Mastery Gone Wrong [CA Open]
This was all a big misunderstanding, Milla knew. It had started when a group of men approached her and asked her how much she charged per hour. When Milla answered that she didn't charge anything, they all seemed to be very pleased. One of them started to list places they could go, but none of them seemed very interesting to Milla. Another began to list thing he wanted to do to her, and it was a rather crude list. The woman shook her head and told them she wasn't interested. When one of them pointed out she was standing on a street corner dressed like that, Milla was sure there was some sort of meaning that had gone over her head. These future times could be confusing.
A few things had happened interim, but Milla and her new followers were now in a one-way alley. She'd been looking for a way to escape the irritating jeers without making a scene, but now her hand had been forced. Taunts had turned into threats, and the group of men thought they had her cornered. They were quite wrong.
She had only meant it to be a simple display of her elemental mastery, a show to scare them off. But there was something in the alleyway, perhaps a pile of oily rags or a half-empty can of gasoline, but whatever it was, it didn't react well to Milla's fireball spell. The resulting explosion could be heard from several blocks away.
For a while, no one came out. But eventually, a woman emerged, scorched and bleeding from the backfiring spell. Clutching at her midsection, she stepped out onto the sidewalk, turning her head to meet the gaze of someone who had rushed to the scene.
"That didn't... quite go as planned..." she mumbled.
Without another word, Milla closed her eyes and collapsed, bleeding onto the sidewalk.
