Because OP turned off reblogs 30 minutes before i saw this post.
If you follow Selmers to the poetry society meeting in Night In The Woods, this is her poem. I loved it and the themes of the game, and wanted to use it as practice to see if i can control the way readers ‘hear’ the words through images.
Have I said lately that I fucking love this game
Oh my gods, There Is No Reception in Possum Springs is my favorite moment in that game and this comic captures it perfectly.

my personal pick for most underrated animal is the european legless lizard, which i think is often taken to just look like a normal and rather plain snake, but if you're familiar with reptile anatomy at all it looks more like some sort of bizarre heraldic fantasy creature than basically anything else on earth
it's called the lateral groove and is literally a sort of seam in it's body that's always present:
I /think/ what's going on is that these evolved from something like alligator lizards, which have very rigid, slippery underbellies next to soft, stretchy skin on their sides (where their legs are situated), but now that they've evolved to be a "snake" and don't have legs that need to move around, that soft skin has decreased and turned into a weird little seam so they can slither easier and don't have a big weak point in their sides. it's compensation to have nice smooth scales all over like a snake would, imperfectly using the lizard anatomy they're working with
basically it's the leg removal surgery scar evolution dealt them
I need to show everyone this Xigou hound

People love this nature shit too much. What’s the ROI on pandas? How important are koalas in a Roth-IRA? What’s the current market cap on sunfish?
Deeply unserious animals. Bro above is only a pointless animal because he owns no land.
In all seriousness though, people think these animals are pointless because they produce marginal utility for humans and are very difficult to conserve. Some basically fight conservation. Pandas don’t want to cream pie each other and koalas won’t eat their one and only food source if you put it on a plate instead of a twig.
Further, while some animals are key to the continued health of ecosystems, animals like pandas really aren’t. There simply are not enough of them left to make a huge difference in the global climate.
Conservationists, because they value each instance of life’s incredible diversity, will go to any length to keep these genera alive. Other people, who don’t really give a fuck and have work in the morning, are not convinced that they should burn millions of dollars and tank the lumber industry just so an ugly little bear who’s too dumb to eat/cum can be forced into continued existence.
When people say something has a point, they usually mean it serves to benefit humans in some way. These animals benefit nerds like me because we think animals are neat. If you don’t think they’re neat, there really is no point in allowing them to exist.
Plenty of species are averse to reproducing in captivity, plenty of species also have low fertility for various reasons. Why are you defending the lumber industry?
So a couple things on this. I can appreciate what is being gone for - that without European colonialism, the Americas would have developed radically differently from what they are today (note that the big header of "prior" differs from the actual image caption which puts it in 2015, making it alt-history).
But while Central America absolutely had conquering empires, particularly the Aztecs, North American tribes almost universally vehemently reject any notion that they have anything in common with Western imperialism, so seeing all sorts of "Empires" and "Supremacies" on this map ain't great.
Also a lot of the names on here were given by Europeans - "Iroquois" is a French name. The peoples who actually lived there called themselves Haudenosaunee. There's actually a really cool historical map showing how then modern New York would have been subdivided:
On top of that, the stark borders on the map are also a Western invention. Not only should there be more tribes represented, but there should be more blurring and fuzziness between them. Here's an example:
Pre-Columbian America was very different from pre-Columbian Europe. It wasn't more "primitive", nor was it more "advanced", it was different.
Drin gwiinzii, y'all
Fuck that first map. Have this one instead.
