First it should be known that Anton LaVey was a liar- and a proud one at that! He claimed to have his name legally changed to Anton Szandor LaVey, which was not true and his legal name remained Howard Stanton Levey until the day he died. Some ofthe most iconic parts of his backstory were just plain lies. Its pretty well known that LaVey joined the Clyde Beatty Circus as a lion tamer in 1947. That was a lie, and the Beatty circus records show no record of a “Lavey” or “Levey” employed during any time. He also claimed to have been exposed to human brutality when he worked as a crime scene photographer in San Francisco. However, the SFPD show no records of him ever being employed.

Beyond the lies hides a lot worst, including the abuse of his wife, children, pets, and worshippers. LaVey portrayed himself as a family man when in reality he brutally beat his wife Diane throughout their marriage. A 1984 police report details LaVey strangling Diane almost to the point of unconsciousness, and was only stopped by his daughter Karla pushing him off of Diane and dragging her outside of the house. LaVey was also known for keeping a pet lion, Togare. He portrayed himself as an animal lover, but was also frequently seen using a cattle prod to control Togare into submission. He was eventually ordered to surrender Togare to a sanctuary, where he lived the rest of his life under special care due to the trauma he faced under LaVey. He also kept a Doberman Pinscher, which lived its life outside. If the dog ever tried to enter the house for shelter, LaVey would once again make use of the cattle prod. There is an instance described by Zeena of LaVey beating the dog with a plank of wood because it would not obey him. Eventually the dog developed such bad arthritis that it could not walk up the back stairs to his food bowl and began to wither away of malnutrition.

While there is no proof of it, there are horrible rumors of Zeena’s pregnancy…. Zeena got pregnant at age 13 and to this day nobody knows who the father is. It’s no secret that LaVey was infuriated when Zeena gave birth at age 14 (it would have been legendary to have his grandson born of a 13 year old). There are rumors of LaVey being the father of the child, or at least forcing someone else onto Zeena to impregnate her.

Last but not least, LaVey didnt even believe the shit he was feeding other people! In 1966 LaVey hosted seminar type of get-togethers in his living room in which he would charge people $2 to listen to him talk about witches and black magic called “Witches Worshops”. A publicist suggested that LaVey would make more profit by opening some sort of church. In an article written by the same publicist about the workshops, LaVey was referred to as the “priest of the Devil’s Church.” Lo and Behold, the same year LaVey forms the Church of Satan! He also didnt write the Satanic bible, but plagiarized bits and pieces from “Might is Right” by Ragnar Redbeard, and several other works.

And to end this little rant, here is a quote from LaVey himself:

“I’m one helluva liar. Most of my adult life, I’ve been accused of being a charlatan, a phony, an impostor. I guess that makes me about as close to what the Devil’s supposed to be, as anyone. It’s true. I lie constantly, incessantly. Because I lie so often, I’d really be full of shit if I didn’t keep my mouth shut and my bowels open.”

So in conclusion, believe what you will but LaVey’s own family is estranged from him, especially his daughter Zeena, who has completely rejected him from her life and will no longer even speak of him. Anton Szandor LaVey really is the scum of the earth and even the Church of Satan recognizes that.

Lemegeton - Another grimoire attributed to Solomon is the Lemegeton, or Lesser Key of Solomon. The origin and meaning of Lemegeton are not known. The book also was known as Liber Spirituum and Liber Officiorum. Claims were made that the Lemegeton was originally written in Chaldean and Hebrew, but these are doubtful. The earliest perfect examples of it are in French. The material probably is derived in part from the Testament of Solomon and also the apochryphal book of Enoch. Part of the Lemegeton was published in Latin by the demonologist Johann Weyer in 1563, entitled Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (Pseudo-monarchy of demons). Reginald Scot translated part of it into his Discoverie of Witchcraft (1584).

The book is divided into four parts: Goetia, Theurgia, the Pauline Art, and the Almadel. The Almadel was mentioned in writing around 1500. Goetia is devoted to evil spirits. Theurgia (or Theurgia-Goetia, as it is also called) is devoted to both good and evil spirits and all aerial spirits. The Pauline Art concerns the spirits who govern the planets, the signs of the zodiac, and the hours of the day and night. The Almadel concerns 20 chief spirits who govern the four quarters and the 360 degrees of the zodiac. Goetia is the part published by Weyer. Waite speculated that Goetia is the original Lemegeton and the other three parts were unknown to Weyer and were added at a later time.

The Lemegeton lists 72 Fallen Angels, their titles, seals, duties, and powers, and the angels who can thwart them. The number 72 may have been inspired by the Schemhamphorae, 72 angels who bear the Names of God, which are given in Hebrew Scripture and are expressed at the end of every verse. The verses are used in invocation and in magic. The Schemhamphorae function as names of power. The 72 demons in the Lemegeton possess teaching skills for the sciences and art, as well as the ability to cause terrible diseases and disasters. Few have any healing ability.
