Lilly and Ty Turnarounds
Some recent sketch turnarounds and a height chart/design guide for a film directed by my goodgood pal @evvee who is also doing the cleanup and color for these sheets. I'll probably be posting more design iteration and sketches and doodles and all that, and maybe some expression and hand charts. These were SOOOO fun to do, I love being able to design for characters I see myself in. It's very healing. I was very inspired by old photos of me and one of my childhood best friends from when we were like 14-16.
For those curious what I'm currently up to... Sorry for the long months without spookulele updates. I had to pause production for life reasons and financial issues I shan't be getting into now (or ever), but production shall be revving up again soon.

I am being so serious when I say: if you have the financial and time privilege to get a group of friends together and make an indie project, PLEASE do. Indie games, indie animations, indie comics etc etc
the art industries are kind of in the shitter. It’s not so much because of AI (though that doesn’t help) but because studios just aren’t hiring people and funding projects anymore. People who’ve been in the industry for decades are finding themselves struggling, and once you have a mortgage or kids it’s harder to do something as risky as making something on your own.
completing projects is hard. it takes a lot of time and effort, and most people can’t afford it. so if you CAN afford to make art, even at the risk of no financial gain, I strongly encourage you to be as resilient as you can. We’re at a point where these industries are not going to turn around by themselves, and waiting for jobs to open up again in order to get experience and portfolio work might not be realistic.
people have been making art and telling stories longgggg before we were getting paid for it, and people aren’t going to stop just because no one has hired them to do so.
for everyone else: support indie artists when you can!!!! That person who made that cool indie game or youtube animation or webcomic might be doing this full time! your support might be the only reason they’re able to keep doing it.

The Ukulele Song (ft. Sally Grey and Janet Klein)
This is a track I tossed together a few months back, and I'm pretty happy with it! It still needs some additional production (some stroh violin that I'm in talks with a musician about, maybe some mandolin and some extra editing to make it more crisp), but it's pretty close! This sort of serves as the main musical motif in the whole pilot, but it's not the only song I've written for the pilot. Hoping to post more updates soon! Keep your lil' eyeses peeled!

Foolin' around with expressions. I've been thinking an awful lot about where i pull my facial expression inspo from, especially for this project. I try to give all of my pitches and projects their own unique individual styles, especially in really small details like how i draw the mouths or hands. I think the expressions in Spookulele! some from a whole host of different stuff like Gravity Falls, Rankin and Bass, Loony Tunes and Tex Avery, Lupin the Third, and the Great Mouse Detective (and like, 60's to 80's era Disney in general). I mean, there's more than just that, but i think those are the ones that I've noticing most lately. I'm always noticing new things in my art. That thing they say about steal like an artist or whatever. I just like to keep close track of where I'm stealing from I guess. I'm thinking of putting together a huge document of all the shit that's influenced the project, I think it would be fun
