It was a good movie overall. I must admit that the only reason I watched it was Finn Bennet but still, I really loved the way it was filmed, a big portion of it we see though a camera and I love that style (Random, the movie The Visit is also filmed this way and it makes it a lot more interesting)

Even though I did like the cinematography and the colors used, I think the plot was confusing. We just see a couple of people get lost inside a labyrinth and die. As someone who had no idea what the backrooms were, I only understood the whole concept from internet articles I just read and maybe a bit from the very last scene.

What I found confusing was why would the copy-humans want to hurt the real humans? And not even all of them, we can clearly see that some are indifferent. If anyone has theories pls let me know

I loved that Clark was just a bad person and the movie did nothing to change that or make us feel bad for him. It was just the way it is.

Plus, I saw some theories here and these are the two that stood out to me from the scenes we see Mary talk to Phil

☆ Mary did escape and return to the real world, but because she entered the Complex, this copy of her is left inside of it forever, a literal manifestation of the movie’s metaphors about getting trapped inside childhood trauma.

☆ The woman we see talking to Phil in the final scene is not the real Mary; it is her Backrooms copy. Their conversation is not real either; it is a figment of the imagination inside this copy’s broken mind, who does not realize she is a copy who’s stuck in the Backrooms.

I feel like I'm missing something that I should get, but really, I'm mostly confused. The movie barely explains anything and there isn't really any plot if you think about it... I'd love to be proven wrong though.

For example Clark has the copy that does the most damage in the film. I believe that stems from his own psychological problems and the need to "get back" to the people who wronged him.

That also explains why in the end the pirate copy decided to attack Clark the moment Mary helped him accept that he is, in fact, a bad person. So by extension, the pirate copy also accepted that Clark was bad, and therefore attacked him.

As Im writing this out Im realising this doesn't make much sense....

Both scum villain and witch hat have such interesting world building that if you combine them together there are. So many possibilities. This is also just an excuse for me to mash two of my biggest interests rn into one lol
