Author's Note: So sorry this is late! I got distracted by Tomodachi life and then I couldn't figure out how to end this fic. But I figured something out. I hope you enjoy my last fic for this year's event. It's been wonderful participating, I've really missed doing shipping events. Thank you so much to event runner, it's been fun!
So Sad, So Quiet
He was all too quiet.
Johan first noticed it amongst the battle with Darkness. It was only brief glimpses of course. Judai, ever the hero, wouldnβt let any emotion overcome his desire to protect. At least not for long. No matter what stories Shou told him of the time when Johan wasβ¦missing. Judai still ran head on into danger, metaphorical andβas of lateβliteral fists swinging, though now it was a little cooler, a little more collected, like he knew what he was doing. Or if he didnβt, he sure got good at faking it.
In times of peace, he was quiet. Sometimes Johan worried it was out of sadness. But then theyβd duel, and Judai would beam and boast, and they could grasp at remnants of a time where they were happier.
Maybe Judai had just grown up.
But as they sat in the small living room of Johanβs cabin, lights still off in the early morning hours, this quiet was definitely different. Even as dread pulled his own stomach taut, Johan could tell. He had only seen that look in his eye once before. The first time he saw him afterβ¦everything.
βYou knowβ¦β Johan began, βI can likeβ¦go. Itβs like an anniversary in a way, right? I mean it did kind of sound like a wedding when Shou described it. I wouldnβt want toββ
βStay,β Judai curtly replied.
βJudai.β
Judaiβs gaze remained fixed on the outside beyond the window, eyes lazily following the whirl of snowflakes in the dull morning light. He at least had finally leaned back on the couch, yet his limbs remained stiff and his grip tight on his mug of hot chocolate. βIt isnβt easy for you either, right?β
Johan shook his head. βThat doesnβt matter.β
βIt does to me.β The corner of his mouth twitched, almost into a frown. βUnlessβ¦You donβt want meβ¦β
βIt would be harder alone.β
βBut you have your family.β
βI love them, and I get it, but Iβd rather not fester in their anger.β
βYou have every right to be angry.β
Johan shrugged with a noncommittal hum. βWho said I wasnβt? But not at you.β
βWeβreββ
βOne now. So you keep saying. But it wasnβt Yubel who saved me now was it?β Bitterness grit between his teeth. He hated it, but he couldnβt help it. He took a breath, letting it push out the tension in his jaw. βYouβre still the boy who saved me that day. Nothing can change that.β
βJohanββ
βAnger always made me feel sick anyway.β
Amethyst Cat said it was because he never let himself feel it properly, but Johan never believed it. He tried. Even now. And he did feel that hotness briefly bubble through his blood whenever he thought of Yubel. What they did to him. What they did to the Crystal Beasts, to Judai. But then heβd think some more. About the images that flashed when Yubel first invaded him. The pain that seared into his nerves. Some of it from a memory long ago, some of it within that present. All they knew was suffering, and he couldnβt help the sympathy that would flood him and wash out the heat.
βLetβs just let it go for now,β Johan sighed after a moment.
βWe need to talk about it at some point.β
Johan placed his now empty mug to the side. βBut not today. Itβs too raw today.β
The ghost of a protest that began tumbling out of Judai died on his tongue when Johan yanked him close. He fell easily against his chest.
βIs this okay?β Johan whispered.
Judai remained stiff yet he nodded. Perhaps concerningly quick. Johan could imagine the wide-eyed look on his friendβs face and couldnβt help but huff in amusement.
βIsβ¦Is this okay for you?β Judai asked meekly.
Johan outright laughed then, tugging Judai further until he was seated on his lap. βIf I wasnβt, I wouldnβt have put you here in the first place.β
βYouβre being rather forward for once,β Judai pouted.
βYou're just actually reading it properly for once.β
βIβ¦I donβt want you doing this just for my sake. Because Iβm being pathetic and pitiful andββ\
Johan raised his fingers to Judaiβs lips. Heβd rather have kissed him, but like he said, wounds were left raw today and Yubel hung heavier over them despite how they settled down. Despite how deep they buried themself into Judai to avoid Johan feeling their presence.
βI missed you.β
Johan felt the lips under his fingertips twitch, almost into a smile. βItβs only been a month,β Judai murmured.
βStill too long.β
Judai bit his lip, tearing away from Johanβs gaze. βYou know Iββ
βI know, I know. Weβre both doing our important adult stuff. Iβm just teasing.β Johanβs hand slipped from Judaiβs lips to his chin, twisting his face back towards him. βThoughβ¦Itβs true. I still missed you.β
βYouβd miss me if I was gone for a day,β Judai snorted, an ember of a familiar glow in his eyes
βThere you are.β He took Judaiβs face into his hands. βAnd youβre right. I would.β
Judai fell silent once more. It wasnβt as thick as before, but Johan could see in his lover's eyes how thoughts swirled in his mind. βIβ¦I missed you too. I missed this.β He pressed his forehead against Johanβs.
βGood.β Johan let his eyes flutter shut, taking in Judaiβs warmth, his earthy scent from nearly two years as a wanderer. βIβ¦A year ago I worried that maybeβ¦Maybe youβ¦Maybe I brought up bad memories and thatβs why you kept your distance for so long.β
βI was scared.β
βScared?β
βI told you, Iβm not who I once was. And thatβs without even including Yubel.β
Johan ignored the ice that prickled along his spine. βI know.β
βEven now I still donβt understand how you can still look at me the way you do.β
βWhat way?β Johan asked, eyes cracking open slightly. Like he didnβt already know. Like they hadnβt had this conversation before.
βLike Iβm still something good.β
Okay, that was a little different. More direct than Judai had ever been. βJudaiββ
βIβm sorryβ¦Iβve gotten good at letting the guilt come and go but todayβ¦β Judai gripped at his hair, squeezing his eyes shut. βIt just wonβt leave.β
Johanβs heart clenched almost painfully. He swallowed down his own guilt, the swirling thoughts of what if. As much as it was Yubel who orchestrated everything and held most of the blame for what happened over two years ago, Johan willingly offered himself up as the sacrificial lamb. It was ultimately the belief of his death that pushed Judai off the deep end. He knew he shouldnβt blame himself, especially as he constantly begged Judai not to blame himself either. But they always mirrored each other, so it only made sense that their guilt would too, unfoundedness and all.
He squeezed Judai tighter, pressing even closer, like he could curl up in him alongside Yubel. βNo more talking then. Just keep your eyes closed and let me keep holding you.β He took a shaky breath, arms loosening in hesitancy. βUnless that will make it worse.β
Judai gripped at his retreating arm. Johan couldnβt help but smile. Just a little. For a while, they just sat like that, until Judai started to relax, his body sinking more into a laying position, head propped up on Johanβs shoulder. He kept hold on Johanβs arm, but it was looser now.
βBetter?β Johan whispered, planting a light kiss on Judaiβs forehead.
βBetter.β
βYou may be different in many ways. You may have done someβ¦unforgivable things. And you may be sadder sometimes. Quieter. But under it all, youβre still the person I fell in love with.β
A light blush dusted Judaiβs cheeks.
βAnd the Judai I know always makes a comeback when it matters most.β
βDoβ¦Do you really think I can come back from this?β
βYou donβt?β
βHow can you come back from something like that?β
Johan pressed his lips together. What could be said? It wasnβt right to forget it and move on. But Judai would lose himself once more if he wallowed in it.
βWell, you let us in more. Thatβs one major thing. And youβre making a difference asβ¦what would you call it? A spirit counselor?β
βYes, butβ¦β
βItβs only been two years. You donβt get over something like this in two years.β
Judai laughed lightly. βYou know? Yubel says the same thing.β
Johan went rigid until Judai started rubbing small circles into his arm, a wordless apology. βThank you,β he continued softly. βFor everything. I wouldnβt be doing what Iβm doing without you. I probably wouldnβt even be here if it wasnβt for you.β
βJudai.β
Judaiβs eyes drifted close again. βWhat? Itβs true.β
βYouβre not thinking ofβ¦β
βNo. I havenβt spiraled that far. Again, thanks to you.β
Johan ignored the heat spreading across his face. Hopefully the lights were low enough that Judai wouldnβt notice. βWell, I canβt take all the credit,β he waved off, βJim and OβBrien were pretty important too, right?β
βYeahβ¦I need to get around to checking in with them too.β
βThereβs always tomorrow.β Johan pressed a light kiss to his temple. βBut for now. I want to keep you all to myself. If a certain someone will let me.β
Judai snorted. βWell, I was kind of counting on you for a bed tonight soβ¦β
βYou know itβs always open.β
Judai lulled into a quiet again, less heavy this time. If it wasnβt for his slightly opened eyes, Johan would have assumed he was asleep.
βItβs still rather early,β Johan commented, fingers trailing lightly up Judaiβs thigh. βWe could go back to sleep for a bit.β
βI donβt think I can really sleep right now.β
βThen how about we just lay down for a little bit. Cuddle or something.β
Judaiβs brows creased, as if he was about to make a very important decision. Johan bit back another laugh.
βThat does sound nice.β
βThen itβs settled,β Johan declared. He snuck an arm under Judaiβs leg and scooped him up, ignoring how little it took to do so. Judai immediately clung to him, eyes a little wide, but he could already see the beginnings of a smile.
There would be plenty of time for words at some point. Many things still left unsaid even two years later. But for now, Johan would hold him in the quiet, a promise he would never have to sit in it alone. Be that in joy or sadness.
Paradox is dealt with, Jesseβs safe and back at Jadenβs side, the two are back home.
Everything is as it should be.
The first night after the mess Paradox made, the two are making themselves ready for bed. Jesse found a nice resort close to the city, saying it has good reviews.
But Jadenβs mind was preoccupied.
He laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
Why canβt things just settle down for once? Thereβs always something going on. And Jesse getting caught up in the danger, Jaden feels like a failure to him and the Crystal Beasts.
He snapped back to reality when he feels a hand on his face. He looks over at Jesseβs worried expression on the other side of the bed.
βMore flashbacks?β he whispers, his finger moving along Jadenβs cheek.
βNot necessarily.β he mumbles. βJustβ¦thinking.β
βAbout?β
βHow I failed you.β
Jesse leans up, βFailed me how Jay?β
βFor starters, I left without saying anything to you. Also, I couldnβt protect you from Paradox and he hurt you and your family.β
Jesse shakes his head, leaning in for a gentle kiss. βYou didnβt fail me Jaden. Your path was blocked and he took advantage of that. And you, Yugi and Yusei saved me in the end. Donβt beat yourself up, okay?β
Jaden wasnβt convinced, wincing as he heard Jesseβs screams in his head. Seeing him take the blunt of all their monsters attacks.
He was surprised when Jesse smashed their lips together, climbing on top of him. Jaden moans softly, reaching to hold onto Jesseβs shoulders.
βJaden, youβre not a failure. Far from it.β Jesse whispers before resuming kissing him. βI will show it to you. Show you how much you mean to me.β
Jaden pants as he watches Yusuke sink to his knees. He sees a skeleton-looking demon emerge and whisk the teen away in a dark energy. It tries taking Jesse the same way, but Jadenβs able to block it thanks to Yubel and Haou. The demon then retreats to the top of the school.
The final duel is upon him.
Jaden looks at Jesse, βYou okay?β
βYeah.β he breathes with a nod. βThat duel was intense.β
βIt was.β
βWhat was that thing that controlled Yusuke?β
βNot sure, but Iβm gonna find out.β
Jaden starts heading for the school, but Jesse grabs his wrist to stop him. βWEβLL find out.β he corrects with a grin.
βJesse..β
βYouβre not doing this alone Jay. Iβm gonna help ya.β
Jaden was about to counter that itβs dangerous, but knows itβs not worth arguing. Jesse is a capable duelist. Heβll be okay.
Only..
He turns around, looking Jesse in the eyes and holding his hands tightly. βJustβ¦promise me something Jes.β
His voice is barely above a whisper, Jesse knows itβs something serious.
βWhat is it?β
ββ¦Donβt sacrifice yourself. Please Jesse. I canβt bear to lose you again.β
Jesse watches the sadness coming up in Jaden with those words, the memory of when he used Rainbow Dragon to get everyone home and he stayed behind.
He squeezes Jadenβs hands in reassurance. βI promise.β

He was laying on the roof of the school, watching the clouds roll by.
A tag team tournament was coming up that Blair was organizing and he feels pressured by his friends to sign up. Even when they tried to pair him with Alexis, he declined and walked away.
The idea of participating bothered him. He canβt pinpoint what exactly that is, but it just immensely bothered him.
Maybe itβs because his friends are acting like the Dark World never happened and see him as he was the past three years? As if their words didnβt cause his heart to break and all those events changed how he sees the world.
He really doesnβt want any part of things if theyβre involved.
Then, their words start echoing in his head. He shuts his eyes real tight and winces. He could barely hear Winged Kuriboh cooing, barely hear someone joining him until he feels that someone holding his hands tightly.
βJay! Itβs okay! Youβre safe! Open your eyes please!β
That southern drawl.
His eyes bust open, panting heavily as he focuses on Jesse next to him.
βWhat happened?β
ββ¦Flashbacks.β he manages.
Jesse frowns, laying down and tightening his grip. Their hands joined between them. βIβm so sorry you went through so much.β
βItβs not your fault Jes. I justβ¦maybe I was impulsive. But I had to find you. I had toβ¦β
Jesse blushes, βIβm here because of you Jay. Thank you.β
βIβ¦I just canβt face them..β
βItβs hard I sense. You feel they betrayed you.β
βThey sort of did. They blamed me for everything and now are acting like that all never happened. Itβs so hard being around them and acting like everything is cool. Itβs not.β
Jesse studies him, letting go of one hand and bringing Jadenβs with the other, resting his knuckles against Jesseβs cheek.
βThatβs a conversation you need to have with them. Make sure they know how they treated and hurt you.β Jim, Axel and I can be there for support.β
βYou would do that?β
βOf course!β he beams.
Jaden smiles, βThank you, Jesse. Where would I be without you?β
Jesse laughs, kissing the back of Jadenβs hand before letting go. βSo, that tag tournament. You donβt want to do it huh?β
βWere you?β
βYeah, I was gonna participate. Not sure on a partner though. Maybe I can ask Jim since Axelβs in Domino City for something.β

Author's Note: Sorry for the delay! I got distracted by Tomdachi Life lol!
Darling Can't You Hear Me?
The sun dripping between plush green leaves first came into focus. A little blurry to begin with, but with enough blinking, it cleared right up. Then the wind followed, tangling in his hair. Johan grimaced. He could see the strands moving and yetβ¦
βWhatβs with that face?β Judai laughed. Light and airy. Head using Johanβs lap as a pillow. Brown eyes turning into a mixture of gold and amber in the light. Johanβs brows furrowed. What was he thinking about again?Β
Judai just smiled. βItβs a nice day isnβt it. AndΒ IΒ found us the perfect spot.βΒ
βIt is.β
βSee what you can do when you skip?β
Johan rolled his eyes, hand instinctively curling in Judaiβs hair, scratching against his scalp. Johan frowned slightly. The strands werenβt as soft as he imagined. His grip tightened. They didnβt feel like anything.Β
Judai suddenly sprung up with an βouchβ. βWhat is with you today?β he groaned, rubbing where Johan pulled. βYou keep spacing out on me.β
Dread frosted over his insides. He clutched at the blades of grass. Nothing. No tickle, no smoothness. Was the grass always this blindingly green?
Right. The wind. He was thinking about the wind. He couldnβt feel it brush against his cheeks even as it whipped lightly at their hair.Β
βHey, hey, itβs okay,β Judai murmured. He crawled onto his lap, wrapping his arms around Johan and pulling him close. Finally, something solid. Not warm like he expected, like he dreamed of, but solid. Something he could dig his fingers into. His shallow breaths evened out as he clung onto Judai, burying his face in the crook of his neck.
βSomethingβs wrong,β he muttered quickly. βI-I donβt know what butβ¦β
Judai peeled Johanβs hands off him, pulling back until they faced each other once more. He reached out to cradle Johanβs face. βWhat are you talking about?β he chuckled. βAre you worried about getting in trouble? Because Iβve been skipping regularly since first year and Iβm fine. One little skip out day with your dueling prowess and good grades, youβll be more than fine.β
How easy it would have been to just lean into that touch. Sure, it wasnβt warm or cold, or anything. But it was solid. And it was Judai. And he had always wished for something like this. Yet it did nothing to stop the panic bubbling in his gut.
βItβs not that, Judai. Donβt you noticeββ
But he was silenced with a kiss. Johanβs eyes widened, and instinctively he tried to jerk away. Judai didnβt let him get far, still gripping his wrists. He pressed against him harder, lips hungrier. Yet cold. Everything was so cold suddenly. Even as the sunβs rays continued to trickle down.Β
βJohan!β The voice was muffled, but definitely feminine. Familiar. βSay something! Youβre in there arenβt you?β
Johan began thrashing, eventually shoving Judai off of him. He was left panting against the tree trunk.
βJohan!β another familiar voice shouted.
Judai just stares at him, expression blank. Not even flush dotting his cheeks. A chill ran up Johanβs spine.Β
The voices began to merge, all familiar, until he was pulled under into a deep darkness. His muscles trembled despite the lead-like feeling starting to encase them. At some point his eyes fell shut, but he didnβt remember closing them. His fingers twitched, feeling something cold, something smooth, something solid below him. Like a crystal?
He winced, trying to force his eyes back open. βSomeoneβsβ¦calling meβ¦β he whispered to himself. He needed to open his eyes for them. Even just a crack.Β
He was met with a cavern-like sight, greenish blue gems jutting out of the walls, providing a dim light. Panic jumped from his stomach all the way to his throat. But an even brighter light cut through it all.Β
βIsnβt thatβ¦β From that light familiar figures came into view. βThe others.β Sapphire Pegasus, Amethyst Cat, Emerald Turtle, Cobalt Eagle, Amber Mammoth, Topaz Tiger, and of course little Ruby Carbuncle all accounted for. And amongst themβ¦Johanβs heart pounded out the rest of his panic. βJudai! Iβm right here! Judai!β
βJohan!β Judai called back.
Johanβs knee jerked, ready to leap out to them, but he nearly stumbled into an abyss, trapped on one of those greenish blue gems. He violently shook his head. No. This couldnβt be happening. The picture of his family and Judai blurred in the crystal window. He needed to be there for him. He promised. The voices grew muffled.
He could make out Judai hesitating, staring at a card in his hand. The sickening feeling that had been growing curdled into a pit in his stomach. He shook his head. No. He couldnβt sink into despair. Judai would save him. And Johan would take him into his arms and never let go again. Tell him everything would be okay.Β
A blinding light emanating Warmth flooded the space, seeping into his heavy limbs. There was a tug and he stumbled forward. Yet he knew he was safe, knew everything would be okay. Knew Judai was waiting for him.Β Β
βJudai!β
βJohan!β
Then everything was sore again. And dark. The air carried a chill, but nothing like the cavern. He forced his eyes open, just a crack. Judai stood across from him. βJuβ¦daiβ¦β He lifted a trembling hand, seeking that warmth of his friend once more.Β
There was that hesitancy again, in Judaiβs shaky legs.
βJohan!β he shouted instead. βAre you alright?β
βJudaiβ¦β Well, if Judai wouldnβt come to him, heβd just have to go to Judai. His arms shook as he tried to raise his body off the ground. βSoβ¦You saved me?β
Judai skidded a few steps, only for a piercing cackle to freeze him in place once more. That sickening feeling reared its ugly head. Static sparking at the back of his skull, zipping to his ears. He knew that laugh. It had rattled in his skull over and over alongside memories of blood, of screams and of a boy who looked just likeβ¦
βJohan!β Judai cried. The wind was knocked out of him as Judai crashed into him, pushing him out of the way of some blast. Johan might have blacked out again. Next thing he knew, his cheek was against Judaiβs chest, Judaiβs arms squeezing him tightly, a heart hammering in his ear (his or Judaiβs he couldnβt tell).Β
βNow thenβ¦β Yubel smirked. βAre you ready, Judai?β
Judaiβs grip grew even tighter. βJohan, Iβm sorry.β
βWhat are you sorry for?β Johan tried to suppress a grimace. Oh, how he wanted to reach out and caress his friendβs cheek, brush away the pain in his eyes. But for now, he could only offer him a smile. βYouβreΒ the one who savedΒ me.β
βThat thing was the one behind all of the setbacks that happened to usβ¦But still,Β IΒ was the one who started it allβ¦β
Johan shook his head weakly. He wouldnβt believe it. Not the boy with the hero deck who saved the world twice. And would do so a third time. But before he could give a proper protest, Judai turned away. Johan followed him to find Professor Chronos and Sho standing there, Ojama Yellow hovering beside. So many questions crowded Johanβs mind.Β
Professor Chronos nervously stepped forward. βSignor Judai.β
βTake care of him.β
βWhat are you planning to do?β
Judai looked over at him again, eyes hardening with determination, yet that earlier hesitancy still lingered. Their fight wasnβt over yet.Β
βStop throwing my friends into all of this,β Judai growled, rising to his feet. βThis whole thing is betweenΒ youΒ andΒ me.β
Johanβs vision fuzzed around the edges as Chronos came beside him, seating him upright. Johan blinked rapidly. Now wasnβt the time to slip away again. If he couldnβt duel, he could at least cheer for Judai. Reassure him he wasnβt alone. That he trusted everything would be alright. But of course, Yubel would have other plans. His attention finally perked up enough at βinterference-free field.β
βJudai, wait a sec. Donβt tell me youβreββ
Judai smiled down at him tightly. βYep. You canβt stop me.β
Johanβs chest squeezed until he couldnβt breath. Judai, hero of the world once again, his allies powerless to do anything. Johan powerless toβ
βRubi?β It was a small little coo, but Johan heard it. He pulled out his deck, extending it to his friend.Β
βIβd fight with you if I could, but in the shape Iβm inβ¦At least take my deck with you, Judai.β
βAlright.β Judai knelt back down, carefully taking the pile of cards. βIβll battle with your deck.β
As their fingers brushed against each other, Johanβs thoughts drifted back to that dream. Even with death hanging over them, he couldnβt stop himself from staring and Judaiβs lips. Would they be warm too? Like it was in his arms. If there was a chance this was the end, maybe it wouldnβt be so bad to finally give in. While he was real and warm and here.
He swallowed thickly. No. That would be selfish. So instead, he watched as Judai floated up, the weight of the world on his shoulders once more.

Not sure if it fits the theme, but itβs the only thing I can think of lol
Jaden has changed so much since returning to the academy. Jesse couldnβt believe how drastic the change was.
He went from a happy go lucky kid who dueled for fun and went on instinct; to a kid whoβs always on guard and duels like his life is on the line.
When he appeared in the infirmary that night, Jesse had to do a double take. Embracing him felt so right, but he could see the hesitation in Jaden when asked to stay. Only when Jesse begged that he smiled and agreed, climbing into the bed and laying next to him.
Jesse notices the distance Jadenβs giving to the rest of their friends save for Jim and Axel and himself. Seems they are the only people he fully trusts now. He got the short story from everyone when they visited him about the journey, but whatβs Jadenβs version of the events?
One day as heβs trying to walk around, not wanting to stay in the bed forever, he finds Jaden fishing behind the Slifer dorm.
βHey Jaden!β he calls.
Jaden turns his head, a look of happiness and concern is shown in his eyes. βWhat are you doing out of bed?β he questions as he helps Jesse sit next to him.
βIβm tired of just laying there. I feel useless.β
βYou had your soul removed, itβs gonna take time for your body to readjust.β
βI guess, but still. I gotta do something.β
Jaden chuckles, but it soon falters. βJes, Iβm sorry. For everything that has happened to you.β
βDonβt worry about it Jay, everything is okay now.β he beams.
βSoβ¦youβre not angry with me for fusing with Yubel? The duel spirit that hurt you and your family.β
Jesse shakes his head, βMaybe initially, but not anymore. I understand that you did it to heal Yubel. I canβt fault you for that.β
Jaden sighed, placing a hand over Jesseβs as his gaze returned to the ocean. Jesse followed and they sat in silence for a while.
Jesse soon asked what was on his mind. βCan I ask something from the Dark World?β
Jaden froze for a moment before composing himself. βI thought everyone filled you in on those events.β
βThey did, but I want to hear YOUR version.β
Jaden pulls the fishing rod up, giving his full attention to Jesse. βWhat exactly do you want to know?β
ββ¦The duel with Brron.β
Jaden shuts his eyes, wincing slightly for the intense memories that flooded his mind. Jesse takes Jadenβs hands in his.
βIβm sorry, you donβt have to share if itβs brings bad memories for you.β
βNo, itβs okay. I shouldnβt bottle them up anyway.β He takes a breath before continuing, βI was told to wait for Jim and Axel to come back with the others, butβ¦I had to make sure you were in that fortress. Brron toyed with the idea you had already dueled and lost, and would only give me the answer if I dueled him. He then reveals he captured Chazz, Alexis, Atticus and Hassleberry, wanting to use them to create Super Polymerization. Any time he lost points, one of them would be sent away. I tried so hard to get around that, thinking if I could deck him out, everything would be okay. But he played cards that forced me to attack. And my friends, they justβ¦got so angry with me. I did try to save them, I really did!β His voice is cracking now. βThey acted like I let them get sent away on purpose! There was nothing I could do once he activated those spells!β
Jesse pulls him into his arms. βIs that why youβre keeping your distance from them and Syrus?β
Jaden nods, βI canβt look at them in the eye and believe everything is okay. Their words hurt, I still hear them.β
Jesse holds him tighter, wondering if they know how bad they scarred Jaden.
