Acting like you can only get meaningful magical results if you use their language, their symbols, etc.

I think something people often overlook is that stuff that’s unfamiliar to us can feel more powerful simply because it sets off the “ooh shiny new thing!” reaction in our brains. And expecting to get results, I believe, makes it more likely that you will.

Do you think that people really had money to go buy 5000 different pieces of equipment and ingredients? Nah.

Grow what you can. Buy your supplies in affordable ways. Reuse things you already have. And fuck anyone who tells you your craft won't work.

Hmmmmm, I think that could work but since I have never tried it I don't know for sure. Honestly, I think the placement of a sigil can be very important (like having a sigil for sweet dreams under your pillow for example), but that's certainly not the case for all sigils.

It'd be interesting to find out! Try it out with something simple and see if it works. At the very least there would be no harm in it :)

So, in my understanding of sigils, it's not the "burning" part that actually charges the sigil - the sigil is charged while it's being made, or it can be charged by sunlight/crystals/a multitude of other things. The "burning" part is moreso what activates the sigil.

So, in your circumstance, I definitely think the "fading" of your sigil could be seen as its activation - however, the question then becomes, "how do I charge the sigil?"

In your case, I would recommend using moon or sun water, or even water infused with specific herbs or crystals that correspond with your sigil's intent, to paint the sigil.

wear devotional jewelry (typically a symbol that is associated with them, but can be anything as long as you designate it)

create something with them/for them (poetry, drawings, cook or bake, build something, etc)

research their myths

create playlists for them and listen to those playlists

do you like sandbox games? create a shrine, temple, altar, etc for your deities in those games (like minecraft, terraria, stardew valley, etc)

go on a walk outside and invite them with you

thank them. thank them for anything and everything

take care of yourself as a devotion to them. if you want to specify, you could do this with a deity that is more closely related to self care (my mind immediately goes to Aphrodite or Hera), but any deity would appreciate you taking care of yourself; they love you

set aside a day of the week to be “their” day and spend time with them, give them offerings, etc that day (some deities are associated with days of the week; apollo for sunday, artemis for monday, thor and zeus for thursday, to name a few)

Howdy! I am actually asthmatic and smoke can really mess me up so I understand your struggle.

There are many reasons why someone can't or wouldn't want to use fire in magic such as asthma, having small children, having pets, their residence doesn't allow it, they're in the broom closet, etc.

In reference to herbs:

The wonderful thing about herbs is that you can use herbs without burning them!

You can hang them above doorways and windows to keep out bad vibes or to bring in good vibes.

You can also place them in whichever area of the room that you need them for, like under your pillow for dreams or on your desk for focus, etc.

You can do a simmer pot, allowing the steam to permeate the house rather than smoke.

You could do a room spray/sprayable incense (I'll try to write about how to do this soon!).

In reference to spellcraft:

Burning is just one of the many mediums used for magic but it isn't necessary.

You can bury a spell to dispose of it (if it's environmentally safe to do so).

You can use candles in place of incense.

They do make low-smoke incense but if you can't handle smoke at all then please ignore this tip!

If you're trying to dispose of something, you can throw simply throw it in the trash, you don't have to burn it or get rid of it in any flashy manner, it's a personal preference. I know some say it can feel rude or disrespectful to do so but in my opinion, it's fine most of the time to just toss the item in the trash. Unless it can be recycled! Then please recycle it!

There’s something I’d like to clear up about on Deity/Spirit work and for those starting out, whether as a beginner witch or just with working with a deity / a spirit for the first time.

There are good intentions as well as good reasons behind more experienced practitioners telling you deity work / spirit work is not for beginners, which largely is for those reasons being for your own safety and/or protection.

However, I feel it is also a bit misleading, with regards to Deity/Spirit work also.

The reason, for this, being that: it’s not to discourage you from trying to work with either a Deity or a Spirit. It’s usually because you lack experience with other areas of your practice and craft, which leads us to think you’re not quite prepared for all the needs and dangers of what working with a Deity or a Spirit entails.

Quite often, you need to know what a lot of folks commonly refer to as the Basics.” This includes knowing several means of protecting yourself/ your home and those around you, how to banish both an entity or energy should something go wrong, a means of communicating with the entity (such as a clair sense ability or a method of divination) , and several other things. And that’s just to start with. I feel it’s also important to note, that doing research on a Deity or Spirit, should not just include the myths/lore, but also any cultures their tied with, and religions/pantheons as well.

Learning to vett (as in get to know about) about a deity or spirit, can be a little confusing at first, without having done so much as read about them, let alone have ways to go about learning or beginning to talk to them.

You wouldn’t want to rush into a band claiming to know all about an instrument and music and how to play and how to do all songs at once would you? If not, then consider approaching your newfound interest with deity or spirit work much the same way. You take small steps to learn a few basic skills first, and then add on more as you grow. It will help you avoid tricksters and troubles later on a bit as you do.
