rlly fascinating phenomenon to me is when a character is extremely popular, and that popularity seems understandable enough because they've got something interesting going on, and then you look at the fandom and realize 99% of their fans don't actually care about engaging with any of the things that make them interesting and instead seem to be fans of an imaginary milquetoast version that exists solely for ship and/or angst content and is so far removed from the canon character they might as well be an unrelated OC at this point

#inanimate insanity #ii #YOU’RE RIGHT AND YOU SHOULD SAY IT LOUDER #paintbrush does love lightbulb yes but they don’t quite UNDERSTAND her #i think that throughout the course of season 3 they were feeling a LOT of guilt over how they used to treat her prior to the end of ARS #and the fact that they were separated from her for so long didn’t help because they couldn’t really Talk to her about it #(although even if she was there they probably wouldn’t have been able to talk to her about it anyway because she’s typically very avoidant #when it comes to serious conversations like that if it risks her having to be vulnerable But i digress)#so because they couldn’t really express it that guilt just kinda. festered.#and i think they built up this perfect idealized version of her in their head as a result. to overcompensate for their guilt #putting her on a pedestal #i think that’s also part of the reason why they lashed out at cabby so hard during home is where the heart is #because cabby’s comments on lightbulb were a direct reflection of how Paintbrush used to view her #and it basically slapped them in the face when they were least expecting it so they got defensive #which i LOVE However. there still has not been a resolution to any of this #they Still do not understand lightbulb and put her on a pedestal and i think the events of the movie did Not help in that regard #because now they only have even More of an incentive to idealize her as this perfect being after almost losing her for good 😭#i REALLY want season 4 to address this as well #and i DON’T want it to solely be painted (ha) as ‘aww paintbrush is just scared to lose her again 🥺#they need to protect their fragile innocent perfect girlfriend…how romantic awww 🥺’#because if they actually Are putting lightbulb on a pedestal like i think they may be—that isn’t fair to her at all #she needs to be seen as a Person. not an angel not a nuisance #i’d love if paintbrush started becoming toxically overprotective of lightbulb causing her to only want to pull away from them more #and creating conflict #LET ME SEE THEM FIGHT LET LIGHTBULB GET ANNOYED WITH PAINTBRUSH BECAUSE THEY’RE SMOTHERING HER!!!!!#And then ofc let them make up again in the end and this time they can Truly understand each other now #but i don’t want them to just be perfect forever ykwim?#i haven’t really enjoyed watching lightbrush interact on screen since before truth or flare #because they simply just aren’t Interesting to watch anymore (in my opinion)#and i think if season 4 did something like this it would rekindle what made me fall in love with their dynamic in the first place
