Introduction to my Classpecting Ideas
This felt like a good idea for something to put out before I put my Knight & Page analysis out there, since I plan on making this a 6 part series. (Potentially 7 if demand for a Lord/Muse addendum is high enough).
So, I'll be laying out my most important philosophies on the subject here for future reference.
Classpecting is...
Point A. Classpecting is malleable.
There is not one rigid, set definition for any Class pair, or any Aspect pairing. The freedom of the author is that they may assign any symbolism to a concept that they may like.
What I mean by this is that people often seem to think that manifestations of an Aspect within Homestuck's narrative paint that object or idea as a concept inherently tied to that Aspect.
Example: Pumpkins & Void. You would not believe the amount of people in the early fandom who swore by the idea that pumpkins were inherently just Void constructs because of their role in Homestuck's narrative.
No? Pumpkins symbolise Void in Homestuck itself and Homestuck itself only only due to a running gag inherent to Homestuck itself.
Anything, with enough narrative basis and existing thematic ties, can serve to symbolise an Aspect. Furthermore, two different authors may have different ideas of what Aspect something represents.
Some authors may see alcohol, for example, as a Void-bound concept owing to its obfuscation of fair judgement. Some may see it as a Light-bound concept owing to the idea of 'in vino veritas' and the tendency of drunkenness to induce truthful confessions. Some may see it as a Life-bound concept owing to its associations with hedonism and impulsive behaviour.
With enough narrative consistence, anything is possible. Homestuck's narrative is not as rigid of a point of reference as some people would swear by it being. This is deeply important.
Point B. Classpecting is not the whole of a character.
I can't exactly phrase this in a satisfactory manner, but... a Classpect is not a personality type in of itself. An individual being a Prince of Heart does not instantly make them Dirk Strider. It merely means that their core value is identity & selfhood, and they interact with it by destroying it. It is that simple!
I see, time and time again, Classpecting blogs acting as if a Classpect is indicative of a character's whole personality and giving guides as to the exact behaviours & quirks a character with that Classpect should have.
I am imploring you to explore wider possibilities when it comes to this. Even if it means sharing a title with a canon character! It doesn't mean you have to just rewrite that canon character because that's not how Classpecting works.
I've seen fanventure characters share titles with canon characters. (Sovereignstuck's Annomi Errata & Dynama Zarrow sharing titles with Dirk & Porrim respectively, and Porrim herself is also a player in that narrative, mind you!)
I've seen fanventure characters share titles with eachother. (Vast Error's Dismas Mersiv is a Rogue of Mind. One of my fantrolls is also a Rogue of Mind!)
In every instance, they are fundamentally different people. I cannot put it any simpler than this.
Point C. Classpecting is always applicable.
That is the perfection of the Classpecting system. You can give a title to any character, from anything ever made. It's not even that difficult if you're half-decent at media analysis!
Quite literally all you need to do is ask yourself two questions.
"What's this character's core value?" and "How do they interact with that?" Do that, and you've got yourself a Classpect.
That's the beauty of it! It's obviously not going to be as airtight as a story that has the Classpecting system baked directly into the narrative, but it's still going to work out!
Hell, do it to yourself! Do it to your friends! The world's your oyster. You can do anything you want, forever, for the rest of time. I'm a Seer of Life! My best friend is a Page of Blood! My mother is a Witch of Hope! Go wild.
Post formatting
For my Classpecting posts, I'll aim to give two related definitions for every Class.
Definition A is the narrative function, what the Class says about the person and how they interact with their Aspect as an abstract concept.
Definition B is the practical function, what the Class says about their role in the session and how they interact with their Aspect as a SBURB construct.
Therefore, we get an idea of both the abstract, personal definition of a Classpect, and the functional, game application of a Classpect.
I'll also aim to give about two or three examples for each individual title about how you could write a character with them, since there are always going to be multiple directions you can take with a Classpect.
Conclusion
tl;dr - what I'm trying to say is this. Classpecting is malleable, easily applicable & capable of saying any number of things, and my posts will aim to give two concise definitions of both narrative and practical function for every title.
I'll get the Knight:Page analysis done either today or tomorrow, and the rest of the Class posts will be staggered releases in order of poll results. Thus, the order is going to be:
Knights & Pages, Deficiency and Exploitation.
Mages & Seers, Experience and Comprehension.
Witches & Heirs, Adherence and Manipulation.
Princes & Bards, Instability and Destruction.
Thieves & Rogues, Inundation and Redistribution.
Maids & Sylphs, Maintenance and Generation.
And, potentially...
7. Lords & Muses, Absolution and Dominion.
And then, subsequently, the order for the Aspect posts, which I've decided based on relevance to the canon, roughly speaking anyways...
Space & Time, Genesis and Terminus.
Breath & Blood, Fluidity and Stability.
Light & Void, Potential and Simplicity.
Heart & Mind, Instinct and Dialectics.
Life & Doom, Progress and Stagnation.
Hope & Rage, Conviction and Iconoclasm.
I look forward to the next post. Until then, take care.
Classpecting for those who haven't read Homestuck
After entirely too much ado, I finally finished my first two videos on classpecting. I'll be releasing a written essay format of this theory eventually as well, that'll go into more depth and nitty-gritty while this video serves as a proper and true first introduction to the concept. If you finished watching the first video, you can click here to watch my video on the Classes. Some of the art I used for both videos will be under the cut for ease of use and sourcing.
MagexSylph and PrincexHeir Inversions
I was having thoughts in the official homestuck discord a bit but I figured I should repeat them here for y'all as well
Now that we have canon class pairs and a full active passive scale I've rethought somewhat what a couple inversion pairs are but its nothing too crazy, its essentially just that for all intents and purposes Sylphs and Heirs Swap Places, which only affects two inversion pairs now
Mages and Sylphs invert to eachother and Princes and Heirs Invert to eachother
So, what does that even look like? well, here's my sort of unpolished thoughts:
One thing I don't like about how the fandom characterizes Kurloz is how nonchalant people make him. Like firstly, he's a Prince. If Eridan and Dirk are emotional wrecks then there's no way in hell that Kurloz isn't filled with deep inner turmoil. Secondly, he's a Prince of RAGE! Contrary to popular belief, Princes don't suffer from a lack of their aspect. They suffer from an overabundance of it. Rage is not only characterized by anger but also deep shame. That man probably hates himself MORE than Eridan or Dirk and is definitely more emotionally unstable than those two. And last but not least, let's not forget about the fact that his FIRST immediate thought after accidently hurting someone he loved was SELF-MUTILATION as a form of supposed "repentance" along with literally mind controlling that same person because he was still too emotionally attached to her to let her go. He literally is attempting to bring her into his religion's version of heaven because he loves her too much to have her eradicated like the rest of his friend group. This man is not winning the idgaf contest. In fact, they banned him from even trying to attend it. He's the worlds being giver of fucks. His fucks are abundant and plentiful. If his overwhelming curiosity and penchant for riddles wasn't his main character trait, it would be his overly emotional overabundance of self-hatred. This man is the Homestuck version of Nagito Komaeda and I will DIE on that hill.

Can you explain the difference between Prince of Space and Prince of Time? (Personally wise) I relate to them both, and I can't decide which one I am.
Oh I can understand the issue with this one! Lots of people lean way too hard into thinking of Princes as a complete negation of their aspect- leading to a lot of misidentification as princes of complementary aspects. But it’s really not that complicated! Princes tend to actually have a lot of common with their aspect- maybe even too much. The things that they have in common with their aspect opposing aspect are superficial- in a very literal way. Sure they may look like that aspect, or have the most stereotypical traits of it, but they always have much more identification and internal thoughts resembling their true aspect. They just take those traits to such an overwhelming/unhealthy extent that it looks like the complementary aspect. Like a circle!
Okay maybe that isn’t phrased the best. Let’s get into examples! A Prince of Space screams perfectionism to me. Wanting to create the most perfect, most meaningful, best creation and extension of themselves that they often don’t make anything at all. Or bring others creations down because its not “good enough” or “highbrow”. The things they would make would be kept in stasis- never being allowed to grow to their furthest potential in fear of it growing worse. This is ultimately destructive of course, as they cannot prevent the decay of stasis nor the winds of change no matter how hard they try. From the outside they might look Timebound- being all anxious and busybody about their appearance and presentation of themselves and their creations while tearing down others who don’t meet their standards- always worried and stressing and moving is a very Timebound thing to do. But as you can see they are still very clearly Spacebound.
A Prince of Time on the other hand, might appear calm and creative from the outside, but often has enough inner turmoil and energy to power a major city. They probably have an attention-disorder, and what looks like a calm front is just them disassociating and losing track of time as they think about 7 different things at once. Perhaps their creations aren’t even that original- it only looks that way because they are mixing like 27 seemingly unrelated inspirations they are obsessed with. I can see them be an amazing scrapbooker or webweaver- or making a lot of different philosophical points about life and death through their slam poetry. They would perhaps be a little too obsessed with death and change- becoming nihilistic to the point of stasis maybe? Pretending to be okay with all their extential fears by saying that “nothing matters and we all die eventually so we might as well do nothing because nothing we do even matters anyway”. They would care a lot though, about everything. The very embodiment of a fake idgafer. A more intense Prince of Time might hate their aspect- denying inevitability due to some grief. A person stuck in the past, lamenting all that time has took from them, while making sure everyone else is dragged down to their level of misery. They might even try to pull of some supervillain type gambits- trying to find immortality or freeze time itself to resist entropy. Either way, a Prince of Time, while seeming calm and philosophical, is probably just depressed and dealing with existential dread that may or may not manifest in unhealthy ways.
How’s that? My session didn’t actually have a Prince, but there was definitely one in my debate class before The Meteors. It’s their natural habitat really…that and the internet. There is no escaping them in the depths of forum arguments. Anyways, hope I helped! GG Out!

Hmm…that wasn’t an extremely long length. It’s probably where these things should be at! Only problem is that I didn’t really go over powers or anything? Hmm. Maybe I could request that when in the asks you want to include powers, personality analysis, or both. Powers would include Denizens and quests and stuff as well! Probably better than trying to squeeze a gameist and archetypal lens into one post. Much to think about!

FUUUUU7UCKK ROUXLS KAARD IS A PROSPIT PRINCE OF HEART
has a very specific idea of what his identity is and what it should mean (he absolutely must be the second in command to an evil tyrant)
sylph of mind inversion (or just mind ghosting) he will make people appreciate his mind boggling puzzles and machinations which he is not actually good at
controlling in relationships. and... well... he is a heartbreaker.
prospit because his arrogant prickishness has very little self reflection he just does shit and expects praise for it
