first off, my intention is not to stoke more flames, it’s purely to get a read on the situation. let’s make two things clear:

1: abby is canonically NOT a lesbian. she is canonically straight.

2: believing otherwise doesn’t invalidate your own sexuality or make you homophobic or lesbophobic, as i’ve seen happening lately.

there’s a lot of discourse, mainly on twitter, about abby’s sexuality. i argue there are bigger issues, but whatever. there is nothing wrong with headcanons, and i personally just like to follow the canon. but things change when you a), attack or invalidate people who believe otherwise, or b) deny the canon so much you just start to read either stupid or biphobic. abby is straight, as seen in the game, and she loves owen very much, no matter how much people like or dislike him. your dislike of a character does not give you an excuse to harass others or bend canon.

headcanons are an idea of what could be canon, and should not conflict with what is canon. to insist abby is a lesbian leads to two outcomes for me, which is the path of biphobia or some very weird views. what is the reason you believe abby is a lesbian? is it really on her attitude, which she has shown she’s attracted to men? or is it because she’s a “masculine”, muscular woman? to me, that reads like misogyny.

(this DEFINITELY reads “not attracted to men” to me!)

also, why can’t she just be bi? if she’s shown to be attracted to men, but you still like the idea of her with a woman, why can’t she just be bisexual? as a bisexual myself, i definitely still like women and i definitely consider myself queer. this reads like a lot of invalidation to me, and i do take biphobia seriously. according to biphobic beliefs, bi men should just be gay and bi women with boyfriends are simply straight. it’s demeaning and it’s unfair to the actual people behind those labels, who use them for a reason. what would be so bad about her liking both? i’m not even trying to start a fight, im just genuinely curious!!
