Because it really can help you when you’re just starting.

3. Background and choosing stock images

Good background is as important as the model you use, believe it or not. How to make a good background? Well, you can be a lazy fucker and just slap a model in the background and take all praise for that, or you can try a little harder and compose it yourself, so your background will be unique.

If you decide to be a lazy fucker - shame on you, keep being a walking disgrace you really should try harder, it’s totally worth it.

If you decide to draw a background…well, good luck, I drew it once and the result was KINDA OK, however I’ve never been good at drawing so drawing it by myself made me wanna fucking kill myself, but oh well.

If you decide to compose it from stocks, here are my tips for you:

Find good quality stocks. If you wanna do an image in HD/4K/8K, you should find fitting stocks. That’s why 1000x480 for 8K is an ultimate NO.

Use Hue&Saturation. Stocks needs to look good with themselves, so be sure to adjust their color/saturation! BUT DON’T TOUCH THE BRIGHTNESS, YOU HAVE FUCKING LEVELS FOR THAT.

You can find nice stock images on DeviantART. But I also recomment to check art forums, especially French ones. If you wanna be 100% MLG pro - best stocks ever are on Shutterstock. But you actually have to pay for them so just stick to DeviantART and forums, ok kiddo?
