“Ahh, Sitri! That’s a pretty name,” he offers her a compliment. Zack had always thought his first name was a little simple, being something pretty common. Whenever he met new people, he always had an easier time remembering ones that sounded unique or different. Though, it was very rare for Zack to forget anyone’s name in general. He was committed to remembering everyone he had ever met, ever the people pleaser. Zack liked making friends, and introductions were always the first step.

Upon receiving confirmation that his earlier assumption was correct, he nods, then shakes his head. “No, no, it’s not a dumb question! I… sorta guessed,” Zack says sheepishly, rubbing at the back of his head. “Since your eyes look different, I mean. But uh, me, I’m a SOLDIER, First Class. Recently promoted, in fact!” He informs her proudly, even slightly puffing out his chest and standing up even straighter. It was a bit of a show, though, to himself, and anyone nearby that was close enough to overhear.

In reality, becoming First didn’t feel as awesome as he thought it would. But that’s something he would be keeping to himself.

“Have you ever met another SOLDIER yet?”

you were an oddity , in name and appearance . though , that was nothing to be ashamed of . heat rushes to your cheeks , dusting them a light shade of red at the compliment . you weren’t used to this , but it wasn’t unwelcomed . “ my eyes are glazed over , so i’ve been told . “ it wasn’t an issue . working around your disability was as natural as breathing . 

“ SOLDIER , first class ? “ you knew what that meant . “ color me impressed . “ a smile , more genuine than the last . “ i haven’t . you’re the first one i’ve ever met . “ you’re more relaxed now . flushed appearance here no longer as you calm yourself . how odd that you’re letting your guard down ever slightly around a complete stranger . that just seemed to be the effect he had on people .

𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐋𝐄𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆. she respected those who would give her the same time of day that she would offer. perhaps people were blind, blind to her and anyone around them. to be pulled into the hustle and bustle of a day was difficult enough.

the cetra is still surprised, happy to have such a nice gesture, but now the other worries about whether she had come prepared. aerith finds herself looking into her bag, something she carried with her with many nooks and crannies, but mostly things for her flowers; which never left her. no protection for herself against the harsh rays of light though. ❝ guess i didn’t really think about it —❞ why did she not in the first place ? even she has to wonder. a head tilts to the side. ❝ do you mind ?❞ in request to sunscreen, a hand comes to outstretch towards the other. perhaps she forgets to say thank you in moments like this.

you give a small smile . “ not at all . “ and so , you hand over the bottle of sunscreen . the sort of waterproof spray rather than a sort of lotion like substance . one of the strongest types to protect your porcelin skin . without it , your sin would be burned in about thirty minutes . not making that mistake , again . you learned your lesson from the last time you went out without it .

The SOLDIER had a few hours to spare in between assignments today, and when the invitation arose, he took it. He needed a reason to leave the building and it just so happened that cake was more than enough of one. “Yup, that’s right,” he confirms for her, feeling glad she remembered his name from when they first met. Zack looks across the table at her, then around the room. It’s not too busy, given the time of day, but he wonders if the crowd will begin picking up in the next twenty minutes.

“Hm? Why’s that? I like sweet stuff, too, you know! Unless… aww man, don’t tell me, you wanted someone else to take you up on your offer?” His tone changes, jokingly suggesting that Sitri may not have wanted him to come along.

an absolute dork , this one . he really was an interesting one . it may have been sort of true that sitri wanted annette to join her instead - zack was a pretty alright guy to spend time with . it’s a win either way . she sets her menu to the side , already knowing what to order as she gives a small , playful smirk . “ maybe . “

the sound of waves crashing were enough to keep sitri relaxed in all of this heat . her parasol previously shielding her from the harsh uv rays of the sun until now . she’d would  ‘look’  down at the other , nodding in response . “ it’s ok . “ she moves to sit beside aerith . the laced parasol now being shared between the two .
