I’ve been seeing this image floating around social media and, I totes get the similarities, but…

Is anyone else bothered by this comparison? There is a drastically different context to what’s happening in the two pictures.

On the left, you have an example of America’s noted history of imposing modesty in order to protect white patriarchal control over white femininity.

On the right, you have state sanctioned religious persecution in the form of sexist paternalism and “we are forcibly protecting you from your horrible religion” but also “we are really protecting our precious French eyes from being reminded that your religion exists”. It is my understanding that these French officers were armed.
