I did a little oneshot(?) For my brother. Him and me have been wanting to play dnd but he wanted to use the character he made for our main campaign.
So I did a dream sequence with the random terrain pieces he gave me and I had his character wake up in a seemingly sealed room. He picked a letter and I had him roll a dice. From there he got to fight against two wererats (his choice from the lycanthrope list)
He fought them and to get past their resistance to everything besides silver I "enchanted" his sword to change to change the material or damage to get past resistances. (He's a fighter)
It was fun and got that DnD itch out of me.

A fun thing I've noticed when creating my characters is that they always involve love of some sort and how it's shaped them. This is especially evident in characters I made when playing as player. (Shhh... we dont talk about my crazy pryomaniac tabaxi... She was just crazy)
This love ranges from romantic, to platonic, to familial, and all sorts of love. The love of creation, of power, of just generally so much.
I love character creation. I love creating them and their tiny stories. I love them so much. I love them. I imagine their little hands holding mine. Looking up at me innocently, asking 'what will I be?'
And I tell them. You will be loved. You will be hurt. You will be kind. You will be angry. You will be alive, because that is what you are. Alive, born from idle thoughts and precious time.
And no matter what. I will love my little creations. From the stupidest ideas to the most complex, they will glimmer in my mind forever.
I love being a DM. What do you mean I get to have my friends and family go on silly little adventures to meet my traumatized characters?
I get to have my dad be stuck between being employed by a divorced Drow and Duergar with crazy tension in the deep dark???
My mom gets to play as a RAT BARBARIAN that looks like MINNIE MOUSE FROM DISNEY?? HUH???
I get to make little plays for them and they get to watch and interact with the little stages I've made for us to create wondrous worlds we all enjoy. It makes me so happy :)
