Wonder if this changed since the new chapters
i βjust now saw this since im not really on tumblr anymore but no yeah definitely has changed some but surprisingly not that much. im reblogging this reply from my notes and i dont even remember what the og post said but it was always based on personal preference anyway... i guess i could get into it?
ok so looking over this heres my immediate thoughts, with the disclaimer that these are my personal choices, and that in this case theyre about deltarunes story and may or may not work as well in, say, the previously mentioned sburb au with a totally different plotline:
bard seems like a valid angle for kris from a purely narrative standpoint post-chapter 2. they quite literally were a wildcard who we knew very little about and who couldnt be predicted very well. knowing what we know now, however, i would probably make them a maid or an heir. mainly it's their lack of agency that stands out.
the aspect still checks out to me though. structure, limits, inevitability, calamity and fate and sacrifice, judgement and rules, etc. etc., it makes a lot of sense.
susie still feels like a knight and rage with a focus on emotion and impulse holds up. idr if i got into it on this blog but i dont vibe with "hope = fantasy so rage = truth and realness", to me rage is more about base nature and instinct as well as biases both learned and innate, and the hope/rage dichotomy lies more in like... conscious vs. subconscious desire (if you really need there to be a dichotomy). HOWEVER i wanna say theres probably a case to be made for life player susie and while i dont have the mental energy to make it right now, im throwing it out there. something something power and agency and something something life finds a way, something someting ultimate healing.
noelle being a maid of hope does work pretty well but for the sake of having more variety, i think sylph might do. again, i deviate from some common theories with my class descriptions, and i dont think of sylphs as "healers" necessarily, though thats definitely an application their powers could have under the right circumstances. i do think they tend to be "fixers" in terms of their approaches to things, but that doesnt need to relate to their powerset directly.
berdly... berdlys a page of light im sorry to my gf if shes reading this. love berdly. hes def a page. get that boy some pants. or dont idk maybe he wouldnt care
i hope this random answer to your many weeks old reply to my two year old post makes for some interesting reading! if not feel free to disregard. thanks for coming to my ted talk

Thanks. What's the difference between a mage of void, a sylph of void, a muse of void, and a knight of void in terms of personality?
honestly, it's hard to say? i think all four of those titles could have all kinds of different personalities. it really depends on whether you believe classpect and personality are related, and if so, what you think that relation is.
i think in my case i would turn more to archetypes in order to narrow things down. for example, one might say that a knight plays the role of a fighter or warrior, or alternately a protector or guardian. we also see their "masks" often pointed out - i typically interpret this as an aspect-related insecurity for the purposes of storytelling. so that tells us that it would be thematically appropriate for a knight of void to insecurities that have something to do with void, but that's still very broad; that could mean anything from being insecure about loneliness to not wanting anyone to know anything about them. it just depends on who they are as people, because any type of person could play the role of a knight of void under the right circumstances.
all in all, i think any player can have any personality. i'm sorry if that isn't helpful... is there something specific you could use assistance with? are you trying to narrow down a classpect for a character, or for a real person?
for characters, i usually look at their character arc, at the role they play in their story, or at the ways they need to grow as people. for example, i have a character who is a mage of void, and i assigned him this title because him having knowledge of things that are unknown to everyone else is central to his story and to his struggles. it isn't super relevant to his personality (though he does have some traits that are in line with what we see from our canon void players, just because they felt appropriate and helped me give more detail to him as a character).
for a real person, i think you can do something similar by assessing your strengths and weaknesses, and looking back on how those have impacted your life - but i also think that when it comes to a classpect for yourself or a friend, the most important thing is to pick something that holds meaning for you personally, and to remember that since real people don't have arcs or play sburb, those sorts of assignments can change along with the person.
a note on master classes: in stories, i typically reserve those for players whose session or role is unusual in some way, outside of the scope of normal sburb shenanigans. to me, they don't really say anything about who you are, just what your circumastances are. but if someone wants to identify themselves as a master class, that's up to them! they should go with whatever they relate to the most, or even just what they think would be cool.
my sburb sona is an heir of void because they're me but cooler. if i had to assign my real life self a classpect at this point in my life i'd probably stick with page of void, which i always seem to come back to :p heir is not inherently cooler than page but an idealized version of myself would definitely be an heir hehe. it's the jegbert kinnie in me tbh

it's your old pal spork back from the void!! this blog is still dead probably. i just wanted to ramble lol
sooo i think about classpect a lot still because Special Interest and here's a summary of my general thoughts on it.
things a classpect can be:
a role you are Destined to play in the game
a role you are Destined to play In General
a role you are Forced to play
a role that is simultaneously determined For you and By you, due to the nature of paradox space, branching timelines, and the restrictions of a linear perception of time
a completely arbitrary title based on ultimately random factors
a Description of a narrative arc
an Assignment of a narrative arc
a description of your cool powers
the result of a literal/metaphorical/metaphysical personality quiz
a title a real life person gives themselves for funsies ;)
all of the above
none of the above
i feel like a lot of people either 1) generally agree with the popular fandom consensus and don't look beyond that or 2) overcompensate by trying to have The True And Correct Take. however, there is a crucial thing being overlooked with both of those viewpoints which is that you can do whatever you want! forever!! :3
i (mainly) use classpect-as-narrative-arc. this is neither Correct nor Incorrect! the same is true of literally any other theory, by nature of it being a Theory. that is ok! i think everyone should generally do what they find most fun/most interesting/most helpful for their story/creation.
i do also think that it's worth keeping an open mind and taking the time to consider different viewponts, but that doesn't mean your own has to change. it just means you should look out for new ideas so that you don't miss any that you think are cool! sometimes there's ideas that you could totally have fun with and incorporate into your system if you just considered it for a second, and realized that it is kind of an awesome concept.
but the most important thing will always be HAVING FUN, like in a general sense ^-^ for example, i use classpect-as-arc in most of my homestuck-adjacent stories, but i have some other ones where i go for classpect-as-forced-role instead because of the themes i want to explore there. and there are a couple of settings i've created where classpects are nothing but powersets, and are irrelevant to the plot outside of that. i think this kind of mixing and matching is a good approach that keeps you from getting locked into one way of thinking! plus it means you get to play around a lot more.
if your goal is only to analyze the canon text, you might not be so interested in the less canon-compliant takes. that's ok too! but until we get actual confirmation on Any of these theories (which might never happen -n-) it's going to be really up in the air, which i'm... honestly kind of glad for at this point? part of me isn't entirely convinced that hussie even had a single definitive answer in mind, which wouldn't be that surprising really, though one may have been decided on after the fact. or maybe there's some Super Secret Truth that existed all along and just hasn't been revealed to us!
either way, use the concept of classpects however you want, because no one can stop you!!!! >:3 you are the artist, it is you! write and draw what inspires you! and support other people who do the same!! maybe even COLLABORATE so you can make BIGGER COOLER THINGS >:D
thank you thank yooou THANK YOU to anyone who's ever taken the time to come up with their own view of classpect instead of taking the most popular repeated theories as fact i would have never gotten anywhere with this stuff without those people. it's really easy to just be like "sylphs are healer fairies paired with maids" "witches and heirs are counterparts" etc. but it takes independent thought to say "actually classes and aspects aren't paired at all" or "classpects work best as meta bullshit corresponding to a character's narrative arc even if that wan't the original intention"
like, i don't always AGREE with every unique take i see. for example i think certain class "pairs" have very strong parallels and could be seen as thematic counterparts, but i don't think it works out to an even two classes each type thing, or that a class can only be tied to a single counterpart. but i don't HAVE to agree with every idea. it's a good thing that i don't since my personal goal isn't to be The One Who's Right About Homestuck, it's to have a good time using the classpect system.
if you actually think it over for yourself and decide you personally DO still think that sylphs are healers or that witch and heir are a pair, that is a million times better than saying they are just because you heard someone else say it.
make classpects your own!! if something about the most common takes doesn't feel quite right, or you think you have an idea that would be more fun or useful to you, then don't just accept what other people say! do whatever you want forever!!!
(also i'm tagging this post but there's a whole mess of nonsense on this blog, especially the older stuff. if you decide to backread do keep in mind that almost none of it reflects my current thoughts on classpect -u-)
lost someone very important to me today. might be the end of this blog and maybe even the special interest. thank you to everyone who sent asks or showed interest, and sorry for all the asks that went unanswered. i get notes here almost every day and it's been nice. i enjoyed this a lot.
hey! i'm just checking to see if you still do session analysis requests? just to make sure
hi there! i do session analysis in theory, but in practice the only ask i've gotten for it is still sitting in my inbox >_< it turns out it's kind of hard to predict how a session goes with only the classpects to go by. and on top of that, i think a sburb session should probably go however you want it to go?
but if there's something specific about a session you need help with, feel free to tell me about its players in more detail and let me know what kind of ideas you're after! i'm always down to help brainstorm plot stuff >:3

If it's okay can I ask if a bat is a good lusus for a cerulean blood sylph of void?
i don't really do lusus stuff because i don't think that a troll's lusus really needs to be related to their classpect? you're free to make it related if you want of course, but for me personally, i tie it to the troll's overall theme. so is the sylph of void bat themed, or maybe vampire themed, or anything else that would justify a bat lusus?
that's how i do it, based on canon - the 12 trolls are themed after the zodiac, so they have related lusii. karkat's crab monster lusus has nothing to do with him being a knight of blood, it's because he's the Cancer Sign Troll and cancer's animal is the crab
i also recommed making a lusus more of a mythical or exotic thing, not just a normal earth animal but colored white. there's nothing wrong with using a regular animal, but it's an alien planet! it has all sorts of weird creatures! that's why karkat doesn't have a Crab, he has a Crab Looking Thing. sollux has a cyclops monster, kanaya has the mother grub, tavros's bull lusus is also a fairy. even if it's just mashing two animals together - one of my old fantrolls actually had a lusus that was a combo of a bat and a fox - it can help your character's lusus feel like it belongs on alternia.
on the other hand, though, i cannot stress enough how much you should do whatever you want! if you think a bat lusus would be cool, that's a perfectly good reason to do it. some people will try to tell you all these Fantroll Creation Rules like they think they can stop you, but i think it's all very silly. you can give your troll a regular animal lusus, you can make them have weird nonexistent blood colors, you could even make them a total mary sue if you wanted, it doesn't matter as long as you're enjoying yourself!
could you do a general analysis of a prince of void, since we are discussing void? its one of the aspects im most interested in, but i dont see a lot of people discuss it.
sure! void is a very cool aspect and i am totally not biased at all >:3
as we know, princes are destroyer classes. similar to knights, they weaponize their aspect very effectively, but where knights wield their aspect in order to fulfill their duty, princes are more suited to attacking, dealing damage, and generally destroying, with all of these things being both literal and metaphorical.
i feel like they tend to be loners, but at the same time they desire connection and belonging - or if that's not your jam, they could have some other conflicting sort of nature relating to their aspect. either way, they're very contradictory, and will usually be self-sabotaging as a result. this internal conflict will ultimately be their downfall if they can't overcome it, their aspect very ironically destroying them in return.
for a prince of void, i think "lone wolf who craves connection" is actually really well-suited to the title. void players in particular often heavily repress things - roxy with her feelings (romantic and otherwise), equius with his overall weirdness, horuss with his negativity as per meulin's suggestion. however, this repression is never fully effective, and these things slip through and cause various neuroses; unconscious attempts at coping, atypical behavior and unintentional revealing of the very thing they're trying to hide. in other words, they try so hard not to think about or address certain things that they actually bring those things into focus.
it's like a black hole, kind of. you can't actually see it, but you can see the effect it has on the things around it. a void player repressing something probably talks around it in conversation, thus bringing attention to it via the obviousness of its absence. it's a very interesting intersection of light and void, where they can both have the same qualities and effects, but go about it in different ways.
void players will sometimes cling to the familiar - tradition, nostalgia, social norms, things that are tried and tested - in an attempt to find belonging, security, or any manner of thing they long for. in a world of uncertainty, these things can bring comfort. unfortunately, they can also do harm - see equius' hemoloyalty for a... D-> STRONG example.
with a prince of void, i'd expect void's themes of isolation to play a big part. to me, this could be a person who feels deeply alone or insignificant, and tries to compensate for this by being aggressively sociable, though they might not quite understand how to do that in ways that are acceptable. we see this kind of behavior in roxy, who is similarly lonely and desperate for interaction and affection.
a prince's problems, though, might not be so direct - it may be that the prince of void doesn't even realize just how isolated they really are, or maybe they just don't see how much of an effect it's having on them. this seems like a prince trait to me: their aspect has a ton of influence on their life, but that just means they're so used to it that they might not think their situation is that atypical until it's pointed out or they're otherwise forced to come to terms with it. that can probably apply to a lot of the homestuck characters, but with princes being destroyers, i think it's fitting for them to have to first figure out what it even is that they need to destroy.
regardless, i can see them being clingy and overly people-pleasing. this could be attempting to destroy Void As In Lack/Absence, or destroying themselves With void - self-minimizing and denying their own desires so that people will like them, kind of like horuss. the thing with horuss is he believed himself to be "everything and nothing" (a blank Page, so to speak), and so he let everyone else decide who he would be.
a prince of void could be similar, but less in a "letting people tell them who to be" way and more in a "trying to be everything for everyone" way. they might switch up their behavior and persona depending on what the person they're talking to responds the most positively to, entirely ignoring their own wants and suppressing their inherent traits. of course, if this sounds too much like a prince of heart to you, there are other ways it could go! (though i think this would be a very good direction to take for prince of void who was raised by or otherwise greatly influenced by a heart player.)
a prince of void could destroy void-as-mystery, making them the kind of person who aggresively uncovers the truth. they may refuse to tolerate lies, or even try to force people to be upfront and honest even if they're not comfortable doing so. or they might just bring clarity to situations, making any uncertain elements or variables into definite ones - think of a super observant detective with incredible deductive abilities, filling in the gaps in their knowledge by determining what most likely happened at a crime scene. i could see this prince playing that sort of role, and combining it with the truth-seeking idea, maybe they're really good at interrogation, using a combination of social deduction and intimidation to get someone to confess.
in that case, their struggle could be similar to something i mentioned in the seer post. the prince might be this cool, skilled and intimidating detective, but they might be an overthinker, even kind of paranoid. they think everyone is lying or hiding something, when in reality, the thing they're missing is that there's really, genuinely Nothing there. they're so caught up in Mystery and Secrets and Hidden Things that they don't even notice the complete Lack of an actual problem, the Absence of guilt. perhaps their whole investigation was false from the start, either as an intentional distraction orchestrated by some enemy or just turning out to be a paranoia-fueled overreaction that the prince was totally convinced was legit.
on the other hand, a prince focused on nonexistence/potential might be the type who builds or creates things to try and fill a void in their soul, or something like that. or maybe they feel their existence has no meaning, so they desperately reach for any shred of importance or relevance they can find. they might destroy things just to try and make an impact on the world, lashing out because they want to make a difference, they don't want to be forgotten. you can combine those concepts too: a prince of void who's an artist of some sort, but they're underappreciated and feel their work is worthless, so they decide there's more value in destroying things than in creating them. if they can't go down in history for their art, then they'll just have to be immortalized as a villain. vandalism could be a good option for that, especially since things like grafitti, while destructive to property, are still an act of creative self-expression.
honestly, though, there's so many ways to do this i feel like i could go on forever. do tumblr posts have a character limit?? i dunno, but i bet i'll find out one day. :p
i mean, hey, maybe the prince of void is just a full-on brawler who beats the shit out of people empty-handed. or maybe they use deception and secrets to destroy, breaking down group cohesion from the inside by spreading lies and blackmailing people. and they could always be a ninja! ninja is always a valid approach. :3
powerways: roxylike summoning of items via destroying their nonexistence, or complete obliteration of items via destroying through void, effectively vaporizing them by dispersing matter (creating empty space). maybe even deleting things from the timeline entirely, making them retroactively nonexistent, like they were never there in the first place. scientifically inaccurate but really cool looking black hole attacks. they could have the ability to erase things, but only when no one else can see them? like, they have to be the only observer.
and that reminds me of schrodinger's cat... if void is potential, maybe they can even do some really weird quantum physics stuff that i don't super understand and force certain outcomes so long as they haven't been confirmed or decided yet, by destroying the potential alternatives? destroying uncertainty, like making it so a coin will land on heads by destroying the possibility that it will land on tails mid-flip. i'm not a sciencer or anything, and that's kinda out there, but it sounds like a fun idea to explore!
i hope this is interesting! i think i may have focused more on the void part than the prince part... sorry if it's not what you were looking for. princes aren't my strong suit, i always have a lot of ideas for them but i struggle putting them into words for some reason. -u-
adding on to the other anon: lots of appreciation for understanding void beyond "secrets/ mystery"! also for not taking inversion theory as real :)
-a fellow void player
i'm glad you guys like how i do my theory stuff!! :3 no hate towards people who enjoy the idea of inversion, i just find it kind of reductive i guess. not everything needs to be a binary or a dichotomy you know??
i loved that seer of void analysis so much! thank you, iβm glad someone is talking about void in terms other than only secrets and lies, the aspect itself is so much more than that! thank you for answering hehe you donβt have to answer this one i just wanted to thank you <3
ahh this is so sweet!! i'm really glad you liked it! and yeah i agree, it's really a shame that people don't seem to branch out that much with their interpretations. that's half the fun for me, i like to take a title and turn it around in my head and look at it all sorts of ways until i come up with something neat :p
as a void player myself i don't consider lies and secrets all that integral to what the title means for me. those things might be really important to a different page of void, but no two people or characters are the same, which is why i try to cover more than one approach in my posts ^-^ if someone's looking for classpect ideas they ought to have options!
