The Malaysia Open 2019 is the ninth tournament of the 2019 BWF World Tour .This tournament is organized by the Badminton Association of Malaysia with sanction from the BWF. The Malaysia Open 2019, officially the CELCOM AXIATA Malaysia Open 2019, is a badminton tournament which will take place at Axiata Arena in Malaysia from 2 to 7 April 2019 and has a total purse of $700,000.

Prize money

The total prize money for this tournament is US$700,000. Distribution of prize money is in accordance with BWF regulations.

Birmingham:  Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal crashed out of the All England Championship 2019 to bring an end to the Indian challenge at one of the most prestigious badminton tournament.

While Saina struggled to find answers to the deceptive strokeplay of World no 1, Tai Tzu-Ying, suffering a 15-21 19-21 loss to the  Taiwanese in the quarterfinals, former No 1 Srikanth was no match for the current men’s world no 1 Kento Momota and went down 12-21 16-21 to the Japanese badminton legend in the day.

All England Badminton Championship 2019 starting from March 6 will be held in Birmingham. Although Draws does not seem to be in favor of India Squad but India shuttlers will try to end the 18-year drought by winning a medal in this prestigious tournament.

In the women’s singles, 5th seed PV Sindhu will play her first game against South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun. Sindhu will be heading to Birmingham after playing the Senior National Championships, starting Tuesday, February 12. Head-to-Head Sindhu is leading against South Korean. Sindhu had lost in two games when she met Sung Ji Hyun at the Hong Kong Open last year.

  Saina Nehwal may face Tai Tzu Ying in quarter-finals

On the other hand, Saina Nehwal, seeded 8th in the tournament, will play her first game against Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour. The London Olympics bronze medallist has made a strong start to the ongoing season, reaching the semi-final in Malaysia and winning the title in Indonesia. A big hurdle for Saina would be Tai Tzu Ying which is in Saina’s group.

Meanwhile, the men’s singles players from India are going to find it tough in Birmingham as they have been set to face some tricky tests in the initial rounds.

  Kidambi Srikanth may face K Momota test in Birmingham

7th Kidambi Srikanth will play against France’s Brice Leverdez in the opening round. He is likely to take on Indonesia’s in-form youngster, Jonatan Christie as early as the second round. If Srikanth passes this hurdle, he is most likely to face top seed and current world number one Kento Momota in the last-eight round.

Unfortunately, India’s national champion HS Prannoy and former Singapore Open champion Sai Praneeth will be meeting in the first round. The winner of the all-Indian tie will next face the winner of the first-round clash between Ng Ka Long and eighth seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

Another leading Indian badminton shuttler Sameer Verma faces a tough test in his campaign opener against 6th seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.

Two big names which will be missed in the All England Badminton Championships are Olympic champion Carolina Marin and Malaysia Badminton legend Lee Chong Wei. While the Spanish women’s singles shuttler is recovering from an ACL injury, Chong Wei is getting back to full fitness after undergoing treatment for nose cancer.

Veteran women’s doubles pair, Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy face a tough opening match against 7th seeds Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto of Japan. Meanwhile, Jakkampudi Meghana and Poorvisha S Ram take on Ekaterina Bolotova and Alina Davletova of Russia in the first round.

In mixed doubles, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy face Hong Kong’s Chang Tak Ching and Ng Wing Yung in the first round.

This visit of Lee Chong Wei in the orphanage not only brought the joy but also brought a whole new meaning of Chinese New Year for the children living there. This act of kindness by Lee Chong Wei and his family is really heart touching. We hope to see him on badminton court soon.

The badminton tournament  Barcelona Spain Masters 2019, will take place at the Pavelló de la Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona, Spain from 19 to 24 February 2019 and has a total prize of $150,000.The Barcelona Spain Masters 2019 is the fourth tournament of the 2019 BWF World Tour and also part of the Spain Masters championships. This tournament was organized by the Spanish Badminton Federation and was sanctioned by the BWF.

Malaysian badminton star Lee Chong Wei returned to his training Friday, officials said, months after the sports Legend had to stop playing to battle cancer The former long-time world number one was seen to be in “high spirits” with plans to get back to court next week, Badminton Association of Malaysia secretary-general Ng Chin Chai told AFP. “He hit the gym doing some cycling with the gym instructor,” he said. “He planing to start the on-court training next week.” Lee stopped playing in the middle of last year after he discovered he had cancer , forcing him to pull out of National games and BWF tournaments.

Diagnosed with early-stage nose cancer, he told The Star newspaper in December that he had to go through 33 sessions of proton therapy treatment in Taiwan, calling it “a nightmare”.

Despite all this , the three-time Olympic silver medallist said he wasn’t giving up on his dream of playing at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games — it will be his fifth entry if he were to qualify.

The 36 year old badminton legend has tried unsuccessfully to gain Malaysia’s first ever Olympic gold medal at three consecutive Summer Games.

His last shot at the Olympic title was at the Rio 2016 Games when Lee lost to China’s Chen Long in a gripping final.

Nose cancer is perhaps the biggest blow suffered by Lee!

Indian badminton stars Kidambi Srikanth and Ashwini Ponnappa are not only pro badminton players but amazing actors too.They recently  tricked a bunch of kids at a Garuda Badminton Academy in Secunderabad, disguised as old people.

As a part of act both of them pleaded for a few minutes of playtime with the kids training there.Granted five minutes of playing time, rather half-heartedly, the two seemed to annoy the kids by showing some poor badminton skills, pretending they have back-ache, before unleashing their true self to a loud cheer from everyone watching at the academy. The kids later ran towards Kidambi Srikanth and Ashwini Ponnappa as they removed their mask to reveal who they were, asking for autographs.

Srikanth and Ponnappa both are playing in PBL 2019 season. Ashwini Ponappa is playing for Hyderabad Warriors in the Pro Badminton League season four while Kidambi Srikanth represents Bengaluru Raptors.

Choosing the right Table Tennis blade is one of the most important equipment decisions you will ever make.  Thankfully, the Paddle Palace catalog lists the exact descriptions of each blade they sell.  In this article, I’m going to talk about the details of various shakehands blades.   Handle Shape There are various types of shakehands handles – straight, flared, conic, anatomic, ergonomic, and left-right.  The handle shape is the one aspect of a blade that is a personal preference.  Keep in mind that straight and flared are the most common.  Also, if you are a chopper or blocker who twiddles often with a combination racket of pips or anti on one side, then it is best to use a straight handle as it is easier to twiddle your Table Tennis racket.   Ply Some Table Tennis blades are all wood and listed as 5W, 7W, 9W etc…  This means 5-ply wood, 7-ply wood, 9-ply wood.  Other blades are made of wood plus carbon, glass fibre, texalium, titanium, aluminum, Kevlar, synthetic, arylate, aramid, or zylon.  Wood blades tend to be more flexible with better touch on the control shots like pushing, flipping, and blocking.  Composite blades tend to be faster with a larger sweet spot giving the most power on the loops and smashes.  If you are a beginner, I would recommend using a 5-ply wood blade.  As you progress to an intermediate-advanced level, I would recommend that you try out a composite blade.   Thickness The Table Tennis blade thickness does have an impact on the “feel” of the blade; they usually range from about 5-9mm thick.  Thinner blades around 5-6mm sometimes have a bit more vibration and thicker blades 7-9mm have less vibration.   Blade Measurements This is one of the most overlooked aspects of a blade, but it is critically important.  If you are a chopper or lobber playing further from the table, choose a larger blade so that you will have a larger surface area for making contact against loops and powerful smashes.  If you are a quick offensive player, choose a smaller to mid-size blade for quick-close-to-the-table action.  Also, consider how the head size adds significantly to the weight of the racket.  If you choose a blade that is 16.6cm long and 15.6cm wide and weighs 85 grams, it will be heavier than a blade that is 15.6cm long and 15.0cm wide and weighs 85 grams.  What?  I thought they both weighed 85 grams.  Yes, they do, the blades both weight 85 grams, but you aren’t just playing with the blade, you are playing with the rubber AND blade together.  With a larger head, you have more rubber as well adding to the total weight of the racket.    Weight For the weight of the Table Tennis racket, your selection should depend on your body type and your playing style.  Stronger adults can use rackets that are 85-100grams.  Physically weaker adults and very young children should use rackets that are 60-85 grams.  Also, keep in mind that lighter rackets typically give more racket speed and heavier rackets typically give more force at impact.  Lighter rackets are often better for close-to-the-table action and heavier rackets are better from mid to long-distance action.  Another consideration is where the weight is distributed.  Some rackets are more top-heavy and other rackets have more weight in the handle.  The racket itself is one of the main aspects of the weight but also the thickness of the sponge – heavy rubber with thick sponge makes it more top-heavy and lighter rubber with thin sponge makes to more balanced or even handle-heavy.   Class/Speed/Control This is probably the most obvious description.  If you are an offensive Table Tennis player, then use an off+, off, or off- blade;  all-around players use all+, all, or all-,  defensive players use def+, def, or def-.  Usually, faster blades give more speed.  Usually, slower blades give more control and less speed.  As you are developing your own game, think about the most important aspect.  Do you win most of your points with power shots like fast flips, loops, and smashes?  Or, do you win most of your points with placement, precision, variation, and consistency?  As you learn more and more about your own game and the ways you win points, you will have a better understanding of what blade is best for you.   Price Wood blades usually range from around $40-$150.  Composite blades (like carbon), usually range from around $100-$300.  One thing to consider is the life of a blade.  As long as your store it properly in the case and your don’t destroy it on the table, your blade should last 10-20 years.  This is a one time purchase, so make sure that you choose the right blade for you instead of just trying to find the “cheapest” blade.   Combo Paddle Palace now offers combo specials including Table Tennis blade and rubber together on some of their blades.  Make sure to have the experts at Paddle Palace assemble your racket – the assembly is free and they do a great job!
