okay so to be honest I was supremely uninvested in corrupted host fan because it seemed really fucking stupid to me but I'm not here to hate on it right now SO. anyway. I realized that usually, when someone has something traumatic happen to them, say, a near death experience of a loved one, it can cause their behaviors to drastically shift. Paranoia, a need to control the situation so something like that won't happen again, being erratic, aggressive, defensive. All of these are trauma responses that could happen to fan, and, if left unchecked, could fester into something even more unhealthy. However I think there'll be a stop cap to this because of one very specific thing.
fan isnt mephone. He doesn't hold the contestant's life in their hands. He doesn't have the power to trap them all in his show, and he has people behind him, with him, who are ready not only to call him out but also to support him through this hard time and bring him back down to earth. He has a habit of being overly protective, almost stifling, but I think both his support system and his experience with the game, teaching him that sometimes he has to let things go, to watch them grow and change, and learn to live what they become, will make this a happier ending then what we expect.

this is NOT about not being productive, i cannot believe how many people in the notes are telling me that pursuing hobbies isn't a waste of time i KNOW that. what i mean by "complete and utter inaction" is doing nothing. not only am i not being productive or pursuing any goals, i'm also not doing any of the myriad things i know would bring me joy. i'm not doing hobbies, i'm not hanging out with friends, i'm just sitting around rotting away for no discernible reason

Test Tube & Paintbrush have both mellowed out a LOT after s3 but one mellowed out in a good way while the other mellowed out in a "I need to stay cool calm and collected AND supportive because my partner is impulsive and has a tendency to be over passionate but I've pushed back on his wants before and I hate the way I made him feel and I never want to make him feel that way again so instead of sharing my thoughts on the matter I'm going to passively enable his behavior out of fear of being 'cold' towards him again" way

All I'm saying is, if OJ starts acting like his usual self again now that Paper is gone, and things are a thousand times more stressful, I'll reverse all of my complaining.
Like there's a good portion of characters that felt forced to leave, and OJ is self-centered enough to take that siding as proof he's right Fan is wrong. I'm just saying. I think it would be a very good point of conflict. There seems to be a very strong theme of disconnection this season.

I still don't think Mephone should be a character in S4 btw. I'll accept a side-plot, but more ideally he wld have his own side series with 3gs (Maybe when the remaster ends?).
I would find it immensely dissapointing if they go back on his decision to leave the contestants alone. His involvement with the contestants were never good, and never will be good, leaving them was his only act of selflessness.
